Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical importers and wholesalers Association of Ghana recently bared teeth at Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service for drafting a bill seeking to impose ban on some selected drugs that are imported into the country.

Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia has addressed Ghanaians about his vision for Ghana if he is voted as president in 2024 election. During his addressed, he mentioned that, if he becomes president, he will abolish E-levy which is currently being implemented by the government.

Ghana Police Service has arrested forty-six more persons in connection with attacks on the Bepong chief’s palace and some Police officers at Kwawu Bepong in the Eastern Region. The incident occurred at the chief’s palace, where police intervened to rescue a man alleged to have raped and killed a 45-year-old woman, Akua Kyerewaa, in Adwumasu, Kwahu South Municipality.

Government is set to drop the 15 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity. This decision, according to reports was reached at a Cabinet meeting held on Friday, 2 February 2024. The position currently is that the 15% VAT on electricity is off, and it is likely it could either be off totally or significantly slashed.

The levy seeks to reduce Ghana’s Carbon dioxide emissions and help raise some domestic revenue for government. The bill is to promote the use of eco-friendly technologies and green energy, improve environmental management while controlling general levels of air and water pollution. The Carbon dioxide emissions taxes motorcycles and tricycles will be GH¢75.00 per annum, while motor vehicle buses and coaches up to GH. 3,000 will pay GH¢150.00 per annum. On the other hand, cargo trucks and articulated trucks will be paying GH¢300.00 per annum. After it passage, transport unions wrote to the finance ministry and GRA to suspend its operation and have dialogue with industry players.

GSS report reveals 5% of Ghanaian men aged 15-49 years are not circumcised. This they say is causing lot of sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs). There also various reasons people fail to be circumcised. Hence the move to engage expert to unravel the reason behind this.

University Senior Staff and TEWU have been on strike for some weeks now. The industrial action is as a result of government’s failure to pay their two pension. The strike begun on the 17th of this month and most offices have been closed. National Labour Commission asked the striking workers to call off the strike for negotiation but University Senior Staff and TEWU have failed to listen to the Commission.
