On today’s podcast episode, we are going a little off course. I’ve been speaking with small business owners lately, and many of them feel lonely and unsure about their success.
It feels like they should be further along by now, or maybe they feel like quitting. This has been a year where I’ve worked less than ever before, and I’m wondering where the ambitious and driven woman has gone. What do I actually want?

Today’s episode features a conversation with Rebecca Ching. Rebecca is a veteran psychotherapist based in San Diego and has been practicing for over two decades. She is also a leadership coach and has her own podcast, The Unburdened Leader Podcast.
I’ve been working with Rebecca personally for around two years on trauma-informed leadership and looking at my own trauma and how it shows up in my life. She is a great sounding board and someone I can run my ideas by. I’m excited to chat with her today about the intersection of being human and a business owner.
Rebecca is a big believer that entrepreneurs get into meaningful work to heal and work through the hard things they’ve experienced. It’s a feeling that you don’t want someone else to experience what you’ve experienced. There are often creative solutions and ideas that come from pain, plus people often have a high capacity for discomfort (especially females.)
If people struggle with boundaries early on or have a horrible boss or mentor, they learn ways to “suck it up” and push on through. The problem is that it becomes hard to see that energy is draining because it’s become the normal experience. Rebecca views herself as a pattern detector and dot connector and helps people see what they might have overlooked in their own behaviors.

Today’s episode is the third and final in a mini-series about coaching. If you missed the first two, catch up there first. The series was created after I walked into a local networking event and was reminded that the term “coach” can be a put-off for some people due to bad experiences.
I wanted to help you answer some questions to determine if you’re in the right headspace for coaching and cover some of the basics of finding the right coach. In this episode, I also cover the red flags to avoid when selecting a coach. So, let’s dive in.

This podcast episode is the second in a series about coaching. Last week, I discussed when to hire a coach and some things to watch out for when choosing the right person.
Today, it’s all about whether or not you’re coachable and how you can make the best decisions about personal and professional development.
I have a lot of background in coaching. I’ve worked in the coaching industry for two decades. I’ve been a consumer of coaching and have worked with coaches personally for around ten years as well. I will share some of my experiences because they helped me commit and recommit to my values, goals, and purpose.
Coaching has helped me be more consistent and accountable for the things I want to create for myself and for my family. It helps me navigate any fears I’m experiencing and process them in different ways. Each time I’ve worked with a coach, I’ve proven to myself that I can grow and stretch without snapping. It’s about building a deeper self-trust.

Today’s podcast episode is all about coaches, something near and dear to my heart. Over the last ten years, I’ve come across many people calling themselves coaches and hearing lots of opinions about that title. Often, these are internet marketers masquerading as coaches. Coaching is a credible profession, but it’s important to know how to find the right coach and not just a salesperson.
My background includes a lot of coaching for business leaders. I worked at a boutique executive and leadership consulting firm after graduate school. After that, I had a corporate role that was involved in organizational and leadership development. My graduate degree is in industrial organizational psychology, focusing on business and human behavior.
I have experience working with coaches and being a consumer in the coaching industry. I’ve worked with many coaches, sometimes multiple coaches simultaneously. This episode covers certification, the code of ethics, and competencies.
My job is to help small business owners discern what they need for growth and how to avoid wasting any financial resources. I don’t typically talk much about coaching. But I hear about people having poor experiences with coaches, specifically business coaches, and I address it and help them move through those experiences. I want people to learn how to self-coach, and when they do need a coach, I want you to walk into that relationship feeling empowered. So, let’s dive in.

Today’s podcast episode features an interview with Jason Bahamundi. He was one of my first internet friends over ten years ago, and I’m excited to chat with him today. Jason is a pro sales and marketing expert, so I invited him to share his journey and wisdom with the listeners.
We jump into endurance races and what that has to do with entrepreneurship and having a winning sales strategy in a tough economy. I’m so excited to have Jason join me!

Over the last few podcast episodes, I’ve been filling you in on the big changes that have been made over the last few months. Today, I want to tell you what you can expect going forward and how I can support you.
I’m going back to private practice and one-on-one consulting practice. We’ve all heard that a one-on-one business model creates burnout, but I’ve found the opposite in my own experience. It’s easier on my energy and more controllable and manageable. Fewer clients help me thrive. Money is a sensitive topic. By having a smaller roster, I’m able to do deeper coaching with each person.
Groups are scalable, but many seasoned business owners don’t have the time to navigate groups. I will focus on that one-on-one attention and remove the extra noise for them. This will save the time of navigating the curriculum, attending group calls, and searching to find exactly what they are looking for.
I’ve heard feedback over the past year that people showed up on calls but did not want a group program. They’d much rather be working one-on-one, which was the nudge I needed from the universe. I understand that fewer people will be able to work with me in this way because I’ll have limited space, and I’m looking for a specific match in the clients I work with.
I’m keeping the email list and podcast free. In 2024, we have plans to add more free resources or lower price point offerings. By changing my business model to a private one-on-one consulting practice, I’ll have more generous profit margins and naturally feel more generous with my offerings. We will all benefit from this.

On the last episode of the podcast, I shared with listeners that I made the big decision to shut down The Bold Profit Academy. Today, I’m back with Stacey Harris to talk about what I have started to do since making that decision. By sharing my story and my process, I hope it helps anyone listening who might be facing a big decision about their business, even if they aren’t currently offering a group program.
Transparency is good, and this podcast is for people who want to run a business to provide for their family, not someone who is looking to glorify small business ownership. When I made the decision to close down The Bold Profit Academy program after five years of success and revenue, it was panic-inducing, but we are all about the safest ways to take risks.
This episode will cover two things: a framework I relied on while going through this process and some tangible steps I took. Steps are much different than a plan because there are too many variables to call it a plan.

This podcast episode features my business sidekick, Stacey Harris, and we are discussing some big changes in this business. We chat a lot about decision-making and the work that we’ve done over the last few months.
It’s a very exciting episode but filled with a lot of my personal feelings and challenges. If you are considering making some big business decisions, this might feel relatable and give you some questions to ask yourself.
