The Beer N’ Chicken boys are back with their first show in 2021, and we’ve got a lot to catch up on and get into indeed. We start the show honoring the memory of one of Major League Baseball’s greatest stars, Hank Aaron, who passed away last week at the age of 86. Shaq is on the bad side of a lot of current NBA players as of late, after he told Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell that he doesn’t think he has what it takes to go to the next level. Is it a fair criticism from an old head trying to motivate a young player, or is it simply hate for the way the game is played today? The Detroit Lions and longtime Quarterback Matthew Stafford are parting ways. After the Lions hired a new GM, and a new coach to start off yet another rebuilding project, Stafford has asked the team to be traded, and the Lions look to be willing to oblige him. What would be the best landing spot for Stafford, and do the fellas think he’ll win his first playoff game once he’s out of Detroit? And then we talk Tom Brady. The man is on his way to his record breaking 10th Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he wins Super Bowl LV, do the fellas think he’ll go out on top and retire, or will he put on the pads again next year? Either way, Spann is about to be eating hella crow on this episode.

The fellas are back this week, with their hot take shenanigans and we got a lot to cover so we’ll get right to it. Deion Sanders has just been hired as Head Coach of Jackson State University, bringing a level of celebrity, and some say credibility to their football program. Will we see more former players with the level of profile of a Deion Sanders also start making the moves to go coach at HBCUs and will more higher profile young athletes follow their lead? The NFL is being hit with a spate of positive COVID-19 test. Some games are being postponed, and some players are only out for two weeks before being allowed to be back with the team after testing positive. Because the NFL didn’t bubble off their players like the NBA and NHL leagues did, do the fellas think we will actually see the NFL actually finish this season?

The NBA Finals have concluded, and the Los Angeles Lakers have tied the Boston Celtics to win their 17th NBA Championship. And LeBron James has just concluded his 10th appearance in the NBA Finals earning his 4th NBA Championship. So with that in mind, of course comes the nearly annual conversation of LeBron James’ place in the game, and whether or not this Championship makes him the GOAT. Since the Lakers have won this Championship, in the bubble no less, will either Spann or Cliff be able to say that Lebron James has surpassed Michael Jordan in their eyes as the Greatest of All Time?

The fellas are back this week to talk a little football, as this is the NFL’s opening weekend of the 2020 season. But the season opened up with a ratings slump, and some folks are already taking credit for that slump, but is it too early to say that more people won’t watch football as the season progresses? We’ll talk about what some of those reasons could be today. And while we’re talking football, could the New Orleans Saints be looking to replace one old great Quarterback for another one who just made a major move? We also will revisit the hiring of Steve Nash as the Head Coach of the Brooklyn Nets. Nash agrees that his hiring was indeed a result of white privilege, is he going to resign from that job though? And because both of the fellas are from Chicago, and with both of the Chicago baseball teams are in first place, we’ll discuss how likely a possibility it could be for there to the a Red Line World Series.

We get things kicked off with a little bit of catching up, before we dive right into the shenanigans. The NBA Playoffs have kicked off, and maybe the fellas were wrong about the bubble? We’ll talk about the recent signing of Adrian Peterson to an NFL team that officially signals his career is over. We’ll be talking about college coaches, and their use of the Black Lives Matter movement in an effort to recruit players. Kelly Stafford, the wife of Detroit Lions QB Matt Stafford comes out to say that they may have had it wrong concerning Colin Kaepernick’s silent protest. Stephen A. Smith goes off on ESPN’s First Take about the Brooklyn Nets signing Steve Nash to be that teams new Head Coach, and so much more!

Looks like some sports are on the comeback, and so are the fellas here at Beer N’ Chicken! We get things kicked off, just catching up and what not before we get to the nitty gritty. We’ll start off with something petty though, like who in the hell could have seen this in their wildest dreams? Will the Detroit Pistons be playing basketball next year with a Michael Jordan logo front and center on their jerseys? Y’all know the fellas are going to be cooking on that one. And while we’re on the topic of basketball, the NBA plans to resume their season this week in the bubble down in Orlando Florida. Some star players have already tested positive for Coronavirus before heading down to the bubble. Names like Russell Westbrook, Bam Adebayo, and DeAndre’ Jordan. And even though we will probably still watch these games, should they still be trying to do this? Especially after we just heard what Lou Williams just got finished doing. And still on the topic of basketball, the women of the WNBA have upped the ante on their demonstration during the national anthem, by walking off the court, and going back to their locker rooms, as the song is being played. Do you think we’ll be seeing more creative ways of this kind of protesting?

