Miami Marlins - The Miami Marlins have found 17 players and staff that have popped positive for Covid-19. All of the Marlins games have been postponed until at least Sunday while they check the rest of the players and staff. This brings to mind the ability to have around 30 players in reserve to be able to step up in any role possible. Per Buster Olney, he states “MLB shouldn't worry if some teams play 55 games, others 59 or 60. Just go by winning percentage. Something they did after the 1981 strike. ”What do you think about this being the norm for the season.

Justin Verlander to be shut down for a couple of weeks because of a forearm strain. Some media outlets reported he was lost for the season, Verlander came back later that day and clarified, he would be back this season.
Corey Kluber is done for a month as well with a back strain, pitched a total of ONE inning for the rangers - his new team. Might be damaged goods, seems like he is getting hurt a lot lately.
Daniel Bard had not pitched in an MLB Game in 2,646 days! Finally got his 1st win SINCE May 29th, 2012 for the Colorado Rockies. Congrats to Bard

HEARTBREAKING ANGELS … Off to a slow start, what a surprise. Trout did not HR in the first game of the season as predicted by Brent who says, “He kills Seattle and Felix Hernandez on opening day” … when they were facing the Oakland A’s = whom King Felix does not play for. Things got worse as they became the first team to lose in extra innings with the new runner at 2nd base rule, thanks to a base running blunder by Shohei - not that it would have mattered since Matt Olson hit a walk-off grand slam the next inning. Speaking of Ohtani, he had arguably the worst first start of the season in MLB history. Did not record a single out for his once a week start. Now the Trout has gone fishing for who knows how long, since the birth of his son.

Given how bad the Angels have started this season, does he bother coming back? Where doe the Angels go from here? That bullpen is pretty bad, SP has all this potential but can they live up to the hype?

DODGERS VS. ASStros - lives up to the hype. The real LA team has gotten off to a solid start as expected going 5-2 and most importantly swept the two game series against the cheaters. In the first game of the series Joe Kelly threw behind Bregman in a 3-0 count and then nearly hit Correa with a slider. He went on to finish off the inning by striking Correa out on a wicked curveball. For some reason Correa took exception to nearly being hit by a slider. Then proceeded to instigate Joe Kelly as he walked back to the dugout. Joe Kelly then had two legendary facial reactions to Correa that will forever live in meme history. Kelly followed that up by saying, “Nice swing Bitch.”5240-??

Notes to take into consideration:
When Kelly went to cover the bag on a possible double play. Someone from the AssTros can cleary be heard saying, “get back on the mound little fucker.”
Dusty baker took exception with Kelly calling Correa a bitch but had no problem with one of his players calling him a Fucker?
The AssCans went to the Dodgers bench, starting with Correa. Kelly was going to his bench and didn’t say anything until Correa began chirping.

Joe Kelly suspension - Dodgers Reliever Joe Kelly has been suspended 8 games. MLB referred to Kelly’s past history with “intentional throwing”, ei the fastball that “buzzed” Alex Bregman and his taunting of Carlos Correa. I find it interesting that one of the things they sighted in the suspension was “taunting” but nothing was done to the players who were chirping from the dugout and or to Correa that continued to chirp at Kelly as he walked off the field. For those of you who haven't heard the “dugout talk” check out Jomboy Media on FB or IG and he breaks down the whole event. Just doesn't make any sense. It makes it look like the league is protecting the ASStros. Nomar Garcia-para goes OFF on the league!

SUSPENSION: Kelly was suspended for 8 games, equivalent to 20-22 games in a regular season. The harshest punishment ever assessed for NOT hitting someone in a game.
Kelly got a harsher punishment for throwing, not hitting, an ASStro - than they did for CHEATING their way to a title.
Normar put it perfectly, if MLB had done the right thing and vacated the title none of this would have happened. Now they are trying to protect cheaters?

WEEK 1 HIGHLIGHTS?
The other Bieber … Shane a SP for the Cleveland Indians has 27 strikeouts in his first two starts of the season.
Stanton appears to be back and healthy hitting some mammoth HR’s.
Marlins catch a case of the COVID and sends MLB into a damage control frenzy
Canceling games around the league, since they caught it at the Phillies Club House.
I believe a Philly Player and Coach has since tested positive for it as well.

