December 10, 2019Episode 255: Something LightToday's podcast is out of the ordinary. Hanging out with a couple of friends last night, we got to telling some jokes. Those jokes led to a great deal of laughter. Instead of a normal, more intense and serious dialogue, I leave you with this. Some very much not serious jokes, accompanied by my extremely dorky and nerdy laughter. I hope you enjoy this break from your regularly scheduled, super thoughtful material. And as always, Much Love ❤️....more5minPlay
December 08, 2019Episode 254: My Thoughts on New Year’s ResolutionsIt’s December 8th. Why am I talking about New Year’s Resolutions now? Well, that’s what this podcast is about. I give my thoughts on New Year’s Resolutions, along with why December is such an important month for any potential New Year’s Resolution that you attempt to implement. I really had a blast recording this episode, which I hope you can sense in my voice. Thanks for listening once again. It means so so much to me. Now go get your head start! Much Love ❤️....more21minPlay
December 06, 2019Episode 253: The Diderot EffectToday’s podcast is the story of the 18th century French philosopher, Denis Diderot. His story is a fascinating one, and the lessons we can take from it apply so well in our current world. I’ll leave it to you to listen to the episode to hear the whole story. I hope you enjoy it. I’ll be back soon! Thanks so much for listening. As always, Much Love ❤️....more9minPlay
December 04, 2019Episode 252: Thanksgiving LeftoversOver the last few days, I’ve been thinking about how I could talk about my Thanksgiving experiences and the time I’ve spent with my family on the podcast. That thinking has brought me to a bit of a different approach. Instead of telling you my thoughts and actively reflecting on my Thanksgiving, I think that it is more intriguing and thought provoking to give you my “Thanksgiving Leftovers.” And by that, I mean the unanswered questions that came up in conversation or came through my head during Thanksgiving. I think you’ll find these questions to be quite thought provoking and fun to grapple with. As always, Much Love ❤️ and I’ll be back soon....more10minPlay
December 02, 2019Episode 251: Taking Myself Too SeriouslyToday’s podcast is dedicated to one of the most common criticisms that I receive in my life. “Matt, stop taking yourself so seriously” is something I’ve gotten used to hearing. Initially, I argued so much about it when people said this to me. But as I grew and started to take a harder look at myself, I realized that this criticism is 100% true. So in this episode, I detail the reasons why people give me this criticism, along with the reasons why I hope they continue to criticize me for it. Thanks so much for listening. I hope that you found this brief reflection to be valuable. As always, Much Love ❤️....more13minPlay
November 30, 2019Episode 250: Following RulesToday’s podcast is a short yet powerful one. In it, I detail the importance of having a set of rules in life, the importance of following them, the benefits of following them, and the perils of not having any. This dialogue also brings me to a brief and unexpected breakdown of the spectrum of liberalism and conservatism (yay for some fun bonus content). I really hope you enjoyed this one and found some value in it. And to finish off this description (if you’ve even made it this far), email me a rule, or multiple rules, that you follow in your life - [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you. November 28, 2019Episode 249: 8 Questions to Check on Your Well-BeingThis is one of the most detailed and practical podcasts that I have recorded recently. In this episode, I walk you through 8 key questions to ask yourself to check in on your well-being. These are questions that I have frequently asked myself after learning about the psychological theories and research behind each. The impact that taking a step back to ask myself these questions has had on me is quite profound, as you will hopefully hear in the episode. I hope that you give it a try by asking yourself these questions. I also hope that you find this process to be useful in some capacity. Lastly, THANK YOU for your attention and for your support. It means so so much to me (even if it’s the 100th time I write this). And to my American listeners, Happy Thanksgiving! Much Love ❤️....more26minPlay
November 26, 2019Episode 248: BoxesThis is one of the most challenging topics I’ve tried to tackle on this podcast (and on my blog, for that matter). This podcast is a reading of my article titled “Boxes”, which you can find on The Platform - mattbest.net/theplatform/boxes . This is a topic that I am deeply interested in and a topic about which I have had a ton of thoughts and internal debates. If you have any feedback on the contents of this episode, please reach out to me. I’d love to hear your reactions. As always, Much Love ❤️....more11minPlay
November 24, 2019Episode 247: ChoicesOn a walk through my old university the other day, I got to thinking about ways that we can describe life. The best way that I came up with was describing it as a set of choices. As I thought about this at a deeper level, I realized the magnitude of power that choices carry. We often don’t have a well developed framework for making choices either, even though making choices is the most important thing that we do in our lives. In this podcast, I further articulate this thought and talk about a way to start thinking about developing a framework to make choices. I hope that you find at least a small piece of insight here. As always, I greatly appreciate your attention and support. It’s one of the things that consistently brings me back to record more and more episodes. Much Love ❤️....more11minPlay
November 22, 2019Episode 246: GrandpaLast week, I talked to my grandmother about my grandpa for an hour and a half. He died when I was 8 years old, so I only had a fairly basic and naive view of him and his life. We had plenty of nice experiences together, but I never truly got to know him as a man. In this podcast, I discuss what I learned about my grandpa from my grandmother in that conversation and the biggest lesson I can take from his life. I sincerely hope you find value in this. As always, thanks for tuning in. It means so much to me. Much Love ❤️....more11minPlay