Then we move over to Major League Baseball, as their season has finally had it’s Opening Day. To the surprise of many, scores of players came out to the field and kneeled and wore T-Shirts in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. This comes after the seemingly ostracization of former Oakland A’s Catcher, Bruce Maxwell, after he was the first MLB Player to kneel during the National Anthem. Could the fact that there are no fans in the stands at these games be playing a part in the players feeling safer to make such demonstrations?

The sports world, and work schedules haven’t been kind to the fellas here at #BNCPod, but we’ll be damned if we don’t press on! And with that said, welcome to episode 74 of the show. And on today’s show we’ll kick things off talking about the commitment of Makur Maker to play basketball at Howard University, and his attempt to bring other high value recruits to play at HBCUs as opposed to going to the traditional power elite schools in the NCAA.Will this become a movement among young prospects, or is this too little too late for HBCUs? We move on to the NFL where Cam Newton has just become the newest Quarterback for the New England Patriots, and many believe the Patriots got themselves a steal. Richard Sherman for one, thinks it’s shameful that Newton is being paid so little, but will Cam Newton give the Patriots the biggest bang for their bucks this coming season, that is, if there is a season?

The Washington Redskins are facing more pressure than ever to change the name of their team. After years of team owner Dan Snyder’s insistence that he would never change the name, some corporate partners have decided to put the screws on the organization. And this time it’s seems to be working. What’s different about this time, as opposed to all the other pushes to get them to change the name of that team. And the pressure on Washington has also made the Cleveland Indians take formal steps into changing their name as well. We’ll discuss what we think all this means.

Then we get to the NBA, as they prepare to restart the season in a bubble in Orlando Florida, some last minute roster changes are happening because some players do have concerns about the Coronavirus, some have opted out for personal family reasons. One key addition to a championship caliber team is that of JR Smith joining the LA Lakers. Is he the piece that puts them over the hump? And with so many things happening to make the restart of this season so difficult, Giannis Antetokounmpo believes that this will be the toughest championship ever won in the NBA, challenging the idea that whomever wins the chip this year won’t really be respected as a true champion. Is he right, we’ll definitely be discussing that.

And then of course, like always, we’ll wrap up everything up by Winging It out. The fellas are back with some more sports hot take shenanigans, and on today’s show, we will wring out the last bit of juice that resulted from The Last Dance docuseries, as audio has emerged that proves Michael Jordan may not have been telling the whole truth about his role in keeping Isaiah Thomas off of the 1992 Dream Team. NBA Basketball is set to return to finish out the season with just 22 teams and a run for the playoffs. Is this a good idea, or should they have just canceled the season, and started up again in October? And later in the show, we’ll talk about how all of the protest from around the country has maybe forced the NFL to perform an about face, as they deal with the issue of kneeling during the national anthem. But some players still can’t seem to keep from putting their foot in their mouths. The latest contestant on that summer jam screen, just so happens to be New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees.

It’s been a month! But the guys are back with another episode of The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast, and we get things kicked off by catching up. It’s been busy for both Spann and Cliff, so we’ll catch up with the fellas to see what they’re up to, and kept us from finishing our recaps of The Last Dance the way we wanted. But then we get right into it, and we talk about the death of former Chicago Bull, and Utah Jazz coaching legend Jerry Sloan. Patrick Ewing has contracted the Coronavirus, and the NBA is planning on trying to resume the season. But should they? And lastly, After the ending of The Last Dance on ESPN, some of the players from those Chicago Bulls teams haven’t been happy with their portrayals in the docuseries. One of it’s biggest critics, is former Chicago Bulls Power Forward, Horace Grant, who’s come out to say that the documentary is filled with lies, and left tons of things out. So we’ll discuss, if The Last Dance was just more Michael Jordan propaganda, or is this just sour grapes from players who may have personal issues with Michael Jordan.

Them Beer N’ Chicken boys are back with some more brew and smack talk, and we’re continuing on with our reviews and recaps of the Chicago Bulls docuseries, The Last Dance airing on ESPN. On tonight’s episode we’re joined by the fellas from The ShopTalk Podcast, Jay and Dame to break down episodes 3 and 4. These episodes focused on the acquisition of Dennis Rodman, and his integration within the team, having already been a part of the Bulls arch rivals, The Detroit Pistons. And also, the hiring of Phil Jackson, and how his steady hand, helped get the Bulls over the hump, and on to the mountaintop as NBA Champions. But there was this huge albatross hanging on the necks of the Bulls before they got to that mountain top, and that was the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons, so we dive head first into that rivalry, and because half of the show will feature Bulls fans, and the other half Pistons fans, we’ll get to talk about it in the ways in which our uncles did back in the day!
