This episode is one of the hardest episodes to do for us at the boring bible podcast. The idea of holy war has been manipulated to the point that it's been used to justify some really terrible actions in the world. Today, Noah and Ashley dive into the world of the Israelites and talk about God's command to put all the nations in the land they are entering, under the ban (herem in Hebrew). It's a hard and sad story and we invite you this week to come at this text with humility.

Have you ever been frustrated with the church for not acting out on the commands of Jesus? Today, Ashley and Noah unpack the reasons for following the law and what the Old Testament Jews could hope in when following the law. This week Noah and Ashley dive into the Ten Commandments as Moses reminds the people of Israel about the commands he gave them at Mount Sinai. Since the ten commandments are so important to the Bible, Noah and Ashley cover a lot of ground with these laws, showing everyone that they are more important than at first glance. They profoundly impact how we are to treat others and God. 

Join us for this long journey through chapter 4 of Deuteronomy. Noah and Ashley have loads to talk about in this episode making it the longest episode we've ever done here on the podcast. It's a powerful chapter that is filled with deep significance all over the Bible. This is where a lot of themes that come into full bloom in the New Testament begin. This is our last episode for the historical recap section in the book of Deuteronomy. We spend time talking about Holy War and how to handle difficult passages in the Bible as well as looking at the topic of anger in the character of Moses. It's another episode full of different thoughts that Ashley and Noah bring to this passage finishing off this historical recap with loads to think about going into the next week.

We are back for Season 2! This season we dive head first into the world of the Pentateuch, with the final installment. Deuteronomy is often overlooked in the Bible as a book which serves only to recapitulate the laws of Leviticus and Numbers. As we dive into this first chapter we are going to hear how that's not entirely true. Today, Noah and Ashley walk through the historical recap that Moses gives to the people of God, a new generation of people whose fathers failed to trust in God. Moses starts off this book as a marker to this new generation to not follow in the ways of their fathers, but to remember the history of their people as a starting point for their faith. Join us as we also remember the events of the past and allow it to give us faith today as well.