NBA - The chase for the title has resumed.

They kicked off games last night highlighted by the night cap of Lakers vs. Clippers.
This game had everything you could want:
Probably the two best teams in the West going heads up.
Davis with 30+ Lakers and George with 30+ for the Clippers
Final score was 103-101
Came down to the final possession of the game where George tried to get a foul call behind the three point line on LeBron.
Prior to that Gorge had hit a nice 3 to tie the game and James responded with a luck basket as he took a poor shot, it hit the rim and came right back to him, where he simply got an easy put back layup.
SIDE NOTES:
Prior to the games every player, coach and referee took a knee during the national anthem.
Lots of players have interesting messages on the back of their jerseys instead of their last names.
Although I noticed a lot of Lakers didn’t have it - not sure why.
The bubble is clearly working in the NBA there have been ZERO positive tests.
One coach called the bubble the biggest AAU tournament in the history of basketball.
Donavan Mitchell brought a bullet proof vest with the names of victims written all over it. Giving the press the quote, Am I Next?


NFL
Antonio Brown Suspended for 8 Games by the league for violating NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. That’s like saying Colin Kaprenick was suspended 2 games for not showing up to his showcase - really … who cares? He’s not going to play in the NFL and has already “retired”

MLB is BACK! We had 2 games yesterday, the Nats and the Skankees and the Doyers and the Giants. The early game was called on a count of a monsoon hitting Washington. By the break the Yankees were up 4-1 on the Nats. It was a rain delay… but later on in the evening the game was called and that was the final. Cole looked phenomenal, while Schezer made a few mistakes that the Yankees jumped all over. Gioncarlo Stanton hit the 1st home run of the 2020 season with a 459 ft bomb! How do you feel about them calling the game? Should they have finished off the game at another date? Double header day? With a shortened season, every game, every inning matters. The Nationals had 3 innings taken away. That's 9 chances to get back into the game. What do you think?

KERSHAW GETS SCRATCHED - The Dodgers had to scratch Clayton Kershaw as their opening day starter. Calling up Fire-Baller Dustin May. May became the 1st rookie to start for the boys in blue since Fernando Valenzuela in the 1981 season. On the other side of the bump the Giants biggest news is having the first female coach in the MLB. Alyssa Nakken, is the first female to coach on the field during a major league game. Welcome Alyssa!

BETTS CONTRACT EXTENSION - Also in Dodger News, Mookie Betts and the Dodgers have agreed on a 12 year $380 million dollar contract. $114 million of that will be deferred money which means Mookie will be on that Bobby Bonilla contract.. Getting paid until 2044 when Mookie turns 52. Mookie already earning his money last night, getting into position to score on a bang bang play at home for the go ahead run… even though the dodgers scored 6 more on top of that.. It was quite impressive and he is already paying dividends.

1st DH on the NL side of the group to hit a HR … ?

Expanded Playoffs are happening this season. Top 2 Teams in every division make it along with the 2 best other teams in their respective league. 1 plays 8 , 2 plays 7, etc etc. 1st set of games are best of 3, all 3 of the games will be played at the highest seed home field. Divisional and Championship games will stay the same.

Finally 3 of the proposed pre-season MVP Candidates for the AL are Angels. Trout, Rendon and Otahni.

The Atlanta Braves, hours before their opening day game against the New York Mets, are giving us an example of how playing baseball during a pandemic can quickly turn chaotic.

Boxing -
Iron Mike Tyson is coming out of… what we can only call retirement… to fight an 8 round exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr on Sept 12th. We talked about this a few shows ago, Tyson looks like an animal right now. So i know its just a spectacle but man… I am so going to watch it.



NFL -
The deal is done!! There will be football!!Next year’s salary cap would be no lower than $175m. If revenues are better than expected, it could be higher. If worse, it would have to be accounted for in future years through 2024. But a cap minimum to assure a reasonable floor in 2021 was important to the players.

Washington … Football Team… Now i know it's a temporary name for the team till the official “nickname” is chosen, but all this time.. And THIS is the best you got? What was your favorite name that was rumored? I liked the thought of the Washington Red Tails, after the Tuskegee Airmen, the first all black squadron who fought in WW2.

