Episode 105 - What A Buncha Clowns

September is here folks, and you know what that means. Fall officially starts, the shorts and t-shirts get traded up for hoodies and jeans, pumpkin spice lattes become the only thing you see on instagram for about a month, and last, but certainly not least, September marks the beginning of Halloween season for us horror fans.

Perhaps more important than all of that however, September is the birth month of the King Of Horror, Stephen King. This year we decided to celebrate with a full month of Stephen King episodes.

So, If you consider this month to be a giant birthday, what's the best way to kickoff the party? With a clown of course. Actually, two clowns, in this case. This week we compare the new school to the old school with a look at the original IT miniseries, the new film from 2017, and some Batch 027: New School Old School IPA from Nowhere In Particular Brewery.

Episode 104 - Deader Is Better

There's an old saying that goes, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". You've all heard it before, right? It's a good saying, but there is an even better one that you might NOT have heard. It goes, "You can't bring an old dog back from the dead and expect it not to bite you in the ass."

Ok, we made that one up, but we think it's pretty good. It could apply to a number of things. For example, you can't bring up an old, petty argument with a loved one, and expect it to not start a new one, or you can't send your ex a drunk text at 3am and possibly expect that it will lead to anything other than trouble.

However in the case of this week's episode, we mean it quite literally. Once things die, it might be best to leave them that way, because they just might come back looking for an ass to bite.

Episode 103 - A Deep Space Cat-astrophie

If there are two things in this world that go hand-in-hand, it's cats and space. When is the last time you saw a movie about a mission to the far reaches of the universe that didn't rely heavily on a cat as a main plot point? What would all of our favorite sci-fi movies be without the inclusion of many, many felines?

Ok, you caught us. The jig is up. We kinda back ourselves into a corner here. For this weeks episode, we already had the beer, a delicious Double IPA from Rohrbach Brewing Co. that goes by the name of Space Kitty, so we decided to take that name at face value, and instead of a movie about space cats, we watched a movie about space, and a movie about a cat. So hunker down in your airlock, with your favorite scratching post... maybe some catnip, and prepare yourself for a deep space cat-astrophe.

Episode 102 - Bad Brew: A Second Look At Creepshow III

We're all about two things here at The Buzzed Kill Podcast, good horror and good beer. However, every once in awhile, we have to remind ourselves that we are very very lucky. We have an almost endless catalogue of amazing films and delicious beer to choose from, but not everyone is in that same position. Some people don't have huge movie collections, and live in a state with hundreds of breweries. Some people don't bother paying for Netflix, Hulu, Shudder, Amazon Prime, or Vudu, and also live down the street from a liquor store with thousands of beer options. Then there are the real sad cases of people who have created their own special hell by living in dry counties, or dating/marrying a person who "Doesn't like horror movies" or "Thinks beer is disgusting". We shudder at the thought. However, we still feel like it is our responsibility to see how the other half live, just to make us all the more appreciative of what he have. That is why we created our BAD BREW episodes. We suffer through the movies that seem to be hated by everyone, and try to figure out if they are really as bad as people say. This week it was time to watch CREEPSHOW III, the universally panned sequel to the original classics by Stephen King and George A. Romero. We paired that with some Arrogant Bastard Ale from Arrogant Brewing (Yeah we still did good beer. We're not masochists), and got down to brass tacks to answer the question, Does Creepshow III deserve its bad reputation.

Episode 101 - Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Psycho

If you didn't have a crush on one of your babysitters when you were a kid, it's safe to say that you weren't doing childhood correctly. We still remember our first babysitter crush. It was the summer of 1993. There she stood in our doorway on that first beautiful Michigan evening. With the sun setting behind her, we laid our eyes on her silhouetted figure, a halo of golden rays dancing around her head. Her liver-spotted hand rested delicately on her mahogany cane. As she leaned in to greet us with a fistful of Werther's Originals, she spoke those first magical words, "Bedtime is 7 sharp. I'm not missing Jeopardy for this." Be still our heart. It was a whirlwind summer, and we learned a lot about ourselves.

Mainly that we kinda have a thing for older women. Much older women.

Babysitters have always been a classic trope in horror movies. Usually they serve as a way to pad the body count of the villain, but this week we decided to turn the trope on its head, and take a look at some babysitters gone bad.

So, if you've ever had a crush on a babysitter, even if she was bad, grab some Crush Raspberry Sour from 10 Barrel Brewing, sneak out when she's not looking, and meet us in the treehouse for some movie talk.

