The Bottom Shelf

In August the crew went to Geek’d Con in Shreveport, LA. While on the con floor they walked around asking folks one simple question… What’s one bad movie that you secretly love… Let’s see what con goers had to say!

While you were sleeping back in 2018, Jon Turteltaub thought he had a national treasure on his hands that would cause people to stay home from the beach… he had, The Meg. Join the crew and special guests, Katherine (Squid) Czerwinski and Ren Michele as they ask the question; Was the instinct of critics wrong and this film was truly a phenomenon? Or does it actually belong on… The Bottom Shelf…”

In 1975, Steven Spielberg made moviegoers afraid of going into the water with his thriller, Jaws. Since then, the film industry has time after time to capture that same feeling with various shark movies. In 2010 Decian Obrien asked himself this one question… “what if I combined a shark with an octopus?” That is how we got Sharktopus. Join the crew and special guests, Katherine (Squid) Czerwinski and Ren Michele as they ask the question; “is this film better than what critics say? Or does it truly belong; on the bottom shelf?”

In 1997, a movie about a group of warriors who had 6 days to save to world was released to the silver screen. Unfortunately movie reviewers felt like the film took 6 days to produce and took 6 days to forget how much money they wasted watching it. What was this movie?  Mortal Kombat Annihilation.  Is it possible that this sequel film is better than what the critics say? Or does it truly belong; on the bottoms shelf?

In 1996 the Arcade Classic, Mortal Kombat came to the silver screen with mixed emotions. Is this film one worth watching or does it belong on the bottom shelf?

In 1988, John De Bello brought Anthony Starke and George Clooney into his vision of humanoid tomatoes.  But is the Return of the Killer Tomatoes better than what people say? Or does it truly belong on the Bottom Shelf?

In 1978 the world faced a great danger. Villainous grouping of the mature ovary of a flowering plant that is edible decided to turn the food chain on it’s head… Tomatoes were out for blood. At least that’s what John De Bello wanted us to think in his film, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Is this low budget film better than what people say? Or does it truly belong on The Bottom Shelf?

This week on The Bottom Shelf, we’d like to share a cross over episode of Comm Talk by Geek Devotions; Branson joins Dallas to examine the 1989 failed pilot episode, Pryde of the X-Men. Was this a missed opportunity for a great animated X-Men series? Or does it honestly belong, on the bottom shelf?

In 1989 Dolph Lundgren took on the role as Frank Castle…the Punisher. Critics say it was a rocky start, but could it be that this version of Frank is a Universal Soldier? Join us as our crew attempts to find out if this film is a blackjack when it comes to movies, or if it truly belongs on… The Bottom Shelf.
