  • 361 – What is the Most Effective Prayer?

361 – Would you like your prayers to be more effective?

    Of course!

Other times you pour your heart out to God and you’re not sure it makes any difference.

So is there a best way to pray? What is the most effective prayer approach?

Well, there’s not a secret formula or a set of words or phrases that that make your prayers more effective.

But there are definitely some things you can do to pray more effectively.

    IN THIS EPISODE:

    • One of the most common mistakes most people make when they pray
    • What you can learn from a rooster about more effective prayer
    • The approach Jesus took with prayer, which was and is very effective

  • 360 – Bringing into Captivity Every Thought to the Obedience of Christ

    360 – FREEDOM FRIDAY

What would you do if you were the gatekeeper for an important event?

You could only let in people who were authorized to be there, people who had tickets or an invitation.

You would be in charge of who got in and keeping out the people who weren’t supposed to be there.

In this episode of Freedom Friday, we talk about

    • You are the gatekeeper for your mind of all the thoughts that come to you
    • You have the ability to let in thoughts and keep others out
    • Some thoughts are wolves in sheep’s clothing
    • Some harmful thoughts, like temptations to do something wrong, may knock on your mental door disguised as something good and innocent
    • The more you know yourself as the image and likeness of God, the more you’ll be able to discern whether a thought is actually good or bad, whether it will lead you to disobey Christ or to follow Jesus more closely.

This is the last in the Freedom Friday series.

  • 359 – Reading the New Testament Books in Order of Date Written

259 – Have you ever read the New Testament Books in Order of Date Written?

Have you ever read through the entire New Testament from beginning to end?

What did you learn from doing this? How did it strengthen and encourage you?

Well, you’re probably very familiar with many parts of the New Testament, lots of the stories, and inspiring verses. But when you read it as a whole,  you get a much bigger perspective of what’s going on.

But the order of the 27 books in the New Testament are not arranged in the order in which they were originally written.

My guest today, Tim Winders, is going to share

    • How he read the books of the New Testament in the chronological order they were written in
    • How this has opened up a whole new understanding of Jesus’s life
    • The early Church
    • The gospel message as a whole

  • 358 – Share Your Spiritual Progress with Someone You Trust

    358 – FREEDOM FRIDAY

How does it feel when you make spiritual progress in your life? It’s pretty exciting isn’t it?

You feel like you’ve finally had a victory over the guilt and sins of the past, or a challenge you’ve been facing.

But then sometimes, right on the heels of that spiritual progress, you fall back into the old patterns of thinking and acting.

How do you hold onto your spiritual progress?

In this episode, we talk about:

    • Share your spiritual progress with a trusted friend
    • Don't share it with everyone you know
    • Let your spiritual progress settle first in your own heart before you share
    • If you don't have a person to share with, write your spiritual progress in a journal as if you were sharing with a friend
    • Keep a journal of your spiritual journey even if you do share with a friend
    • Go back and review what you wrote in your journal from time to time

The more you focus on your spiritual progress and let it solidify in your life, you'll find freedom from the sin and guilt from the past.

AND you find the freedom to be who God made you to be.

  • 357 – Dealing with the tough passages about God’s wrath in the Bible

357 – How do you explain God's wrath in the Bible?

Have you ever read some of those passages in the Old Testament where the text basically says God told the Children of Israel to kill all the inhabitants of Canaan, or other enemies, including the women and children, even babies?

But in the New Testament, Jesus brings a very different perspective to dealing with your enemies. Instead of killing them, or praying for God to kill them, Jesus says to love and bless your enemies.

What’s going on here? How can you reconcile the way God is described in the Old Testament with the way He’s described in the New Testament?

    In this week's episode:

    • The dichotomy between the Old and New Testaments view of God
    • Your concept of God will affect the way you deal with the idea of God's wrath
    • The Old Testament condones and encourages killing your enemies
    • Jesus commands us to love our enemies
    • Does God change His ways or did Jesus change the way see God?

If you want to be more like Jesus, then you need to look at the Old Testament through the lens of Christ to have a clear idea of who God is and how He destroys evil.

  • 356 – Freedom Begins When You Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

    FREEDOM FRIDAY

Are you hungry and thirsty for spiritual things?

Have you ever been really hungry or really thirsty?

Why does that happen? It’s because your body is telling you need to eat or drink something. Hunger and thirst tell us there’s something we need that we don’t have.

Jesus said we will be blessed when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, when we realize the need in our lives for things of the Spirit.

    In this episode:

    • People, places, and things will never satisfy your real needs
    • Only God can fill the hunger in your heart
    • Eventually you'll have to admit your need for a spiritual dimension in your life
    • The world will always tell you material things will satisfy
    • But they never really can because the satisfaction they give is temporary
    • The more you're hungry and thirsty for God, the more you'll be filled

  • 355 – What Is God Teaching You and What Will You Do with It?

355 – What is God teaching you?

When was the last time you felt like God taught you an important lesson? Was it when you did something really well and you felt God showed you how to navigate all the different things that had to happen for a good outcome?

Or did you make some mistakes and God taught you a better way to take care of the situation?

The real question is: What did you do next? What did you do with what God taught you?

Did you do apply those lessons to your life or just chalk it up to experience?.

In this episode, we’re going to talk about

    • God is always teaching us something
    • The importance of putting these ideas into practice in our daily lives
    • What happens when you don't
    • What to do when you don't understand or can't do what God is teaching you
    • Jesus's emphasis on doing what you're taught

  • 354 – Looking at Yourself from the Perspective that the Kingdom of Heaven Is at Hand

    Welcome to Freedom Friday

354 – Jesus said: The kingdom of heaven is at hand

Do you believe him? Most people think heaven is somewhere you go after you die.

When you start seeing yourself from the perspective that heaven is at hand, the shame and guilt from you past will begin to dissolve.

    In this episode:

    • Jesus promised that the kingdom of heaven is at hand
    • You can't see it with your material eyes, just like you can't see radio waves
    • But it's here and God reveals it spiritually
    • You can discern the kingdom of heaven here and now
    • You can see what is true about you in heaven now
    • This brings healing and freedom from guilt and shame

  • 352 – You Have the Mind of Christ: It’s Time to Use it

    It's Freedom Friday

What if you could think and pray like Jesus did?

What if you could love the way Jesus did? Does that even seem possible? What keeps us from doing that?

Sometimes you might think there’s no way you could of be like Jesus and that it’s not even worth trying. Or maybe you’re afraid to love as much as he did. It’s just too much to commit to.

But Jesus wanted and expected everyone who believed in him to follow his example of living and loving.

In fact, Paul repeats this idea in a letter to the church in Corinth, “We have the mind of Christ.” (See I Corinthians 2:16)

In this episode of Freedom Friday, we’re going to talk about

    • What it means to have the mind of Christ
    • How you can begin to think, pray, and love more like Jesus.
