Over the past decade, Islam has grown in Europe. By 2020, there were about 46 million Muslims in Europe, making up roughly 6 percent of the total population, up from just under 5 percent in 2010. This growth came mainly from migration, especially between 2010 and 2016, and from higher birth rates. Along with the population growth, in the past decade Western Europe has seen Muslims increase their political participation. While the growth in influence is gradual, more Islam background politicians are joining mainstream parties in countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands. Social networks within the Islamic community are helping boost civic engagement.

There is a Christian framework that has described this expansion of the Islamic religion. It is spoken of in 3 phases, and Western Europe would generally be seen as being in the third phase. The first phase was the early expansion after the 7th century, the second was the medieval period of Islamic rule in places like Moorish Spain, and the third phase is often seen as the modern spread via migration, cultural exchange, and global interconnectedness. So, in that sense, Western Europe would be in this contemporary, third phase of interaction and growth.

In the United States, the Islamic religion has reached a population of about 5.5 million, making up roughly 1.6% of the US population. This growth is driven by immigration, higher birth rates compared to the typical American, and conversions to the religion. The growth has been steady, and the community is becoming more visibly politically active. The United States would by some standards be considered in the Third Phase of expansion, but it also just shows signs of being in the First Phase.

Those who believe in the Third Phase of expansion express this timeline of effects. The First Phase was the early Islamic presence during trade and early immigration. The Second Phase was a steady presence in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and now the Third Phase is the rapid expansion since the late 20th century. This expansion is being fueled by immigration, birth rates, and growing visibility in public life and institutions. Those who believe in just the First Phase of expansion see the lack of historical milestones, and Islam is still a small segment or specialty group.

If we are to view specifically Western Europe as a example of the Islam expansion capabilities, then we also still need to be cautiously aware. Western Europe is expected to have significant growth over just the next 25 years. Islam makes up roughly 6% of the population in Western Europe currently, and that is expected to rise to at least about 8% and a max of 12%. That would increase to Islam population from roughly 15 million as a minimum currently to 25 million minimum by 2050.

Now, using these same projection methods or expectations, we should expect the same roughly 10 million people in growth here in the United States. So, by 2050, the Islamic population would be at roughly 15 million minimum and possibly up to 20 million depending on birth rates and continuing conversion rates. Taking into consideration places like Sub-Saharan Africa, which now has an Islamic population of about 368 million, growing to that amount from 275 million in just 1 decade between 2010 and 2020, that makes this crisis for the United States even more extremely obvious.

These research numbers are painting a clear picture in my heart and mind. I hope they will bring forth a clearer reality for You concerning this situation at hand!!

Now let’s dive into some theology so you can understand the definitive differences, particularly between Islam and the Christian religion.

In Islamic tradition, yes, Ishmael is considered an important patriarch, and later Muhammad is seen as the final prophet who brought the religion organization, or one may say, into its final/current form. Similarly, in Christianity, Jesus is considered the foundation, and the apostles spread his teachings, forming the early church. So, both are seen as pivotal origins, just at different times and contexts. Corresponding figures to the apostles in Islam would be the companions of the Prophet Muhammad. People like Abu Bakr, Umar, and others helped spread and organize the early Islam community after Muhammad’s death. They played a similar role of leadership and transmission of the religion’s teachings.

In Islam, figures like Moses, known as Musa, are also revered as prophets. In fact, he’s one of the most significant. Similarly, David, or Dawud, is also a prophet and king figure in Islam. The judges in the Bible have no exact one-to-one counterpart, but prophets like Ibrahim (Abraham) or Yusuf (Joseph) play foundational patriarchal roles in the Islamic tradition, much like those figures do in the Hebrew Bible. Many of the major and minor prophets from the Hebrew Bible, like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel, are also recognized in Islam. They’re considered prophets, but often with different details about their lives or missions. The Qur’an mentions some of them, but not always in the same way as the Bible, so they’re respected figures in both religions.

A difference that must be known is that Islam acknowledges Isaiah as a prophet, but it doesn’t see him as prophesying about Jesus in the way Christianity does. In Islam, Jesus (Isa) is respected as a prophet, but they don’t view Isaiah’s writings as specifically predicting him. Instead, they see their own prophecies and scriptures pointing to Jesus as a prophet, not as the divine Son of God. Important differences concerning Jesus exist in Islam. They do believe in Jesus (they call him Isa), and they honor him as a prophet, but they don’t follow him as the Son of God or the Savior in the Christian sense. So, they respect his teachings, especially his moral guidance, but they see him as one prophet among many, not as divine.

In Islam, there’s a belief in a future figure called the Mahdi, who will come to bring justice and peace. In Judaism, they’re still awaiting the coming of the Messiah as well. So, while the Christian faith sees Jesus as the Messiah, Islam and Judaism have distinct expectations and timelines for their messianic hopes. In Islam, the Mahdi is a future figure who will come to restore justice and peace. He is seen as a guided leader who will defeat oppression and bring about a global era of equity. Shia Islam, in particular, ties the Mahdi closely to the twelfth imam, who is believed to be in occultation and will reappear to fulfill this mission, often alongside Jesus.

My Brothers and Sisters, the differences are many, and this crisis in the United States is real!!! This can no longer just be passively unnoticed and ignored. It’s time we open our eyes and ears. Simply look at the facts, take in the truth, and one can undeniably understand that now is the time, the day, the moment to begin rectifying this crisis, which is a Clash of Kingdoms.
