Bongani checks in with Khabazela for a roundup of the stories lighting up social media. First up: “Get back on the horse”, a heartwarming viral clip sparks the question, have you ever had a traumatic experience, taken time away, and then bravely faced your fear to try again? Then it’s “That’s not what I wanted” a viral rant about botched service raises the debate: should you still pay when the service isn’t what was promised? With products, you can return them but when it comes to poor service, what’s the right way to handle it?

Bongani speaks to Lindi Masina, Mpumalanga’s Education MEC and Communications Manager for Equal Education, Ayanda Sishi-Wigzell about the long-overdue opening of the Mkhondo Smart School, a project that began in 2019 with a R225 million budget and an 18-month timeline but only opened in 2025 after ballooning to R625 million. Officials cite Covid-19, bad weather, geological complications, subcontractor disputes, and pandemic shutdowns as reasons for the delays and cost overruns. The project stalled in 2021/2022 after funds dried up, and when construction resumed, vandalism had further damaged what was built. Despite the challenges, the school is now ready, raising questions about oversight, accountability, and how to prevent such massive delays in future infrastructure projects.

Bongani speaks to Dr Ntsikelelo Breakfast, Political Analyst, about a whirlwind week in South African politics that felt more like a drama series but with consequences that shape the nation’s future.New research suggests the ANC may retain control of only Limpopo and the Eastern Cape by 2029, with Mpumalanga and the Free State potentially slipping into coalition territory. Malusi Gigaba says this week’s national dialogue should’ve been delayed to avoid becoming another “talk shop,” pointing to the country’s struggle with translating talk into tangible action. Meanwhile, Trade Minister Parks Tau promises a revised trade offer to the US, with hopes pinned on meaningful economic impact. And in a defiant moment, Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie refuses to apologise for past racist posts, even if President Ramaphosa himself were to ask.

Adam Gilchrist joins Bongani Bingwa with a look at the big international stories making headlines. First, a worrying wildfire is sweeping through parts of Greece, now threatening a major city as emergency crews scramble to contain it.Then, Europe is ramping up diplomatic efforts ahead of a major summit, pushing hard for peace in the ongoing war in Ukraine but will it be enough to shift the stalemate? And finally, eyebrows are raised over an unexpected development: reports suggest Alaska could be the bizarre venue for a potential Trump–Putin meeting.

Bongani speaks to Lindiwe Sebesho, Managing Director of Remchannel, in studio for the second week of the Old Mutual Thought Leaders Forum. Drawing on insights from the latest Remchannel Salary and Wage Survey and Old Mutual Corporate’s OnTrack research, Sebesho explores the shifting attitudes of South Africa’s workforce towards retirement. With early-career professionals changing jobs more frequently and disengaging from traditional benefits, employers are being challenged to rethink how they drive loyalty and financial well-being. Sebesho explains why outdated retirement models are failing — and what companies must do to stay relevant in the eyes of a younger, more mobile workforce.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Khabela on What’s Gone Viral with Khabazela. In this morning’s viral trends, Khabazela brings two hot topics lighting up social media. First up — adult pacifiers. Yes, it’s a thing. Some adults are using dummies to cope with stress and anxiety. It’s sparked debate online: How do you destress, and did you give your child a dummy? What memories come to mind when you think of one? Then, it’s a conversation around consumer rights and expectations. What happens when you pay for a service, but it’s not what was agreed on? Unlike physical products that can be returned, bad service is trickier. Is it fair to refuse payment — and how do you handle service letdowns?

Bongani speaks to Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, following a violent incident at Maponya Mall in Soweto. An e-hailing driver was shot dead at close range while dropping off a passenger, in what authorities believe is linked to ongoing tensions between e-hailing services and local taxi operators. Two others were injured, one vehicle was set alight, and another torched. Diale-Tlabela discusses the security response, the broader implications for public transport safety, and steps being taken to prevent further escalation.