Episode 100 - 2018 SUMMER SLAYOFFS

100 episodes! We did it, guys. Can you hardly believe it? Yeah, we know, we can’t either. All of the blood, sweat, and tears have finally brought us to this point. A lot of blood. Mostly bloody. An unsettling amount of blood, really. Well, needless to say, we are excited that we’ve made it this far, and we decided to celebrate in the grandest fashion. We wrangled 32 strangers and matched them at random, then prepared to watch them fight to the death, tournament style, for our own pleasure. Upon further review, and advice from our legal team, we decided that, although it sounded delightful, ending the lives of 31 people was, at best, ill-advised. So we decided to do the next best thing, and we chose 32 movie monsters from varying categories, and pitted them against each other in a Tournament of Terror. 32 entered, 1 survived, and 3 got a little drunk on Centennial IPA from Founders Brewing Company. Episode 99 - Late Shift, Last Call

Burning the midnight oil, dogwatch, graveyard shift, lobster trick. Whatever you call it, sometimes working late into the night is what you gotta do to stay in the black. Take us for instance. Every week we are putting in the extra hours, taking on the rigorous task of watching our favorite movies, and trying all kinds of new delicious beer. It can be quite exhausting. And what do we have to show for it, besides droves of adoring fans, and widespread, national, critical acclaim probably? Nothing, but that’s how you know we care. We punch those time cards because this is what we love.... but also if anyone hears this and wants to start paying us, that would actually be preferable. This week we decided to pay homage to the other people out there who are sweating it out late-night, and bringing home the bacon. For all those who run themselves ragged, doing the real dirty work, we grabbed some Norm’s Raggedy Ass IPA from Griffin Claw and discussed two films about people who really know how to work themselves to death.

Man, that really doesn’t roll off the tongue the way we thought it did in the 90’s. Maybe we’re remembering the lyrics wrong, but regardless, it does bring some interesting thoughts to mind. What would you do if you were just going about your daily business (work, school, shopping at the mall, working out at the gym), and suddenly you were thrust into a scenario where you had to kill everyone else around you to survive? It doesn’t matter if they are your friends, enemies, neighbors, strangers, family, or coworkers. The only way for you to survive is for everyone else to die. That’s a pretty rough situation. We know what we would do. We would use our extensive knowledge of genre movies to craft our own awesome weapons, and we would dive headlong into the carnage…. and immediately be dispatched by anyone with just a minimal amount of self-defense knowledge.

This week we grabbed some Lost Minds Tart IPA from Brewery Vivant, and discussed a couple movies where people are forced to fight everyone around them, until only one person is left standing.

Episode 97 - Dragged To Hell: Return Of The Hot Sauce Challenge

Everyone seems to have their own idea of Hell. Some people think it's fire, brimstone, and being tortured with hot pokers by Satan's minions, while others believe it's an eternal abyss. A vast nothingness where you are doomed to remain for the rest of eternity. We gotta be honest, neither one of those options seem too bad compared to what we think Hell is, and the reason is because we are currently living in our own personal Hell. The worst part is... it's a Hell of our own making. Almost two years ago we decided to contrive a situation in which we would have to sit in a room, enduring the displeasure of each others company for several hours at a time... every single week!!! It has been nothing short of insufferable. To add insult to injury, this week we invited our most obnoxious friend, Jon, to join us. If all of that was not bad enough, we also decided to reprise our hot sauce challenge, but this time we upped the ante with even hotter sauces, and washed it all down with Sriracha Hot Stout from Rogue Ales. If there was one thing that provided some respite from this Sisyphean task, it was the discussion of one of our favorite Sam Raimi films, Drag Me To Hell.

Episode 96 - This Episode Is Really Campy

Summer is here, folks, and you know what that means. Temperatures so hot you can barely breathe? You bet. Beautiful beaches with scorching sand, capable of giving you third degree burns? You know it! Constant swamp ass? Uncontrollable sweating? Bubbling, blistering sunburns? Yep, all of that! Gee, summer is kind of dangerous, but we don’t care. We love it. The one dangerous summer activity that trumps all the rest, and our personal favorite by far, is camping. Sleeping under the stars, cooking over a fire, hiking through the woods. Like we said though, it certainly comes with it’s fair share of dangers. You could burn your tongue on a roasted marshmallow, trip on a tree root during a hike, or accidentally walk through poison ivy. Those are some of the major mishaps to avoid. Then there are the less concerning things, like getting hopelessly lost, running into man-eating bears, fighting off your murderous father, or even running from mythical demon creatures. This week we threw a couple extra logs on, and told some scary camping movie stories around some Wakefire Cider from Blake’s.