Name Change imminent for the DC Franchise.
Still have not announced what the name or what names they are closing in on.
Several patents have been filed but nothing concrete.

15 Female employees have come out against the organization with alleged sexual harassment and sexual misconduct posted by the Washington Post. Being named is Mitch Gershman former COO, who routinely berated employees such as Emily Applegate for trivial problems while also complimenting her body. NFL is considering disciplining Washington but is NOT expected to force Daniel Snyder to sell the franchise. Many have cried out for the NFL to remove Snyder for allowing such behavior amongst his executives.

NFL to play at LEAST 1 preseason game after NFLPA Negotiation.

Dallas Cowboys -
Dak and the Cowboys can not come to an agreement on an extension, will play 2020 under the Franchise Tag. Would be a free agent at the end of the year baring the cowboys franchise tagging him again.
Daks Brother Tad calls out Cowboys saying he has never rooted for the Cowboys before they drafted Dak … and may soon not be cheering for them again.
Does this boad well for Dak and the cowboys? Is there a split coming? If they do split or dak gets traded… who do the cowboys go after?

Was signed by the Braves earlier this week on a 1 year deal today has tested positive for the Corona Virus. Braves have since waved the deal, but can revisit the deal once Puig has 2 consecutive negative tests. Other teams who were also interested were the Orioles and the Giants. Will have to wait and see.
So far only 23 out of the 17,949 samples have been positive for all of MLB

Amanda Ribas vs Paige VanZant - Its put up or shut up time for VanZant. She has lost 3 of her last 5 fights and if she wants another big pay day… she needs to show up.. I think they go all 3 rounds and the fight goes to Ribas… VZ has to put an amazing showing to stay in it.

Jessica Andrade Vs Rose Namajunas 2 - The experts are split on this one… as am i.. But i have to give the edge to the always deadly and sneaky Rose N.

Petr Yan Vs Jose Aldo for the Vacated title - Honestly the way Aldo looked in his last fight.. Have to go with Yan.. BUT if its a close fight and it goes to the cards.. I think Aldo takes it bc of who is is… or was..

Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway 2 - Last fight everyone kept waiting for Holloway to flip the switch and get after Volks… Never happened.. So I think he has more to prove this time around..


Jon Jones- Jones was amongst a group of individuals who came to the aid of a man they found laying on the ground in a park barely coherent. The man was suffering from heat exhaustion and the group was able to help the man to some shade and give him water and some food. No authorities or ambulance was called, but he was better by the end of the ordeal… Make sure with the heat everyone you are staying hydrated and make sure to eat.

Players opting out, some of the notable names: David Price and Buster Posey. With other players like Mike Trout and Kris Bryant saying they are not sure it’s a good idea anymore.

Michael Kopech ... opted out, coming off a tommy john season. 24 years old, probably hardest throwing right handed starter in MLB.

Posey on a side note adopted twin girls, part of the reason he is not playing this year.

Let’s not forget Price paid for the Dodgers minor leaguers salaires for the month of June.


Interesting notes: Tampa Bay and Colorado Rockies have both said that they plan to let a select few fans attend games in September if possible. Rules include a maximum of 4 tickets can be purchased and every other row seating.

Oakland A’s - Matt Chapman says about playing with no fans in the stands, “ We’re used to not having too many fans”

Toronto Blue Jays have said that they will fine 750k for being outside of their stadium/hotel bubble this summer?

Ivy League has cancelled ALL live sports until Jan 1.
ACC wont let ANY athletic Competitions until at least Sept 1.

PAC - 12 commish Larry Scott has tested positive for Covid and is self quarantining.

PAC-12 and Big Ten won’t play non-conference games in 2020.

What happens to Notre Dame? Since they are an Independant team? They currently only have 9 games on their schedule after PAC 12 opponents , USC and Stanford, and Wisconsin have cancelled their scheduled games for the 2020 season.

Local JC’s have also gone the same route as of right now.

I’ve read that there are talks about moving the high school fall sports to the winter or spring, and only having varsity levels compete. That would be interesting and tough.

