  • EP 75 - The Inevitable Return Of The Great White North
Episode 75 - The Inevitable Return Of The Great White North
Canada, eh? A beautiful country, rich in history and culture, and richer still in maple syrup and smiles. Being from Michigan, we are certainly no strangers to the most genial of all US neighbors. Sure they are responsible for Nickelback and Three Days Grace, which in and of itself is worthy of a border wall, but they also gave us Tim Horton’s, IMAX, and peanut butter, so we’ll just call it good. One thing that probably doesn’t come to mind when you think of Canada, however, is horror. The place is so beautiful, and the people are so friendly, it’s hard to imagine anything terrible happening there, but we know better. This week we grabbed some of Canada’s finest brews, Moosehead and Molson Ice, as well as some CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) from Founders Brewery here in Michigan, and discussed a couple movies that delve into the darker side of The Great White North.

Episode 74 - When It Comes To Beer, We Lovecraft.
Every horror lover knows that you can’t swing Cat Of Ulthar in this business without hitting a Lovecraft fan. The influence of H.P. spreads across the genre like a Crawling Chaos. A Whisperer In Darkness, he calls out From Beyond to his legions of followers and draws them nearer to The Temple of his dark genius. Well, slap my tentacles and call me Cthulhu. Is that evil or what? This week we grabbed Two Black Bottles of Ephemere Sureau from Unibroue, and stood at the Mountains Of H.P.’s Madness with a discussion of two Lovecraftian films.

  • EP 73 - Getting Down With The Sickness
Episode 73 - Getting Down With The Sickness
We’ve been having a pretty rough go of it lately, guys. It seems like all three of us have been sick for about two months straight. This cold and flu season has been a real horror show. We’ll admit, it’s gotten so bad that we’ve actually started to wonder if this is really just sickness, or if there is something more sinister at work. Are we cursed? Are our exes practicing voodoo on us? Do we actually have drinking problems, and this is withdrawal? Who knows? We just want it to go away, so this week we decided to cure what ‘ales’ us with some Cabin Fever Brown Ale from New Holland Brewing and feverish discussion about a couple mystery diagnosis movies.

  • EP 72 - Blood Is Thicker Than Lager
Episode 72 - Blood Is Thicker Than Lager
We’re getting a little bit older over here at The Buzzed Kill Podcast, and as we do, we are becoming more interested in particular things. Lately, we have been pretty fascinated by our own personal bloodlines. Tracing back our lineage we have each found out some pretty amazing things. Justin, for instance, has learned that he comes from Polish royalty, Jim had a Scottish ancestor who saved William The Lion from a charging boar during a hunt, thus the boar on his family crest, and Mike has it on pretty good authority that at least a handful of his ancestors in fact did NOT collect cat turds. Really incredible stuff. This week we grabbed some Bloodline Blood Orange Ale from Flying Dog and discussed Hellraiser: Bloodline and Day Of The Dead: Bloodline.

  • Ep 71 - Don't Be A Square - A Cube Retrospective
    Episode 71 - Don't Be A Square - A Cube Retrospective
What we’re about to tell you is a universal truth. The powers that be will spend years trying to convince you otherwise, but the simple fact remains that math.... is indeed.... stupid and pointless. I can remember asking the same question time and time again.
“When am I ever gonna to need to know this?”
“Well, if you want to become a physicist, or an engineer, or even an architect this will come in handy.”
To which I would reply, “Mrs. Howard, I just woke up from a 40 minute nap during your lecture, and decided to see what the lead from my mechanical pencil tastes like. I think it’s safe to say that my future will be relatively math free.”
Of course there are exceptions. Should I ever find myself in a seemingly endless grid of constantly shifting cuboidal rooms fitted with nightmarish booby traps, and my only hope of survival hinges on solving a series of complex algebraic equations, my guess is I will wish that I had paid a little more attention.
This week we decided to discuss the only time that we could think of that math would come in even remotely handy. We grabbed some M-43 N.E. IPA from Old Nation Brewing, and discussed the Cube Trilogy. E=MC(scared)!

