The best way to unlock Emprise du Lion is to focus on the main quest to start with as this will eventually open up all the map as by doing this you'll find all the campsites. Once you've completed the main quest of setting up all your camps and such and driven the Venatori/Red Templars out of Suledin keep you should effectively have enough control of the area to switch focus to the smaller missions. EDL is a pretty linear map compared to the others in terms of really there is only one way. There is a way though just really try to remember where you've been and try a different path if it leads to your death last time. That's kind of what I did and I eventually found a way through.
