Episode 95 - Welcome To Earth: An Independence Day Retrospective
Happy 4th of July Weekend, everybody! We’re just sitting here thinking about freedom. We are so happy that we live in a place where we are free to live our lives the way we see fit. Isn’t it awesome? However, we are a little concerned about the things that are currently threatening our freedom. You know what we are referring to. The aliens. They come here uninvited, they don’t speak our language, they burn up all of our resources, then just move on like nothing happened. Don’t even get us started on how they smell, or those dumb biomechanical suits they always wear. Zipping around in their little ships, leveling entire city blocks with their plasma rays. Space aliens are the worst, man. It’s a good thing us humans are so good at putting our differences aside, so we can rely on each other, should any real threats arise. This week we liberated some Samuel Adams Sam ‘76 from the liquor store, and freed up some time to discuss two movies that may as well be documentaries about the greatest threat to our freedom. Those damn aliens.

  • EP 94 - Ninten-Don't Drink and Game
    Episode 94 - Ninten-Don't Drink and Game
We have a lot in common with each other over here at The Buzzed Kill Podcast, and that's probably why we are such good friends. We are all musicians, we all love camping, and not to state the obvious, but we all love beer, horror movies, and video games. We have to admit, the last two things on that list have never really impressed our parents very much. It wasn't uncommon to hear them say things like, "You're going to go blind, looking at those darn video games all day", or "Friday the 13th? What's that garbage? You want real cinema? Weekend At Bernie's... now there's a real classic", and even "I don't care what you do, you're 33 years old. Just get the hell out of my basement!" WELL, LOOK AT US NOW, DAD!!! Not only have we managed to turn our love for horror movies into one of the top Southwest Michigan podcasts in the genre of beer and horror movies among 18-34 year olds(Easily in the top 50 probably), but we can even spin our love for video games into an episode. Added Bonus: We're pretty sure that if there was ever a zombie apocalypse or an alien invasion, we would be preeeetty okay. This week we grabbed some Hoptronix Double IPA from New Holland Brewing, did a quick review of a video game-based horror movie, then focused our attention E3 2018's coverage of some upcoming genre-based games.

  • EP 93 - Sleep Par-ale-ysis
    Episode 93 - Sleep Par-ale-ysis
As a horror movie podcast, we are certainly no strangers to horrifying imagery. On any given day you can find us watching things that other people only see in their nightmares. Things that would paralyze them with fear, figuratively speaking. Then there are the unfortunate souls for whom being paralyzed by their nightmares is all too real. Sleep paralysis is a strange, often misunderstood, affliction that affects more people than you may realize. Then there is the even more terrifying scenario of waking up to realize that your nightmare has bled into real life. You are trapped, you can’t breathe, and realize that, like it or not, you are Jim’s wife, and there is no escaping that hell. This week we tried to fight sleep with some Hotbox Coffee Porter from Oskar Blues Brewery, then we discussed a documentary and a film that both explore the strange phenomenon of sleep paralysis.

  • EP 92 - Why Is Everyone Screaming?
Episode 92 - Why Is Everyone Screaming???
I scream, you scream, Dear God.... the children..... they’re screaming. Oh the humanity!!!! What’s with all the screaming, right? It seems our friendly neighborhood purveyor of delicious frozen treats is causing quite a stir around town. Generally we’d say, It’s nothing to be alarmed by. After all, the Good Humor Man didn’t earn that title for being a big grump, but it turns out even the most vanilla among us can fall off the deep end if the Road gets too Rocky. This week we grabbed some Ice Cream Man Kettle Sour Ale from Roak Brewery, and served up two scoops of scary in a w-awful cone, with a discussion about two Ice Cream Men whose hearts are as cold as their confections.

