So, what do you know about the world of crypto currency? For me it's not much, but I also know that if someone asked me what is a natural partnership for craft beer, there would be maybe 100 things I would mention before crypto currency came out of my mouth.

But, with crypto currency hitting the mainstream in recent months, (I know this cos my taxi driver was giving me a lesson in it recently), maybe a craft beer crypto currency collaboration ain't as strange as it seems.

This episode is all about starting the conversation about listening, respecting and treating everyone in the same manner.

The craft beer industry has been shaken up recently, and with good reason. The social media posts from here and abroad, and articles published on the Crafty Pint and other sites, highlighting the way that our female colleagues in the industry have been treated now and in the past got me thinking. Can I, should I do something to help with this podcast of mine and not only celebrate the good stuff, but highlight the other issues we need to have a conversation about. The answer is yes, so here we are.

As you will hear on this episode, I got off to a little bit of a rough start, but we got there in the end...we had a conversation.

This non alcoholic beer craze seems to be gaining momentum. Carlton Zero is being seen in the AFL as a major sponsor, Heineken is all over our TV screens and in Europe it seems that some soccer stadiums are going dry and punters will be watch the ball go in to the back of the auld onion bag while sipping on a beer that won't make them bash on with their opposing supporters.

As Bob Dylan once said, times they are a changing.

In Australia, the big boys are leading the charge with Non-Alc options under both Domestic and International brands. Not wanting to leave it all to the big boys, we are also starting to see craft beer lovers have options as well. One such option is Upflow Brewing, under the guidance of Slow Beer's Chris Menichelli.

It was going to take a lot of convincing for me to get on board the Non-Alc train, so I bought myself a four ack and sat down for a really interesting chat with Chris.

Nic as worked in a number of Australian breweries, spent time in the UK & Japan and worked two vintages at wineries back in Australia. All of these adventures have left him with a plethora of stories to tell and a whole lot of ideas to try and squeeze into the small space that Molly Rose calls home in Collingwood.

Where do you start when trying to describe this brewery, and turn that into a snappy episode title? To be honest, I wasn't sure, so apologies for the generic titles. You see, Spinifex Brewing is Aboriginal and Veteran owned, making beers with native ingredients in their home state of Western Australia, supporting our returned Veterans and looking to take Fosters' mantle as the most well known Aussie export beer...how do you fit that into a snappy 5 or 6 word title?

I was pretty fortunate to be able to get DJ on as a guest, and as they say good things come to those who wait. Dj and his wife, Harriet, have been so busy with their little brew pub in the Blue Mountains, as it takes the Aussie craft beer world by storm!

In a little over 12 months, the brew pub concept that was designed to give DJ and Harriet the work life balance they craved by moving out of the hustle and bustle of Sydney, has kind of gone gang busters. During Covid they pivoted online and craft beer drinkers lost their minds over their regular limited releases, so much so that they now have to build another brewery to keep up with demand!

DJ joined me for a chat, in between pouring concrete slabs, as the new brewery build is in full swing. Even with all this extra stress in his life, his passion for his craft rings true in this chat.

I think everyone is aware of how Your Mates Brewing, the "Overnight Success", rose to prominence in the Hottest 100 beers a few years ago. The two boys from the Sunny Coast, Matt and Christen, were all of a sudden the next big thing in craft beer, but also a bit of a target for ridicule and jealousy.

Whichever point of view you have on how Larry surprised the industry, you have to admire the lads for how they have continued to work their butts off to build the Your Mates business. Now the boys have outgrown their current digs and are looking to develop a new site to introduce Larry, Macca, Sally, Eddie, and their other mates to the beer drinking public.

My sleepy little hometown of Hobart is once again alive, welcoming back tourists and it is great to see. One such tourist decided to take time out from his visit with his wife to sit down with me for a chat. A chat that has been in the works for a while, as we waited for Your Mates to have some new news to share...now is the time.
