UNC is currently facing a lawsuit alleging that the university violated North Carolina’s open meetings laws during the hiring of Bill Belichick. The suit was filed by Chris Clemens, a former UNC provost, who claims that the UNC Board of Trustees held an “emergency meeting” behind closed doors on December 12, 2024, to discuss and approve Belichick’s hiring without proper public transparency. The lawsuit also alleges that the board held other closed sessions related to conference realignment, athletics finances, and policy debates that should have been conducted publicly. Clemens further accuses the board of retaliating against him by asking for his resignation after he leaked information about these closed meetings to the faculty. What really happened?

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels currently hold a 2-2 record and are 12th in the ACC. Three UNC football players have recently left the program: wide receivers Aziah Johnson and Paul Billups, along with offensive tackle Trevyon Green. Aziah Johnson, a transfer from Michigan State, appeared in only one game this season before departing. Paul Billups, a redshirt sophomore, also chose to leave the team after limited playing time. Mike Gundy has been fired as head coach of the Oklahoma State football program after a disappointing start to the 2025 season. The Cowboys opened the year with a 1-2 record, continuing a downward trend that began at the end of the 2024 season. Gundy, who had been with the program for 20 seasons and held an overall record of 170-90, was one of the longest-tenured coaches in college football. Following his dismissal, Oklahoma State named Doug Meacham as the interim head coach. What is Gundy’s legacy?

Bruce Pearl has officially stepped down as the head coach of Auburn University’s men’s basketball team. After leading the Tigers to their most successful season ever — a 32-6 record, a No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, an SEC regular-season title, and a Final Four appearance — Pearl announced that he no longer feels he can give 100% to the job. Despite rumors, he confirmed he will not be running for U.S. Senate. Instead, he will stay connected to the program in a new role as a special assistant and ambassador to the athletic director. Taking over the head coaching position is his son, Steven Pearl, who has been a longtime assistant and most recently served as associate head coach. Bruce Pearl leaves behind a legacy as Auburn’s winningest men’s basketball coach, having transformed the program into a national contender during his tenure. What is Pearl's legacy?
