  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 213: Phone calls? Voice memos? Ew, gross.

This week Tess and Meredith discuss phone calls that could be emails, their shared hatred of voice memos, counterfeiters, and your recent answers to the Question of the Day "What seemed harmless to you as a kid that you now look back on in horror?" (You can find this question and many other interesting ones in our original Delve Deck.)

They also share a recent product review and make fun of an Instagram troll before wrapping things up by trading answers to questions from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy editions.

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 212: Have a cursed day!

This week Meredith and Tess discuss curses, the social hierarchy of Hell, and social media marketing. Sounds unrelated, but they are strangely connected!

This leads to a conversation about luck, skill, circumstance, and the cognitive dissonance of people who confuse the three.

Tess shares a fun (and cute!) review from a Boredwalk customer (and their cat), and Meredith reads some enthusiastic comments from Boredwalk's ads, but as we all know you can't appreciate sunshine without a little stormy weather to compare it to. Thankfully the internet has a limitless supply of trolls eager to keep us from getting a big head and yuck everyone else's yum.

Speaking of things that make you go "yum," our hosts move to read and react to fan answers to the recent Question of the Day "What totally legal substance would be toughest for you to give up?"

Sticking with the Q&A theme, they wrap the episode up by trading answers to questions from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy editions. They blow off some steam discussing their thoughts on things that are way more complicated than they should be and then do their best to end things on a high note by sharing which good habits they've been able to stick with.

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 211: Mo' Meta Blues

Meredith and Tess discuss the wrecking ball that Meta (aka the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) has thrown through Boredwalk's operations since the start of 2024 due to its persistently broken and volatile ad platform. This leads to a conversation about the things that Boredwalk is being forced to do to survive, including layoffs and testing the shark-infested waters of selling on Amazon.

To add insult to economic injury, they react to a recent foul-mouthed email our customer service team received from a person who purchased a counterfeit Boredwalk t-shirt from some obviously shady scam website yet somehow was able to figure out what our email address is. Bruh, our website is literally in the email address. So close, yet still so far!

So not only did they give money to a criminal who stole our original art instead of purchasing the authentic product from us directly, but they then decided to yell at us about it. Fun times!

Thankfully, actual customer Serena had very nice things to say about her recent Delve Deck purchase. Unfortunately, non-customer Deb decided it was a good idea to complain on an ad for our activity books that she is allergic to paper and therefore does all HER puzzles and games on her tablet. Cool story, Deb, thank you for sharing!

After a few more dispatches from the land of trolls, our co-hosts reacted to fan responses to the recent Question of the Day "what have you managed to avoid your whole life?"

Answers ranged from having kids to serving on a jury to watching certain wildly popular films. Listen to find out what Meredith and Tess's were!

They then wrap up by trading answers to the Delve Deck Venting & Joy Edition questions "what's your 'not my proudest moment' story?" and "what's a life experience you think everyone should have?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 210: The Matt is back!

This week Tess was joined — at long, long last — by Boredwalk co-founder Matt, who has been MIA on the podcast since mid-December! Unfortunately it was not for something fun, like defending Earth against alien invaders in a space war. No, the cause of his absence was much less interesting and much more boring.

So fair warning — if you have zero interest in hearing him drone on for a few minutes about email and SMS marketing platform migrations and changing product review apps, scrub ahead to minute 4:00!

Tess swoops in to save your earballs with a fun customer review, less fun (but still entertaining!) troll comments, and fan responses to a recent Question of the Day! Last week we asked "what does everyone but you seem to love?" Matt and Tess let their contrarian flags fly in their reactions!

They then wrap up by trading answers to the Delve Deck Venting & Joy Edition questions "what is an article of clothing you just can't pull off no matter how trendy it is?" and "what is your favorite sound?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 209: Culinary cockroaches

This week Meredith & Tess discuss the proposed TikTok divestment and/or ban working its way through Congress but touch on the equally problematic proliferation of AI-generated deep fake photos and videos. Worse living through technology!

This leads into a conversation about the accelerating normalization of general incompetence in the world. Wonderful!

Tess reads a recent glowing review of our Delve Deck conversation cards, and chases it with some troll comments to make sure we don't get too high on ourselves. Mission accomplished, Kolton!

Speaking of the Delve Deck, our hosts move on to read and react to fan responses to the recent Question of the Day that was pulled from the Delve Deck "what frivolous hill are you willing to die on?" Entertaining answers abounded!

They then take a quick break to talk about Boredwalk's forthcoming spring release and the manufacturing headaches that have gone along with it before wrapping up by trading answers to the Delve Deck Venting & Joy Edition questions "what do other people find romantic that doesn't impress you?" and "what is at the top of your bucket list?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 208: Bad vibes only

Meredith & Tess discuss gross eHarmony ads, Boredwalk's most recent burglary, ineffective law enforcement, and the general bad vibes swirling around Boredwalk for the last several months.

