The Blacksmith's Furnace

It's the full furnace in full effect for the first time in the new year!

Robert wanted to talk Romance in the Bible vs romance now so we took it there, long before the love month of February in this episode.

We talk how romantic love was displayed in the bible and what it looks like now and effectively where, if at all, we can be better

Definitely a fun one for the books especially with Robert taking an extremely spicy turn in the hot seat during Sorry Not Sorry.

We of course all had some hookups for you as well, Mo suggested checking out an Instagram account he's been working with call @Joeybeardless

Rob suggested checking out a netflix series called YOU check it out here

The heavy Hitters in full attendance in today's first full episode of the year. Robert couldn't make it unfortunately but we tried our best to hold it down!

It was one for one bombs traded for Sorry Not Sorry discussing calling out churches for bad doctrine and female leadership in the church.

Yeah we started off spicy!!!

For our Hookups

Mo suggested getting a bible reading plan, any, bible reading plan and cited how useful it is in keeping you consistent with the word!

Peter also suggested the first book he's reading this year Mary Magdalene never wore blue eyeshadow

Welcome to the very last episode of the year, and the decade.

With Robert in Ghana, it's the heavy hitters reporting for duty joined by the absolutely lovely and incredibly insightful Jemz.

Sorry not sorry was a bit of a wild West situation with everyone taking a turn in the hot seat!

With the decade nearly over, instead of just looking at the next year, or decade as we normally would around this time, we chose to look at what we want our legacies to be.

We especially considered how this would flesh out for our kids and it was indeed some very reflective conversation.

Of course, in talking about leaving something behind we couldn't leave the episode without leaving some final hookups.

Jems wanted to leave you all with the thought to write a letter, the gesture, she's found, can be a refreshing reminder to folk that you care and can take the time to dedicate some thought to them!

So write someone a letter soon!

Mo suggested checking a old favourite of the podcast, Khalil Gibran's The Prophet, definitely a piece of his incredible legacy this has been a book that's certainly affected a lot of us.

Check it out here

The Prophet [https://g.co/kgs/etzadw](https://g.co/kgs/etzadw)

And in speaking about books that have affected us, Peter suggested, again, commiting to reading the entire Bible again next year with one of the podcasts from. The Daily Audio Bible community, it'll be his second year in a row going through the entire Bible and with a new year beginning it's a perfect opportunity to subscribe to one of their various themes and spend a little time in the Bible each day for the next year

In all fairness today's episode was mostly sorry not sorry then a brief introduction to our "money stories" and how we think our first formative experiences with money shaped how we treat it.

The full furnace was in full fiery effect and it certainly got heated in the episode

Of course we also have some hookups for the great listeners,

Mo suggested a book by Tim keller, Counterfeit Gods which addresses some of the concepts around the idols we create for ourselves

Check it out here

Peter suggested a new audio drama podcast by Gimlet called MotherHacker which is, in summary, about a mother who gets hacked and then recruited by the hacker to hack others.

Check it out here

Robert suggests checking out the Love hour by Kev on stage and his wife, which is the youtube podcast that inspired today's conversation.

Welcome, once more , to the Furnace. In this week's episode Mo takes the hot seat during Sorry not Sorry, he talks the spirituality of mental health and the Mystery of the divinity and humanity of Christ

We then go on to talk about the recent election results and the cycle of being surprised by such results in a time where information is more accessible that it has ever been.

For the hookups

MO suggested checking out a Netflix anime series called the Samurai 7 , check it out here [https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/70205019](https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/70205019)

Rob hooked us up with a book by A W Tozer called the knowledge of the Holy, check it out here [https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1548381934/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_vmQ9DbFJ31YYK](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1548381934/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_vmQ9DbFJ31YYK)

And lastly peter suggested downloading the Google news app and being intentional about selecting all the sources so you are at least given a more well rounded overview of what is actually going on instead of curating the news to only those sources you already agree with.

Find it in your app store

We hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing, and if you don't, please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing. Peter took a turn in the hot seat and what a fun sorry not sorry segment , we discuss revelations and Job in some specific detail and Peter definitely had fun with it.

We then went on to talk about how little accountability there is in the church regarding the words we sing during worship! It was a good conversation that really addresses our hearts towards God and our sincerity and seriousness about worshiping him.

Side note little Leia joined us in the background and so you might hear her singing along to a video she was watching while we were recording

For our hookups Peter Suggested a new podcast he found created by the Humble beast rapper propaganda and his wife, anyone who knows Prop's music knows he's and intellectual, and an activist and he brings these interests to the podcast and it certainly makes for an interesting pair

check out the Red Couch podcast wherever you listen to podcasts

Mo suggested, like a Nintendo brain washed Luigi avatar, getting the new Nintendo switch gaming console Peter was less than enthused.

