On this episode, we explore the world of pollinators in Tennessee. Bees, butterflies, even birds and other insects provide the essential service of carrying pollen from flower to flower, helping to grow the food we eat.
But the number of pollinators are dwindling due to loss of habitat and overuse of pesticides. So what do Tennesseans need to know about these fascinating creatures? How can we help the pollinators to thrive? What can we do, or not do, to encourage their populations to grow?
But first, we're joined by WPLN special projects editor Tony Gonzalez with an update about Monday's shooting at Covenant School. We also learn more about Katherine Koonce from her friend of 20+ years Anna Caudill. Koonce was the head of Covenant and one of the six shooting victims.
we speak with community member Anna Caudill, a friend of Covenant School Headmaster Katherine Koonce who was killed in the March 27th mass shooting.
Guests:
Mike Studer, Tennessee state apiarist
Gene Smalley, beekeeper
Ian Dawe, founding member of The Honey Collective, secretary of Nashville Area Beekeepers Association
Jo Brichetto, naturalist and writer of Sidewalk Nature
