Huma-Hollywood ang project, mga Bes!

Hollywood film and TV star Katie Chonacas kikis with us about her latest ventures in her multi-faceted career. Katie is practically a 'veteran' having worked in the entertainment industry for two decades. Her past projects include film roles with Nicholas Cage, Milla Jovovich, Morgan Freeman, Antonio Banderas  (even acting in a scene with De Niro and Pacino!), and appearing on CSI:NY and Law and Order among others. She is easily  recognizable as lead actress in P!nk's Who Knew, and The Chemical Brothers' The Golden Path music videos. 

More interestingly, Katie shares with the project why she has a very special connection to the Philippines and why she is aching to do a documentary about a certain Filipino girl. Katie also gamely answers our 'rapid fire' questions -  at pakinggan kung ano ang reaksiyon ni Katie nang binyagan natin sha with her very own drag name!

We are proud to feature prominent LGBTQ+ people and profile their stories on this series!

Bilang buena mano, we present to you Jerico Goldmar Ebabacol, more popularly known among his constituents as Kap Bingo! He serves as Captain to Baranggay 17 in the City of Golden Friendship, Cagayan de Oro City in the southern island of Mindanao, Philippines.

Kap Bingo takes us back to his childhood as a young queer boy and his struggles with his gender identity growing up. From the start, fabulous na talaga ang story nya! He talks about his foray into the world of politics at the tender young age of 15 at ang mga pinagdaanan niya sa larangan ng pulitika bilang isang out-and-proud queer person. Open si Kap na nakipagchika about his advocacies,  frustrations and pet peeves with the LGBTQ community. At what about his future plans in politics? Future representative in congress or in the senate? Aba, why not?!

Plus, may exclusive kiki si Kap about being a - teka, tama ba ito -  a runaway bride? Alamin! Game na game din niyang sinagot ang ilang naughty rapid-fire questions! Sino kaya sa mga bessies natin ang nahulog sa upuan dahil hindi kinaya ang kanyang mga sagot?

And also, this is our first project where we speak mostly in Visayan/Cebuano (and survived)!

Teacher Tim has a past he's not ashamed to talk about. After all, it's led him to and helped him with his current career as a proud sex educator. Listen as he talks candidly about his journey from being an Ateneo grade schooler to accidentally landing an escort job while working in retail to being an advocate for the LGBTQIA community in Toronto.

Exciting talaga ang  kiki - from talking about his childhood dream to growing up in a conservative Filipino family eventually immigrating to Canada, to his not-so-accidental foray into (gasp!) escorting.

Anu-ano ang mga misconceptions natin sa trabaho ng isang sex worker? Saan siya kumukuha ng clients niya lalo na when he went solo? Anong klaseng serbisyo ang ino-offer niya sa mga parokyano niya? Kamusta ang kita sa ganitong trabaho? How did he protect himself while he was escorting? At ano ang nagbunsod sa kanya na mag-shift careers from sex worker to legitimate sex educator?

Ano nga ba ang hitsura ng normal na puki? Na-hurt ka ba nung sinabihan ka niyang maluwag ka na daw? Dapat bang hiwalayan ni lalaki ang kanyang asawa kapag hindi ito dinugo sa kanilang honeymoon? Ano nga ba ang magic ingredient ng vagina-tightening soaps and pills? Magkano magpasikip ng puki? Nalalaman nga ba ng mga lalaki kung mahiligin ang babae base lamang sa amoy ng kanyang ari? 

Halina’t pasukin natin ang basa at masalimuot na mundo ng puki. Pustahan tayo, mga bes, na yung inaakalang mong vagina ay hindi pala vagina in the first place!

Vagina owner ka man o hindi, it’s about time we have this conversation! Let us bow down to the almighty puki and give it the respect it deserves. After all, we were all made in one!

At higit sa lahat, hanapin natin once and for all kung nasaan nga ba ang lintik na clitoris na yan!

•  The World Health Organization defines sexual health as fundamental to the overall health and well-being of individuals, couples and families, and to the social and economic development of communities and countries. Sexual health, when viewed affirmatively, requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. 
• 2019 was the ninth consecutive year that the Philippines has reported a rise in teenage pregnancies
• The Philippines has recorded a 7% increase in births among girls aged 15 and below in 2019, up from the figure on teenage pregnancies in 2018.
• Filipino minors who gave birth in 2019 increased to 62,510 from 62,341 in 2018.
• There is a strong scientific consensus that providing people—in particular, adolescents—access to information and services related to sexual and reproductive health is not linked to increases in sexual activity.
• Population-level trends likewise affirm this conclusion, as interventions such as the HPV vaccine, affordable contraceptive access and comprehensive sex education programs have not led to more sexual activity.
• Despite strong evidence debunking the “promiscuity” argument, social conservatives continue to use it as a pretext to block or undermine policies and programs that make sexual and reproductive health information and services more available.

So what's stopping us from normalizing healthy conversations about sex, mga Bes?

Nag-uulyanin. Second childhood. Bumalik sa pagkabata.

Sa Pilipinas, iyan ang mga tawag natin sa taong may Alzheimer’s Disease - isang sakit, isang diagnosis. While everybody forgets something every now and then – a word, where you last put your phone, the name of a person you went to school with  – ang taong may Alzheimer’s in its late stages finds it hard to even carry out a simple conversation, or even respond to their environment to survive from day to day. Without question, it is devastating on the person suffering from it.

Pero gaano kahirap ito para sa pamilya ng taong may Alzheimer’s? Gaano kasakit to realize that your once independent, strong-willed, breadwinner of a parent cannot even feed herself anymore, or even tell you na she is in so much pain dahil may broken hip na pala siya? Isang Bessie natin sa The Balut Kiki Project ang magkukwento sa atin how it is to live with – no, LOVE – keep loving somebody who has been suffering from this debilitating disease.
