It finally came time for the two of us to open that door and walk through. The door that would lead us both to new lives and the freedom to choose something that was a better fit. After all the turmoil, the final conversations seemed to go by quickly... that's probably just my perspective from looking back. 

From here on in there will be repair and rejuvenation and new projects and rebirth!

I had that big talk with my daughter. It was a conversation to remember. 

And then, not long afterwards, I almost lost my children. I was almost seeing their faces on the back of milk cartons. It was terrifying and fed into all my worst fears and all my discomfort in the new city that I had somehow agreed to move to.

There are those thresholds you cross in childhood as various myths slip away and you "grow up." They are often harsh slaps from reality, but I think that Savannah and I came through this one fairly gracefully.

At least the therapist I was seeing in Charlotte was creative. She did all sorts of interesting techniques including hypnosis. Maybe she wasn't sure exactly how to treat me and she was just throwing in everything she knew, but it was entertaining!

When a marriage starts coming apart one wants to trace the steps that led there to see if there's a way to unwind the damage. Is there a threshold between fixable and broken where we can switch tracks and turn back? This is where I was in the spring of 1999, and all around me I could see evidence of similar things happening to others. It was like a spring cleaning for the new millennium.
