It's Clean Water Wednesday today on The Big Show! Bob is in Guthrie Center with the folks from Verdesian Life Sciences and the Iowa Ag Water Alliance talking about nitrogen efficiency. We start the show with Verdesian's Dave Schwartz looking at ways to get control over nitrogen including inhibitors, placement, and amounts to use. Dr. Mike Castellano from the ISU Dept. of Agronomy tells us about the N Initiative and how farmers can get involved. John King from Lanus Cooperative talks about some of the challenges he hears about from his customers and the practices that he has seen work well. Bryan Doherty from Total Farm Marketing is with us to analyze the markets today as most of the grains are a bit higher. Blake Ballard from Wyffels Hybrids celebrates Wyffels Wednesday with us today with an overview of crop conditions he is seeing.

The hour begins with an out-of-this-world interview with NASA Acres Consortium Director Alyssa Whitcraft, PhD who tells us some of the ways their programs and satellites in space can help the agriculture industry. State Climatologist Justin Glissan tells us how rare the combination of heat and humidity in the next few days is and forecasts when we might see a cool down and some rain. We end today's show with Al Kluis of Kluis Commodities taking a peek at his charts and he talks about his surprise with down markets given this week's heat.

We talk crop disease and drought conditions in North Central Iowa with Angie Rieck-Hinz from Iowa State University Extension. She says it is very noticeable in that part of Iowa where some spotty rainfalls have happened and areas that have missed out. Al Kluis from Kluis commodities is today's market analyst and discusses what is causing today's pressure downward on corn, soybeans, and wheat. With the Pro Farmer Crop Tour underway, David has a report to end the hour on the results out so far from Ohio and Indiana.

To kick off the hour, we're talking with Doug Burns from Farm Credit Services of America about margin protection. Iowa Soybean Association Research Agronomist tells us about an upcoming program about optimizing fertilizer application. Paragon Investments' Jamey Kohake closes up today's show with a look at markets with corn down and soybeans up a bit.

The 3rd Annual Travis Greiner Memorial Tractor Ride is coming up this weekend in Keota, IA and Mark Sheets tells us about the event and the causes they will be raising money for. Jamey Kohake from Paragon Investments breaks down the markets with us today and says that today's crop condition report may not be a big market-mover but he's watching for numbers to come out of the Pro Farmer Crop Tour. Tim Meyer from The Steffes Group ends the hour with us, bragging about the State Fair Queen coming from his home county and fill us in on their upcoming auction calendar.

It's the final weekday of the 2023 Iowa State Fair and we continue with the last show of the week from the WHO Radio Crystal Studio! Starting off the second hour, Meaghan Anderson from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach joins us to talk about the weed identification contest and her day today getting to enjoy the fair. Iowa Corn Promotion Board President Kelly Nieuwenhuis, Iowa Corn Growers Public Relations Manager Rachel Zumbach, and Washington County Farmer Keith Hora join us in studio on Iowa Corn Day at the Iowa State Fair with a look at what they have going on across Grand Avenue and the story they want to convey to Fairgoers about the corn industry. We have a wonderful event going on in front of the Crystal Studio today, a blood drive with Life Serve Blood Center, and Simon Conway joins us with more info. 4-H Reporters Garrett Von Stein and Casey Leerhoff tell us what is happening in the 4-H building today as they are showing visitors how they do their reporting jobs. Kelly Martin from Bottom Floor Prints brings by some of his farm animal 3D-printer creations and tells us about some of the practical applications for 3D printing. An FFA student from Eastern Iowa comes in to tell us about the trailer he worked on for his FFA project. Andrew Wheeler from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation closes out our run of shows from the Fair with some praise for all of the great work the youth has done at this week's Fair but warns about the shortage of Ag Education teachers in Iowa.

It's our last day of The Big Show from the WHO Radio Crystal Studio! We hear from another one of our FFA Tractor Restoration participants to begin the show. Three North Polk FFA students tell us about their favorite Avenue of Breeds animal and what it has been like to show them to people from bigger cities that don't get to interact much with agriculture. The Iowa Turkey Federation stops by telling us about the food they have at this year's Fair. FFA State Officers Lauren and Jaydee extend their thanks to those who have helped them make everything they do at the Fair possible. Justin from Davis County Cattlemen brings us some burgers from the Cattlemen's Beef Quarters where his County Cattlemen group is helping serve the food today! It's Iowa Corn Day at the Iowa State Fair and to celebrate, Scott Carlson from the Iowa Craft Beer Tent brings in two Iowa beers made using Iowa corn! Jake Handlos from Capital City Kubota tells us about their products on display at the fair including the one that the Big Show guys are riding around in. The Grand Champion Hampshire Sow shower, Anna from Cambridge, tells us about her experience showing and will be doing at the Animal Learning Center tomorrow. To end the hour Brian Waddingham from the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers gives us some information about who should be getting in touch with them for assistance in their livestock operation. He also talks about their sponsorship of the Avenue of Breeds and last weekend's broadcast of the Governor's Charity Steer Show on 1040 WHO!

It's also Century and Heritage Family Farm Day at the Fair and the Leo Garbes Family Farm, a Century Farm award recipient today, join us to start the hour talking about their family farming history. Iowa FFAE State Officers Emma Humphreys and Annabelle Newton fill us in on their events today including participating in the Century/Heritage Farm Award presentations. Kelly from Center Grove Orchard and the Iowa Specialty Crop Producers tells us about the creation of their Top 10 New Food, the A-Hootenanny! One of our past Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award Winners, pork producer Dave Struthers from Collins, IA, tells us about what he's doing with the Soybean Association at the Fair and gives an update on conditions at his farm. We wrap up the day with another one of our Heritage Farm Award recipients from Black Hawk County; with us courtesy of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation.

Today's Big Show begins with Bob Quinn standing out in front of the Crystal Studio with an FFA Tractor Restoration competitor with his 1947 Massey-Harris. Doug Pullin from the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement tells us about their Sale of Champions and some of the scholarships they award to some kids involved in ag. Today is Century and Heritage Farm award presentation day at the Fair and the Hora Family joins us today to talk about the history of the farm that's been in their family for 150 years. Bob Howard from Country View Dairy in Hawkeye, IA talks with us about their yogurt and the product they have available at the Dairy Barn. The Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers' Kody Havens gives us some information on how they help livestock producers around Iowa including interpreting the 200-plus pages of rules and regulations. Two representatives from the Pork Tent join us, past Iowa Pork Producers President Dave Moody and IPPA Consumer Outreach Director Hannah Spurr, making our mouths water with a conversation about what's cooking at the new Pork Tent on the East end of Grand Avenue.

We continue on this Wednesday at the 2023 Iowa State Fair live from the WHO Radio Crystal Studio! We start the hour outside the Crystal Studio with an FFA Tractor Restoration competitor showing off his 1985 Allis-Chalmers 8070. Two of our FFA State Officers join us inside the Studio to inform us about Iowa FFA Today and the FFA Grandstand Usher program. Two of the North Polk FFA members helping with the Avenue of Breeds tell us about their favorite animals there for viewing at the Southwest corner of the Fairgrounds. Bob catches up with former Iowa State Fair Queen Hailey Swan, now working with 4-H Reporters, as well as two of the reporters for 4-H: Samantha Wilbur and Emma Deppe. A representative from the Turkey Federation tells us about the new building they have just East of the Varied Industries Building. We wrap up with Marrissa from Wolfe Eye Clinic who is at Farm Bureau Park today doing hearing and glaucoma tests.
