If you haven’t heard of Strange Wilderness, fear not. You’re in good company. The stupidest, funniest stoner comedy of the modern age comes at the expense of being entirely swept under the rug of Hollywood. Granted, it was likely for good reason. Strange Wilderness is...strange to say the least. What other movie features a man being so stoned that when he sees a snake he exclaims, “oh shit a porcupine”? Sure, this movie may not be for you. And if that’s the case, my guest and I have you covered with a thorough plot description that will either make you laugh or vomit. Despite that outright insanity of this movie, I always find myself coming back to it. And that’s ok. Because we all deserve our guilty pleasures. Oh what could have been. After Batman V Superman broke my poor little nerd heart, hope came along with a beautiful trailer for Suicide Squad to try to mend it back together. But it became apparent all too soon that the DCEU just wanted to make me cry. This is the film that I would show in a masterclass to demonstrate the repercussions of studio interference. And while I still think David Ayer is a talented individual, it’s unfortunate that this movie will forever stain his resume. Oh what could have been. I feel like I’ve lied to a lot of people in my life when they asked if I had ever seen Legally Blonde before. It’s one of those movies that you’re likely embarrassed to have not seen because it is so culturally iconic. Yet you’re also embarrassed if you have seen it because you infer that it says something about you as a person if you enjoy it. So yea, I’ve given a lot of people that guilty nod when they’ve asked because it’s easier than saying I haven’t seen Legally Blonde before reviewing it for this podcast. But what else is this podcast for if not examining movies that I’ve missed? To my pleasant surprise, Legally Blonde is objectively solid. Sure, it’s not exactly the pinnacle of filmmaking or drama. But it’s bolstered by a delightful, satirical performance that elevates the already charming material. There’s a reason Reese Witherspoon is a household name. And ok, not all of it ages super great. But Legally Blonde is worth your time even if you’re hesitant, and I think this episode does a fine job of explaining why. Featuring Special Guest Star Katie ‘Elle Woods’ Balen!

As a diehard Ben Affleck fan (don’t ask why, it’s just something I live with), I’ve put off watching Gigli for as long as I could. I vaguely recall seeing it while younger, but mercifully it left my mind. Until the fateful day when I decided it was time to face my fears. And wow, were those fears valid. Gigli is a completely misguided attempt at a Hollywood movie. Is it impossible to watch? No. But it is a challenge undoubtedly.  I mean, this movie actually made Martin Brest quit film. I don’t even know what he’s doing now. Hopefully living a peaceful life watching over the tragic Hollywood that bastardized Gigli. Gigli is not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but it is damn near close. And as sad as I am to critique it so aggressively, I must admit it does make for a very fine episode. And I still love Ben Affleck, no matter his slip ups. Featuring Special Guest Star Grant ‘Gopher’ Crawford!

Live Action so nice they made it twice. Who would have foreseen a sequel to the 2002 classic coming to fruition, and with a nearly identical team?! Blessed am I to say that this is likely the cap off for our Scooby Doo series on this podcast (for now). And what a way to go out! They covered toxic masculinity, buffoonery, and Shaggy got buff! It’s not exactly what you may have pictured for this franchise, but hey neither was Spooky Island and the grossly inappropriate Scrappy Doo. All things considered, this was a fun time. And as a result this episode is one of my personal favorites. Be sure to tune in to catch the halfway mark where we had a bit of a technical surprise! If Revenge of the Fallen was the earthquake, Dark of The Moon is the aftershock. Somehow forgotten in the sea of conversation regarding Transformers, the third installment actually features the densest plot in the franchise to date. You thought blowing up the sun was a venture from straight out of left field? Wait until you see Ken Jeong and John Malkovich in this movie. This movie actually broke us. It felt like an eternity to talk through the entire plot, and after we were done with the episode, we each felt like we needed a cigarette. Dark of the Moon is exhausting in the sheer volume of spectacle it wraps in its convoluted plot. And like the previous two installments, it still has entertaining, well designed sequences, but we’re 3 movies in and NOTHING HAS CHANGED! The same highlights and the same bizarre qualities. Dark of the Moon isn’t great, but it’s made worse by the fact that it essentially shows the studio’s lack of regard for the franchise. The same formula recycled once again to highlight the action and leave the rest to be sorted out by whoever cares enough. The reason I say it’s an aftershock is because while it may not be as befuddling as its predecessor, it caused more damage to this reviewing team than it should have. So if you wanna hear the same 3 broken guys from the last Transformers movie cry about this one, please take a listen. Justice League is a movie I was ECSTATIC for...in 2012. As a young DC fanboy, this is the picture I always wanted on the big screen. But as entries in the DCEU began to trickle out, I became less and less enthralled with seeing my favorite superheroes on the big screen. Man of Steel wasn’t quite what I wanted, but it laid groundwork. Ben Affleck is my soulmate (my irrational obsession is still strong), but Batman V Superman couldn’t convincingly integrate him into that universe. Justice League was really where all Hope was lost though. And it devastates me to say, but this is an irredeemable picture. Critically, it’s not the worst movie I’ve ever seen. But personally, this one hurts the most. If you listen to this episode, don’t be fearful about us waxing on about conspiracy theories (Whedon was hired by Marvel and sabotaged DC, sure dude), but bare in mind these are two frustrated fanboys struggling to stay objective. Vin Diesel is probably my favorite personality in Hollywood. Not because he’s the lead in a multimillion dollar franchise, or because he was in freaking Saving Private Ryan, or because his last name is Diesel and the tone of his voice actually warrants that. It’s because he’s goddamn Riddick. I’ve grown up with Riddick. Played the video games, watched the movies, and championed the badass that sees purple. Riddick was always just the epitome of cool when I was a kid. I mean he wears welding goggles and can dislocate his shoulders to escape captivity. The guy is just downright dope. So it’s kind of disappointing that the pivotal film in this franchise, The Chronicles of Riddick, was so menial. As a fan, this film is not what I want for this franchise. And we go to great lengths to describe exactly why. So please give this a listen and watch Pitch Black because that movie is epic.

"I’m going to steal the Declaration of Independence" absolutely belongs in the ‘Iconic Lines of Cinema Hall of Fame’. Regardless of whether or not you like the movie, National Treasure is a staple of the early 2000’s. The truest example of the Hollywood Blockbuster. Here’s Nic Cage saying some stuff with some intense music. Here’s a funny guy and an attractive female that the lead character will eventually get with. Here’s a villain. Don’t worry about why he’s bad, he just is. Oh and there’s even a labyrinth to nowhere that is perfectly lit by torchlight. National Treasure has it all. So it’s a shame that it must be discussed on this Podcast. But hey, great movies have come into this line of fire before. Is National Treasure among them? Tune in to find out. Or just read the next sentence. Eh, not really. I mean the main character is named "Benjamin Franklin Gates" for God's sake.