  • EP 91 - Net Brutality
    Episode 91 - Net Brutality
Imagine, if you can, a world where a few simple commands could produce anything you can imagine. A world where the entire recorded history of mankind is just a click away. Information traveling at the speed of light from one continent to another in all directions like little tendrils of knowledge descending upon the earth, forming a virtual “web” that connects us all. Communication would be reliable, easy, and instantaneous. We hope we haven’t lost you yet. Now, imagine that there are people, bad people, waiting in the dark corners of this “internetwork”, who take advantage of this amazing world wide structure to exploit people for their own benefit. Thieves, kidnappers, murderers, lowlifes, no-goodniks, you name it. Sounds pretty frightening right? Well, just be glad that’s the stuff of these science fiction comics that these darn kids are reading these days, and not real life. In this edition of The Buzzed Kill Tribune we decided to give our take two of those crazy stories, and we did it while enjoying a couple fine PC Pils oat sodas from the boys over at Founders Brewing. Cheers!

  • EP 90 - Mind Over Murder
Episode 90 - Mind over Murder
We know what you're thinking. No, that's not a figure of speech. We literally know what you're thinking. First of all, let us just say, Tina, you are very kind to think that we are the best Michigan-based horror podcast hosted by guys named Mike and Jim, who release episodes on Sundays. Next up, Dex, thanks for listening, and we don't know exactly why you're thinking the numbers 90-2-500, but we're assuming it's something like, "Wow, I can't believe this is the 90th episode of a podcast, hosted by 2 guys, who i would gladly pay $500 just to hang out with." That's mighty kind of you. Andrew, bet it all on 6, trust us. Finally, Brian, we know you don't listen to our show, but we can read your mind anyway, and we just want to confirm what you're wondering right now. It is true... we don't like you.
Well, that was exhausting, so we'll keep this part quick. This week grabbed some Mind's Eye P.A. from Petoskey Brewing Co., and discussed a couple movies that take you on a journey through the mind. Cheers!

  • EP 89 - Mock-U-Mentality
    Episode 89 - Mock-U-Mentality
Horror movies are scary, right? At least the good ones are. However sometimes reality can be just as scary, if not more so. When a filmmaker wants to bring the horrors of the real world into the light of day, they make a documentary. Then there are the filmmakers who like to blur the lines between what is real and what is fantasy. Enter the horror mockumentary. They're like art imitating life... imitating art. A little look into what life would be like if we were actually living in a world filled with our favorite cinematic masked serial killers, or races of subhuman underground dwellers. This week we grabbed some Liquid Truth Serum IPA from Dogfish Head, and got real... well kinda real with a discussion about two of our favorite horror mockumentaries.

Episode 87 - Tread Light, Speakeasy
Psst... shhhh.... It's just us. We're not going to say much about this episode. We think it speaks (or doesn't speak) for itself. Without giving away too much about the episode, we just want to let you know that we finally saw A Quiet Place. So to celebrate that we decided to also watch Don't Breathe, then we got together and recorded ourselves not saying a word for 2 hours. It has potential to be our best episode yet. So grab some Big Wave Golden Ale from Kona Brewing Co., then shut your trap, and listen up. Cheers!

  • EP 86 - A Land Of Make Beer-lieve
    Episode 86 - A Land Of Make Beer-lieve
Anyone who loves movies, especially genre movies, knows that part of their appeal is the feeling of escape that they offer. There’s nothing better than hitting play and slipping away into a world of fantasy for a little while. It’s such a good way to forget about the troubles of every day life. When you find yourself In a fairytale labyrinth, suddenly your mortgage, and utilities are a distant memory. When you’re surrounded by goblins, unicorns and other mythical creatures of lore, it no longer matters that your car is on the fritz. On your epic journey through the underworld to save a beautiful princess, you suddenly don’t worry about the fact that, no matter how many times you tweet him, Bruce Campbell is definitely NOT going to come to your birthday party dressed as Ash. Damn it Bruce! Just consider it! This week we decided to forget the troubles of the real world, and dive into two fantasy worlds of film, along with six packs of Sun Crusher Wheat Ale and Anti-Hero IPA from Revolution Brewing, and the company of our friend and fellow fantasy fanatic, Tank.
