  • The Broken Shelf 008: The Sheltering Sky
[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised.
This week is a doozy as The Tsar tries to make sense of the insane, meta-physical nature that is Paul Bowles' most famous novel. The two shred into the absurdity of the plot and berate, maybe a little to much, the author's physical appearance. However, the Tsar is masterful in his illumination of the true impact of the novel and the strong impact it had on him. They also open up with a little insight into how they warm up before a podcast! Fun and insightful, this episode has it all.

  • The Broken Shelf 007: MythOS
[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes.
    Listener discretion is advised.
After spoiling the first three books in their first Supersonic Synopsis, Danny reviews the fourth book in Kelly McCullough's 'Ravirn series', 'MythOS'. He addresses the difficultly of adjusting to the new setting and the characters of Norse Mythology, but compliments McCullough's take on multiverse theory. The Tsar even has a chance to discuss one of his guilty pleasure T.V. series. And of course, these two bumbling gents have a few laughs along the way.

  • Supersonic Synopsis 001: Webmage Series: Books 1-3
[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised.
In a new addendum series, Danny explores the first three novels in Kelly McCullough's urban fantasy series: 'Ravirn'. He spoils most of the plot for all three and explains what he thinks works and what doesn't. Along the way are some laughs and some rants. Very good conversation if you are looking for some simple revelations into Greek mythology and the possible ideas that can come from it for contemporary novelists.

Taking a break from reviewing selected books, the literary comrades take a moment to reflect on the world of literature in 2017. Danny goes through the 'Amazon' Top 10 and the 'New York Times' Top 10. How do they compare? Whom is rating them? And how do these lists reflect the dynamic of contemporary literature? Not only an in-depth discussion, but we get a small view of The Tsar's underlying emotions as he expresses his sorrows with the passing of two of his most cherished authors. And don't worry, they make a few crass jokes along the way!

[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised.
The young grasshoppers takes a leap and reviews non-fiction material. Tom Stanton's book harbors tremendous scenes of jubilation and celebration, as well as illustrates the depth of darkness that sometimes distorts humanity. Horrible acts of racial terrorism are performed by a Michigan organization calling themselves the "Black Legion" in the very town where three different professional sports team reach the peak of their sport. There is a lot of history, a lot of facts, a lot of somber reflection, and as usual some laughs. Enjoy!