MLB The numbers we need to know -
60/66 - 60 games will be played in 66 days beginning with “opening day” on July 23rd and ending Sept 27th.
40/20 - 40 games will be against divisional opponents/ 20 games will be against interleague opponents ( ie NL West vs AL West only)
5 - How many teams per league will make the playoffs. No change from a standard season.
10 - Starting in the 10th inning, the game will proceed to start with a runner at 2nd base. This is to help move the game along and hopefully kill any 6 hour games. This will NOT however crossover into the post season.
0 - Zero, the number of times a pitcher will come up to bat. With exception to 2 way players (ie Otani-san) The universal DH will be implemented for the season.
2 - The number of “injured lists” ~ 1 for standard baseball injuries and the other for COVID 19 cases. If someone does pop positive for Covid 19 they will be quarantined until 2 subsequent negative tests at least 24 hrs apart before being allowed to come back to the team.
2* - The number of teams of free agent players the league is working on having ready to come in in case there are injuries of any type.
108 - The number of safety regulations to keep players from touching each other except for when they need to be tagged. No high fives, Fistbumps, Hugs and NO licking fingers to get a grip on the ball.

Minor League Baseball has been cancelled for the 2020 season

Players opting to sit out the season - Ryan Zimmerman, Joe Ross, Mike Leake, and Ian Desmond have so far stated - for varying reasons - that they will not be playing this season.

The story of Andrew Toles - Andrew was found sleeping behind the Key West International Airport in Florida a few weeks back. The popular starting outfielder for the LA Dodgers was picked up and arrested. According to his sister Morgan Toles, they were “relieved” he was found. They did not know if he was alive or dead for the last year and a half. Toles has been in and out of at least 20 mental health facilities since 2019 but usually vanishes after only about a week. The family was hoping that he would remain in custody until they were able to be granted guardianship over Toles, however an anonymous person posted the $500 bail setting toles back onto the streets.

MLB Schedules will be released next week … We already know the Dodgers will be playing the AssTros.

NBA - Name replacement options on the back of their jerseys?


Stadium sponsor FedEx asks Redskins to change nickname - FedEx, which has naming rights to the stadium in which the Washington Redskins play, made a request Thursday that the team change its nickname. "We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name," FedEx said in a statement obtained by ESPN.

SIDE EFFECT - Nike Removes Washington Merch from it’s website. Nike appears to have attire for all NFL teams except Washington

On Wednesday, Adweek reported that 87 investors and shareholders, worth a combined $620 billion, sent a letter the previous week to three sponsors -- FedEx, Nike and PepsiCo -- urging them to support a name change for the team. In the past, groups had protested outside stadiums and tried to change the name through the courts. This represented a targeted push at sponsors.

Washington released a statement, “In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team’s name.”


Cleaveland baseball team is ready to discuss changing its name from the Indians.

NFL Reportedly Planning to Play Black National Anthem Before All Week 1 Games
The song, "Lift Ev'ry Voice And Sing," is known as the Black national anthem and would be played before "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Pianist West Byrd and saxophonist Mike Phillips played a portion of "Lift Ev'ry Voice And Sing" during their rendition of the national anthem ahead of NASCAR's Pocono 350 last Sunday.
Cam Newton's Patriots Contract Terms Include Only $550K Guaranteed
The New England Patriots are reportedly taking on very little risk when it comes to the one-year contract they signed quarterback Cam Newton to this week.

MLB WILL FINALLY HAPPEN! - Sort of - Rob Manfred is implementing a schedule for the 2020 season. The MLBPA has informed MLB that they have rejected the agreement developed by Manfred and Tony Clark. Some of the things that were on the board..

$33 Mil in forgiven salary advances that would INCREASE the take home pay of 61% of MLB Players
Overall earnings for players of 104% of prorated salary
Over the Last few days MLB agreed to remove the expanded Postseason in 2021 in order to address player concerns.

In the Rejection MLB Clubs have unanimously voted to proceed with the 2020 season under the terms of the March 26th Agreement. Players to report to camp by July 1st, and the the season should begin end of July. Players to respond by 6/23 at 2pm PT.

Its damn time that this got done, but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth that it got to this. With every other Major Sport finding ways to coincide to bring back their respective sports it has been a mess to see what has become of our beloved game.

NASCAR -
Noose found in Bubba Wallace's garage at Talladega. It was a secure area where access to the area is limited to competitors, officials, and official track staff. On the heels of what NASCAR has tried to accomplish by undisputedly removing the Confederate flag from all NASCAR events both on the track and away from it.

