  • Episode 811 – How To Exceed Expectations? Find Someone Who Cares!

When it comes to exceeding expectations, you have to first set them, then exceed them. If you set expectations too high, you can often disappoint. If you set them too low, people tend to misinterpret them. Finding that middle ground, and exceeding expectations require someone who believes in your capabilities, and is overjoyed with the results.

So how can we use these examples to help us exceed expectations with our businesses and our customers?

    • Set Realistic Deadlines – It’s easier to underpromise and overdeliver than it is to make excuses and soothe frayed nerves.
    • Over Communicate – Regular updates (even scheduled ones) help manage expectations.
    • Deliver Quality – IF you are more worried about the check than the results, you will miss the Mark!
    • “Surround yourself with the best people and then get out of their way. Give them a chance to exceed your expectations and they usually will.”
      — Anne Sweeney

    • Episode 809 – It Pays to Follow The Instructions and Sometimes You Have To Write Your Own

It’s been over 22 years since we built and bought our last home. Over that time, technology was whizzing along while our home and appliances lived in the early years of the 20th century. This was pre… Amazon, Google, Facebook, iPhone and so much more.

Change is hard and wonderful at the same time. There is so much new to learn and discover, but it can be irritating to try to get your coffee warmed up without consulting a book. You have to be patient and just slog through it. One appliance, function, and manual at a time.

I have talked about assembling furniture for my office. Some of the instructions had text so small, that I had to take pictures with my cell phone camera and blow them up to read what it was telling me to do. Others had a page-by-page, step-by-step system that included numbered bags of parts needed for each phase of the construction. I had to deal with a mix of manufacturers and their instruction manuals.

When it comes to your business, do you have instructions that you give your customers or clients? I am rethinking how I disburse instructions to them. How can I make what I do repetitively, be more like that office furniture that had the step-by-step pictures and parts in a corresponding numbered pack?

In this episode, I discuss how you can help your customers by creating instructions to tasks you have them do and hopefully ones that make it an easy step-by-step approach!

    • Episode 807 – You Get What You Pay For… Some Assembly Required

There are many benefits to creating and maintaining a virtual workforce. There is also one big drawback. You have no one in your office to help you carry and assemble office furniture.

No matter how small the piece of furniture, accessory, or even wall hanging, you have to follow the directions and allocate the time to do it right, and/or correct the mistakes along the way.

I have to admit I was jealous that the home furniture was delivered whole, assembled, and moved into place by a crew. My office furniture had to be assembled. Granted, the TV stand cost as much as all the desks and additional storage (four pieces). But it took 10 minutes to install and another hour to get the tech working. The office took over 20 hours just to get ready to start getting the technology in place and working.

In your business, are you doing it all yourself to save money, or because that is all you can get delivered? Sometimes, it is worth more to have the done-for-you service. This will give you more time to focus on yourself and your business. Too often we look for a cost-effective solution, but the cheap comes out expensive (especially with time). PLUS… just put one nail or screw in wrong, and that low-cost option shows it’s just pressed board, with fake wood laminate.

In this episode, I how you need to weigh the cost of goods and services versus the cost of your time!!

    • Episode 805 – Success Is Personal and How To String Together Little Wins

I have been told that people who have almost died have a new perspective on life. Once you almost lose your life, you stop taking life (especially getting up each day) for granted.

I begin each new day with a routine. I post a positive quote (Called ‘Deep Bacon Thoughts )’ on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It’s my way of sharing my appreciation with my friends and followers for being there for me. It encourages me as well.

The other day I posted a quote that said “No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch.” It’s all about stringing together a series of wins… one step at a time!

So how are you stinging together wins in your life and business? Just remember… “No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch.” That starts by putting one foot in front of the other to keep moving forward. Even if you hit a bump in the road (or Greenway) that causes you to take one step forward and two steps back, keep trying to string together those wins! It’s the line that powers your life, business, and lights up all the world to see!

“Imagination has a great deal to do with winning.”
      – Mike Krzyzewski

In this episode, I hope to inspire you with a string of wins. It’s all about putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward!

    • Episode 803 – If You Want Change, Results or Success, You Have To Take Your Own Pulse and Own It!

I was a control freak, and would normally work 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week to do it all myself. I was successful at it, but at a cost. That cost was having a life.

As I walked Layla (my dog) and ran on the Greenway by our apartment in North Carolina, I saw this one red straw sitting on the pavement, day after day after day! Surely it had to bother them as much as it did for me? But alas, it just sat there for almost four weeks.

The bottom line is that if you want a change, you have to take personal responsibility for the activity, decision, and process.

When it came to my control freak ways, I thought people would respect my work ethic and results, but in the end, It really did not matter what others thought. I was holding myself back and it took an outsider (my coach) to get my life back in sync and shock me into reality and rhythm again.

Now I can see that we all need a device (like my Apple Watch) that tells you when you have an issue and to take personal responsibility.

“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.”
      – John Lennon

In this episode, I will discuss how life events can help teach you how to become more successful, but sometimes, you need a little outside perspective.
