That is five years that we have been showing up here with the intention of reducing your financial overwhelm, showing you how to make money and generate wealth in a way that is relatable and attainable, to be an advocate for experts getting paid, and really putting some voice out there for those of you who might be frustrated with the lack of open discussion that you're seeing in online business circles around business finance, like the real stuff though beyond the hyped up seven-figure revenue goals. 

Even if these numbers feel aspirational, it is such a distraction to the actual things that need to happen to get you all paid, which is what we're talking about today, cash flow.

This is a common mistake that we make: using terms of revenue and income interchangeably. 

They are not interchangeable.

Are you one of the 73% of Gen X women who say that their financial situation keeps them up at night? That's a staggering number. Of millennials, 77% of them are reporting that they're up at night because of their finances. Those are staggering numbers.

Men tell me that women don't want to learn about financial literacy because it's not sexy enough. Yet when I meet women, and we talk about money, they all say they want to increase their financial literacy. It sounds like one more area that we might be misunderstood in terms of what men think turns women on.

There is so much pressure which can lead to burnout and fatigue. The pressure stems from a good place, like the fear of not getting people you care about results or someone having a bad experience with your program. But there will always be good and bad reviews of businesses because our society is hyper-connected.

So how responsible do business owners need to be for their clients successfully utilizing the product? 

I’ve spent much time unpacking this for myself, so I want to share my exercise with you that has helped. Grab a piece of paper and fold it down the middle. On one side, write down, “What is my responsibility?” and on the other half, write down, “What is not my responsibility?” Then you’ll answer those questions repeatedly, week after week. Answer it on a piece of paper until you come up with the clarity you need.

On today’s podcast, I got to chat with one of my business besties, Michelle Warner. We met in a very large Facebook group back in 2014 or 2015. While all the information was being shared back and forth, we exchanged messages questioning some of the information and sharing some of our expertise. 

Michelle is a business designer and strategist. She believes in the mix of art and science that grows into a business. Most of her work is with businesses that have plateaued or aren’t growing the way they want.

She works to get them to their next plateau or stuck point, but that’s what businesses do, they grow in iterations. Businesses need to find alignment, and Michelle works with business owners to figure out where they are out of alignment and get them back on track. 

I love chatting with Michelle because we both understand that leaving your 9-to-5 is complex and exhausting but also satisfying. Michelle started her first business in 2008 and has been in different versions of tired since then.
