Everyone needs a lifeline at some point in life—someone that would jump over into cold water for us when we’re sinking! Solomon actually says it this way—“Two are better than one—if one falls down, his friend can help him up.” Who do you have that would jump over into cold water for you? “I don’t need dollar bills to have fun tonight!” Our culture is constantly informing us on what’s needed for a fulfilling life. “Live for the moment! Have fun! Make a lot of money! Become successful!” However, Solomon was the wealthiest man to ever live and used his wealth to chase every pleasure known to man—at the end of the day, he said, “These are cheap thrills!” He then gives this principle: A good thing that becomes ultimate will ultimately destroy you!

As parents, the most important thing we can do to help our children grow to love God and become productive members of society is put ourselves at the front of the line! Our personal growth is imperative for us to pass along a legacy.

Sometimes we can become hyper-focused on making sure our children are obeying the rules. Our discipline and lectures take on the notion—“I’m right because I’m in charge! So, get in line and do what I say!” In this talk, we will discover that God, though He is always right and always in charge, chooses to focus on the relationship more than the rules. He is bent on fighting for our hearts and challenges us to do the same for our children.

As parents, it can become overwhelming trying to provide everything our children need to become successful and happy in life. We are often quick to pick up the yardstick culture hands us and measure success for our children by superficial standards. Over time, we start thinking the most important things are for them to attend the right college, make the right friends, marry the right person, live in the right neighborhood and have the right career. While these things may be important, ultimately they are not most important. Imagining the end, helps us focus on what’s most important in our children’s lives and reminds us that God is always writing His narrative with their lives.
