Bongani Bingwa joins Adam Gilchrist for a look at the biggest global stories shaping the day. First, as COP30 begins in Belém, world leaders have turned up the heat on US President Donald Trump, who’s been accused of “lying” about climate science by the presidents of Colombia and Chile. With the UK’s Sir Keir Starmer lamenting the collapse of political consensus on climate action, negotiations are set to focus on securing new funding for forest protection and adaptation. In Germany, a chilling courtroom verdict has shocked the nation — a palliative nurse has been sentenced to life for murdering 10 patients and attempting to kill 27 others, using lethal injections to lighten his workload. And finally, language meets technology as Collins Dictionary names “vibe coding” the Word of the Year for 2025 — a nod to the rise of AI tools that transform natural language into working computer code, capturing the “vibe” of an increasingly automated era.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Nigel Beck, Head of Sustainable Finance and ESG at RMB, about the evolving landscape of transition finance — the bridge between today’s carbon-heavy economy and a greener, more inclusive future. As global leaders wrap up the B20 Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force, Beck explains that while green finance is now widely understood, transition finance remains the missing link in helping Africa move toward net zero without leaving communities behind. He unpacks the key outcomes from the G20 discussions, the challenges of scaling up investment, and how banks like RMB are developing innovative financing models to support industries in shifting responsibly. The conversation also explores what makes a credible transition strategy — from Paris Agreement alignment and socio-economic inclusion to transparent reporting — highlighting how financial institutions can drive sustainable growth while ensuring a just transition for all.

Bongani Bingwa and Khabazela dive into the stories lighting up social media and sparking lively debates across timelines. First up, the internet is buzzing about the age-old question: Why are men wired to offer solutions? Women are asking for empathy and listening, not fixes, while men insist they’re simply trying to help, prompting a playful but pointed gender dialogue about communication and emotional connection. Then, the parking lot confessionals: How careful are you when opening your car door? From accidental dents to awkward confrontations, users are sharing their parking lot war stories, debating courtesy, carelessness, and karma behind the wheel.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Luke Lamprecht, Child Protection and Development Specialist, about the heartbreaking rise in child pregnancies , a silent emergency threatening South Africa’s youngest girls. Between January 2024 and February 2025, Statistics South Africa recorded nearly 124,000 births to mothers aged 19 and under, including more than 2,100 girls between 10 and 14. Thousands more pregnancies ended in termination, with the Department of Basic Education reporting about 730 cases in that same age group last year. Legally, any pregnancy involving a girl under 16 is automatically a case of statutory rape, requiring schools to report it. Yet data remains incomplete, and accountability is scarce — we still don’t know how many perpetrators are charged or how many survivors receive justice or care. Lamprecht warns that the numbers reflect a deeper crisis of poverty, exploitation, and systemic failure, calling for stronger protection, education, and enforcement to safeguard children whose childhoods are being stolen before they even begin.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to award-winning journalist Mandy Wiener about former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi’s guilty plea to corruption and money laundering linked to over R1.8 billion in tenders and kickbacks , a plea deal that lets him avoid jail in exchange for cooperation with the NPA. Wiener says the case reflects a strategic shift in state corruption probes but raises a key question: Should the corrupt walk free to catch the powerful? Meanwhile, Jacob Zuma has suspended his deputy Dr John Hlophe and reversed Des van Rooyen’s appointment in a bid to reassert control within the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. Police are investigating the alleged attempted murder of businessman Brown Mogotsi in Vosloorus, and Deputy Police Ministers Polly Boshielo and Cassel Mathale have told Parliament they were not consulted on the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team, exposing worrying cracks in communication and accountability at the top of the police ministry.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Adam for a look at some of the most talked-about global stories making headlines today. First, tragedy in Laos, where an American father and son were stung to death by a swarm of Asian giant hornets while ziplining at a jungle resort , a chilling reminder of nature’s unpredictable dangers. Then, in the Atlantic, Portuguese authorities intercepted a narco-submarine carrying more than 1.7 tonnes of cocaine, a major bust highlighting the evolving tactics of international drug traffickers. And finally, controversy in the scientific world as the UK’s top science academy suggests that geoengineering, using sun-reflecting technology to cool the planet — could be effective, though experts warn it’s no substitute for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Bongani Bingwa checks in with Khabazela for another round of the stories lighting up social media. First up, a deeply emotional topic that’s struck a chord online — what to do with the phone number of a loved one who has passed away. Do you keep it saved as a way of holding on, or is deleting it part of letting go? Listeners share their stories of memory, loss, and love. Then, we shift gears to something lighter but all too relatable — opening car doors in parking lots. Are you careful when swinging that door open, or are you guilty of leaving a few mystery dents behind? Khabazela unpacks the viral debates, the laughter, and the lessons from both heart and humour.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to a health expert as South Africa faces a major setback in its decades-long fight against HIV. After years of progress marked by fewer deaths, wider treatment access, and millions on life-saving medication, the sudden withdrawal of key U.S. funding since February has left clinics struggling to stay open. The impact is already being felt — with an estimated 660,000 viral-load tests missed, thousands may be going without critical monitoring to ensure their treatment is effective. This morning, we unpack what these aid cuts mean for the country’s public health system, the vulnerable communities most at risk, and the urgent steps needed to prevent South Africa from losing hard-won ground in the battle against HIV.