NCAAF -
Mississippi State RB Kylin Hill states he will not suit up for MSU if the Confederate Battle flag is not changed. MLB - Owners come with a 60 game season, FULL pay, expanded playoffs 2020 and 2021, and players are not allowed to file grievances moving forward. MLPBA came back with 70 games, full prorated pay extended playoffs for 20 and 21 with an agreement for resumption of pay with $50M in playoff bonuses and a 50/50 split of NEW postseason TV in 2021. Universal DH and a forgiveness of salary advance for tier I-II players. Season starting July 19th and 20th. ALSO a Universal DH for the next 2 seasons.

Manfred says “ Owners are 100% committed to getting baseball season going, unfortunately I cant tell you that im 100% certain that its going to happen.” Ken Rosenthall and Evan Drellich of the Athletic report that there are more than 8 owners amongst the 30 who do not want the season to take place. BUT they are now seemingly closer to a deal after Manfred and Clark met in person.


Phillies, Blue Jays closing spring training facilities after positive coronavirus tests

The Philadelphia Phillies are closing their spring training facility in Clearwater, Florida, after five players and three staff members tested positive for the coronavirus, the team announced. Sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan that the Toronto Blue Jays also shut down their spring training facility in Dunedin on Thursday after a player exhibited coronavirus symptoms.
*** This can’t be a good sign for negotiations, this was one of the major concerns for both sides. Protection for players and a second wave for owners. WONDER How this will affect an already dicey situation.

NBA - Big questions in the NBA loom.

Will there be an NBA season? VP Kyrie Irving thinks the time to stand right for social activism is now. Thinks there shouldn’t be any basketball played.

Says that the players should/could start their own league.
In a recent chat group with Nets players, Kyrie Irving lobbied for skipping the bubble, the Daily News has learned. In that chat, he also proposed that the players can start their own league
In response to a statement from Irving and Bradley’s coalition that likened the restart plan to a system of “use and abuse,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged the reboot of his sport “won’t be for everyone.”

Players have until June 24 to notify their teams that they’d prefer not to play in Orlando. Irving doesn’t have to because he isn’t going to play either way after undergoing shoulder surgery in March. Players who do not play will forfeit 1/93rd of the money owed to them on their contracts for every game they miss unless they are granted a medical exemption.

Seems like the players are a little divided on this.

MLB - The commissioner’s ability to mandate short season — 48 games would mean 29.6% of pay across board — seems to give MLB some leverage. Union has stated there’s no reason to negotiate anything lower than prorated pay. But maybe they’d do 60 games prorated or 20% paycut over 82? - according to Jon Heyman

First the good news: MLB players will report to spring training even if the owners impose an approximately 50 game schedule. Because of this, people on all sides of the current labor dispute are extremely confident that there will be a 2020 season
Here's more good news. MLB might make another financial offer to players after all, according to sources, despite a belief earlier this week that it would not. The negotiation for a new agreement on pay is not over, and it won't necessarily be limited only to back channels.
And now for the more complicated part of this update: players really do appear ready to stand on principle on receiving full prorated salaries.
Owners are almost certainly still expecting the players to accept a small pay cut beyond the pro-rata structure laid out in their March 26 agreement with the players.
If the owners do somehow agree to pay full prorated salaries for a more palatable number of games, say 70-80, the players remain willing to offer a number of sweeteners: Two years of expanded playoffs. Mic'd up players on MLB Network. Salary deferrals if the coronavirus prevents postseason play. And the players would drop their request for MLB to open its books.
As agent Scott Boras has said publicly, and as many players continue to privately insist, it is unfair for owners to socialize losses after never socializing profits.

Esteban Loaiza - Former Dodger and MLB player was caught with 44 pounds of Cocaine. He is from Tijuana Mexico. At one point he tied Fernando Valenzuela for most victories in a season by a pitcher from Mexico with 21. When he was charged with 3 years of federal prison for Felony Cocaine possession with intent to distribute. Because he is a Resident not a Citizen, when he gets out he will be immediately deported. Laoiza told the court he was broke, with only 4 cars and no property or other money to his name. Friends closest to him say he was broke because his family kept asking him for money.