They also debate which is more powerful: capitalism or misogyny? Meredith is pretty sure it's misogyny and lays out why, and Tess supports this with some first-hand experiences working on ads for some of the worst companies on the internet.

They then check in with the internet troll contingent, and the trolls did not disappoint.

Thankfully, Karen left a 5-star review for her new Grievance Journal, which helped the troll pills go down a bit easier.

Our co-hosts move on to reacting to fan answers to the Question of the Day "what fragrance do others like that you can't stand?" and patchouli was the runaway 'winner' among fans, but Tess & Meredith had their own strong opinions on this question.

They wrap things up by trading answers to the Delve Deck Venting and Joy Edition questions "what problem can you not believe technology hasn't solved yet?" and "what's your favorite guilty pleasure right now?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 207: Dispatches from the Tortured Small Business Owners Department

This week Meredith and Gabe discuss the heroes and trolls that alternately praise and vilify Boredwalk on the internet.

This leads to an interesting conversation about the cognitive dissonance between the forms of creative work that are deemed acceptable to monetize and those that are not (See: Taylor Swift's forthcoming album The Tortured Poets Department and Boredwalk's Grievance Journal) and how social media platforms pay for themselves in a broader sense (See: running ads for products like Boredwalk's Grievance Journal).

Our co-hosts move on to reacting to fan answers to the Question of the Day — pulled from the Delve Deck, yet another craven example of corporate monetization from our evil, bloated 10-person company — "what is the most underwhelming tourist trap you've ever seen?"

Responses ranged from newer weird regional roadside attractions in the U.S. to critically and culturally revered classic artworks.

Then Gabe & Meredith chime in with their own thoughts on the worst tourist traps they've encountered.

They wrap things up by trading answers to the Delve Deck Venting and Joy Edition questions "what is a problem you never seem to be able to solve?" and "what's your favorite sound?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 206: (Mis)adventures in the abyss

This week Meredith & Tess lament the soggy L.A. weather reflecting the generally cursed vibe of 2024 thus far. Turns out targeted social media ads and organic content are no help in this regard! Just an endless doom scroll of posts about war-torn Gaza and Ukraine, endangered & neglected animals, and environmental catastrophe. What fun!

This discussion of the present dystopia leads to them pondering whether or not they are actually in Hell and curiosity as to what each of them did in their past lives to warrant such torment.

Fittingly, Tess lightens the mood with a 5-star review of Boredwalk's darkly humorous dystopian activity book Adventures in the Abyss. If you can't leave the hellscape, you may as well laugh at it, right?

Things have been mercifully subdued on the internet troll front, but that is largely to do with social media platform shenanigans on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, which Meredith explains in an exasperated but amusing fashion.

Moving along, Tess reads fan responses to our recent Question of the Day "What life experience drastically changed your thinking on something?" and she and Meredith share their own answers. Strap in, because it gets deep!

They wrap up by trading questions & answers from the Venting and Joy editions of the Delve Deck! First they respond to the query "What is your least favorite home decor trend?" and then close things out with "What have you watched recently that you can't stop recommending?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 205: Pint-sized fruit pushers

Meredith & Tess revel in Taylor Swift's ruination of the Super Bowl for fragile men!

Tess then plots what she is going to do with the preposterous amount of grapefruit her partner Trevor was scammed into purchasing by his ex-coworker's child. Meredith is dealing with the same issue, but with lemons, and instead of an annoying child it is Mother Nature herself doing the scamming by virtue of the lemon tree in her yard.

Moving on, Tess reads a nice review from a customer raving about her Lurk Laugh Loathe hoodie. Yay! However, then we get a visit from the land of trolls — always an interesting peek into the psyches of idiots.

Tess then reads fan responses to the recent Question of the Day "What do people often wrongly assume about you?" before providing her own answers. That's right, answers plural! Tess contains multitudes! Meredith chimes in with her own. Interestingly, both of their answers deal with their respective heights and the assumptions people make based on their size!

They wrap up by trading answers to the Delve Deck questions "where is the most annoying place to go?" and "if you could wave a magic wand and make something more popular, what would you choose?"

  • The Boredwalk Podcast Episode 204: Insect Abattoir

Meredith & Tess pay tribute to the weekly insect mass grave that keeps appearing in the same spot of our recording studio. This sparks debate on whether the cause is scientific or supernatural in origin. Opinions are split!

Tess shares a review of Boredwalk's Good Company guest book, which sparks a discussion about marketing fails. This leads into a fun dissection of recent troll comments — delightful!

They then react to fan response to the recent Question of the Day "what is your favorite emotion?" before sharing their own answers.

The episode wraps up with a rant from Tess about commercial audition requirements before she and Meredith trade answers to questions from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy Editions: "What ruined an enjoyable hobby for you?" and "what is your favorite memory?" Meredith talks about the conundrum of being a feminist horror fan, and Tess reveals her best concert-going experience ever — and it shockingly was NOT opening night of Taylor Swift's Eras tour!
