The guys are back from break to talk about Martin Scorsese's 1990 classic mobster flick Goodfellas. The film blurs the lines between fact and fiction to the point where its real-life subject Henry Hill (played by, in the role of his lifetime, Ray Liotta) said it was almost 100% true. The guys break down the strange lure of Liotta and a career made on this role and roles like it as well as the twisted humor of the film's most violent character, Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) and the understated performance of Robert De Niro as Jimmy Conway. For all of the over-the-top violence and gangster grandiosity, the guys agree that the craziest part of the film is easily those actors playing 21- and 28-year old men, but the joy of the film isn't affected. They also pick their own Wiseguy nicknames and prison jobs and discuss the vacations that kept them away for three weeks.

The guys discuss Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal. They break down the film's elements of life and death as well as its takedown of organized religion, and discuss the legacy that it ultimately holds as one of the most well-regarded pieces of art in the film canon. The Seventh Seal personifies Death (portrayed by Bengt Ekerot) in a way that brings the supernatural and the human together in a harrowing way for the film's characters - particularly for the agnostic hero knight Antonius Block (Max von Sydow) - but Bergman's statement seems to be one of positivity in the fate of humanity regardless. The guys also discuss the games in which they would challenge Death, a cause that would get them crusading, and the ideal final feast.

The guys talk Steven Soderbergh's breakthrough debut feature Sex, Lies, and Videotape, starring Andie MacDowell, James Spader, Peter Gallagher, and Laura San Giacomo. They break down the way the film uses a cultural taboo like sex to show the ways humans do or don't expose truths about themselves to one another, and more specifically the way that Soderbergh's 1989 film examines communication between people through the different relationships between the two characters. The film is a stunning work of art, both visually and thematically, and the guys discuss what Sex, Lies, and Videotape meant for film as a whole upon its release. Also, they put themselves in the characters' shoes for a minute and discuss summer vacation plans.

The guys dig into the world of romantic comedies with the one that started them all, Woody Allen's 1977 film Annie Hall. They discuss the interesting ways that Allen examines memory through his character of Alvy Singer, what the film might be saying about the different ways to not only look at art but the world itself - Alvy's cynical over-analysis or the titular Annie (played by Diane Keaton) and her wide-eyed wonder, and the power of a great montage. The film pioneered an entire genre and probably did it better than it's been done since, but the inevitable conundrum of Annie Hall's having ousted Star Wars for the 1977 Best Picture Academy Award might cloud some judgment about "what movies are all about." The guys also dig into their own dating histories and think about what movie characters besides Annie might be their soul mates.

In the first very special Midnight Showing episode, the guys reflect back on seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron in theatres last weekend, reliving the experience from preparation to post-credits. Joss Whedon left the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a bang, and the guys talk about what's next for the Avengers specifically and the Marvel world as a whole in this film's wake, as well as break down the film itself. A huge part of what makes these films so special is the experience of getting out to the theatre and being with people who are excited about it, so as much as the film is brought to the table, the moviegoing experience is examined just as deeply in this episode. In the first group pick episode, the guys talk one of their favorite go-to comedies in 2010's MacGruber, directed by Jorma Taccone. Stemming from a brilliant series of Saturday Night Live skits, Will Forte's MacGruber perfectly parodies B-level action heroes to the point where it's easy to get lost and forget that you're actually watching a comedy. And what a comedy it is. Forte and Kristen Wiig deliver laugh after laugh with smart, witty humor nestled comfortably alongside completely idiotic and even grotesque jokes that might make viewers who are a little uneasy with profanity uncomfortable, but that's right in the Bit Players' wheelhouse. Enjoy as the guys break down just what it is about MacGruber that makes it such a funny movie (and what makes Val Kilmer such a great villain), as well as a game of "Who Said It" and ideas for the sequel.

The guys break down M. Night Shyamalan's 2000 film Unbreakable, his excellently twisted take on the comic book or super hero genre. They look at the film's place in the ranks of not only Shyamalan's films as a catalog but comic book films as a whole, and how the character of Elijah Price (played by Samuel L. Jackson) might have predicted the future in saying that in "mediocre times," the world needs a hero like David Dunn (Bruce Willis). It's certainly fun to hope there are heroes like that out there, and the guys look into their own characters to decide what super powers they might possess in a world where such things exist, who their archenemy would be, and talk about big summer blockbusters that they're excited for.

This week, the guys discuss Richard Linklater's seminal 1993 coming-of-age film Dazed and Confused, talking about what exactly it is about the film that has placed it firmly in the company of the most classic films to come out of the '90s. They look at the way that the character of Wooderson came to shape the career of Matthew McConaughey and wonder how much of that character is Wooderson and how much of him is Matt Mac himself, Linklater's vision of humanity that perfectly depicts what it's like to be a young, vulnerable high schooler just looking for acceptance, and think about how a film so steeped in simpler times will hold up with future generations. The film has a real sense of nostalgia attached to it, so they also revisit their own high school experiences, recalling the worst times they were ever busted for partying by their parents and reminiscing about the when they met each other, way back when.

This week, the guys talk about David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia. They explore not only the grand visual spectacle that Lean was able to capture and turn into a massive success at a brisk four hours, but the way that Peter O'Toole was able to deliver such a nuanced and dynamic performance that charts T.E. Lawrence's life through a sea of self-doubt from eccentric mapmaker to megalomaniac demi-god over the course of the film, and the implications that the performance has as a statement on the nature of man and destiny. The guys have a great time discussing a virtually unanimous classic and come to find that they might not all feel the same about it. Also, they reveal what their own desert mirages would be and the worst places to find sand after a sandy adventure like ol' Larry's.

The guys talk Steven Spielberg's subversive 1977 blockbuster Close Encounters of the Third Kind, touching on the depiction of the impossibility of human communication and the nature of total obsession through the main character Roy (played by Richard Dreyfuss) and his unstoppable quest to "know if [he] is right," even at the cost of his family. Is he a hero for his childlike wonder or just a complete dirtbag? They try to make some sense of this endlessly perplexing question, as well as talk some of their own preferences should they be abducted by a UFO, from the song that would lure them to the ship to the choice of snacks onboard.