Rob suggested checking out a cake stand manufacturer called Surprise cake, I'd tell you where they're about but it would ruin the surprise

Check out them out here [https://surprisecake.com/](https://surprisecake.com/)

The Rock and the Rockstar in attendance today bringing the fire to the Furnace!

In today's episode we take another look at the upcoming elections but this time with a much more focused look at how this all affects the black community and black Christians more specifically.

Now in order to get this done properly we reached out to the guys over on the Black Berea podcast whose main focus is actually black Christianity. They were gracious enough to agree and sent the inimitable @Marypromise who joined us on today's episode and brought a very interesting perspective and some Berean style biblical knowledge to our conversation.

we hit on all the major talking points from how our community engages with politics in this country to whether things like Weed and Prostitution should be legalised and regulated by the government.

Of course we also had some hookups for you, Robert suggested a book he's using called kakeibo which is a "budgeting" book that uses a Japanese style of saving to help you get into the habit of doing so, check that out here

Peter came with a public service announcement advising people take their digital security very seriously and switch on 2 factor authentication wherever they can

and Mary suggested checking out the Challies reading challenge that challenges participants to reading a book every week, month, or couple of days . It definitely sounds like fun and if one of your new year resolutions will be to start reading more this will definitely be a great way to help you get there.

This was this years list

https://www.challies.com/resources/the-2019-christian-reading-challenge/

Massive massive thanks to the guys over at the Black Berea podcast make sure you check them out, and we al exceedingly grateful to Mary for taking the time and making the trip down and blessing us with her presence and insight.

We hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing, and if you don't, please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing. Before 2016, in all honesty, I didn't even know what a referendum was, Cut to 2019 and the country is still in a right mess following the surprising decision to leave the European union, and consequentially the coining of the infamous term Brexit!

In the 3 years that followed we've been through 3 Prime Ministers and we're now on the verge of choosing a 4th, and quite literally desperate to help the people make the right choice, the Furnace brings you the Election special.

Now granted none of the furnace members are particularly politically minded we saw fit to get a couple of young voices who are.

Enter Stage left, friend of the podcast Vincent Anane Nimoh (@ananenimoh) and the lovely Celine Henry (@celinea_henry)

Vincent has been a member of the labour party for a few years now and Celine is a self described apathetic voter leaning toward conservative ideas, and they joined me to try and breakdown the policies and promises of the leading parties to help inform your decision when you cast your vote.

We are especially grateful for the time and for the wealth of information they brought to the conversation

We hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing, and if you don't, please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing. We're big believers in the "win-win"Take care and stay blessed.Special thanks to RUDE (@itsrudeboy) for the intro and outro music. And to Calvin A Turner founder of Torra Media (facebook , @torramedia) and digital designer extraordinaire for [TheOrdinaryAmazing.com](http://theordinaryamazing.com/) logo design.

A full furnace once more reporting for duty!

This week Peter volunteered his behind for the hot seat, and it gets pretty intense pretty quickly discussing, failed leadership in church and how to know your interpretation of the Bible is correct.

Then we moved onto the topic of Virginity and it's worth in today's society, we're pretty late to the party, but this is following well known hip hop rapper Tip "TI" Harris bragging about taking his daughter to the doctor to check her hymen is still intact on a monthly basis.

We felt he's suffered enough backlash but we wanted to address the topic as men and fathers in today's society.

For our Hookups there were a few

Mo suggested a couple of things: The first was a new album by Krept and Konan check that out here

and to balance out the secular in his life he also suggested an oldie but a goldie in Sho baracka's mixtape barakaology

Check that out here:

Robert suggested a game for the nitendo switch that's pretty useful for keeping physically fit using the console check out Ring Fit Adventure here:

and Lastly Peter had three separate hookups he was particularly excited about

The first was a new podcast he's been enjoying called The bible binge, it's a podcast that reviews biblical stories as though they were episodes of a show or a movie

check them out here

Secondly He announced a new podcast from The Ordinary Amazing called, you guessed it, The Ordinary Amazing Podcast, this will be like a weekly newsletter of everything going on on the blog, and he's especially excited about sharing more poetry on there coming soon!

and lastly He announced another podcast that he's editing and producing called the Reason To Behold Podcasts, this is the podcast of Arnold Reasons and Tolu Talks, two black professionals who talk lifestyle christianity and how that plays out in their varied sphere's of influence, it's a project Peter's extremely excited to be a part of and you can find them on soundcloud or wherever you listen podcasts just by searching for and subscribing to the Reason To Behold Podcast