  • EP70 - When There's No More Beer To Sell, The Drunks Will Walk The Earth
EP70 - When There's No More Beer To Sell, The Drunks Will Walk The Earth
The late, great George A. Romero was known as the Godfather Of The Dead, and the Father Of The Zombie Film for a reason. Although he wasn't the first director to take on the subject, he IS responsible for creating the rotting, shambling, flesh-eating fiends that we all know and love so well. Not only that, but he brought substance to the genre, injecting social commentary straight into the heart of his films. The very heart which was then gloriously ripped from a chest cavity and feasted upon. Over the years The Godfather has become often imitated and seldom duplicated, spawning generations of horror filmmakers who have tried to capture the essence of George's films, some even taking on remakes of his own work. This week we invited our friend Vito Power over. He brought us some Dawn Of The Red IPA from Nikasi Brewing, and we had a discussion about the original Dawn Of The Dead, and the 2004 remake helmed by Zac Snyder.

  • EP69 - The Shape Of Drunk to Come 2
Episode 69 - The Shape Of Drunk To Come 2
We did it!!! Another year gone off the old Calendar, and we’re all still here. Sure, we have a little less hair than we did last year. We might be getting a little soft around the midsection. Maybe our livers aren’t quite working like they used to, but we’re still kicking, and we have just one New Year’s resolution. We will continue to drink copious amounts of alcohol, sit in front of microphones, and string together random, half-boiled, mildly entertaining conversations about horror movies. This is our promise to you! Unless, you know, we get sick of it by February and just decide that we’re not really the “New Year’s Resolution” type. We decided to start the year off fresh. We grabbed some Power Of Love Shandy from Short’s Brewing, and took a glimpse into the future to talk about some upcoming horror for 2018.
    TRAILERS WE DISCUSSED:
    STRANGERS 2: PREY AT NIGHT
    THE NEW MUTANTS
    INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY

  • EP68 - T'was The Last Call before Christmas
Episode 68 - T'was The Last Call Before Christmas
    ‘Twas the night before Christmas
    And three Buzzed Kill hunks
    Had just settled down
    To get Christmas drunk
When what to their beer-goggled eyes should appear
A cloak-covered killer bringing vengeance and fear
Like a flash they flew upstairs with drunken dramatics
But were stopped by the psycho who lived in the attic
The hunks turned to run, but the killers were quicker
“We don’t want to hurt you, just give us some liquor”
So with food on their plates and shots in their glasses
These five new best friends got drunk off their asses
They capped off the night with a couple of beers
Merry Christmas to all, from the Buzzed Kill Boys, Cheers!
Happy Holidays everyone! This week we grabbed a sixer of Bell's Christmas Ale and had us a little showdown to settle the age old question, which Christmas is better? Red or Black?
(and yes by age old, we mean less than a year...)

  • EP67 - Do You Wanna Kill A Snowman
EP67 - Do You Wanna Kill A Snowman
Winter has officially begun here in Michigan, and that means a couple of things for us. It means harsh, blowing winds, subzero temperatures, shoveling snow on a daily basis, and trading in our shorts and t-shirts for.... slightly longer shorts and heavier t-shirts. Yeah, we deal pretty well with the weather here in the midwest. More so than all of those things, however, the arrival of winter means that we get to start doing two of our favorite outdoor activities. Building snowmen and hitting the slopes. It's a wonderful time of year... for the most part. Every once in a great while we do deal with unexpectedly being stranded on chairlifts, and in some extremely rare instances we have to deal with the occasional homicidal snowman who has been possessed by a serial killer. That hardly ever happens though. This week we stocked our icebox with some Ski Patrol Belgian Inspired Wit from Brewery Vivant and chilled with a discussion about a couple winter horror classics.

  • EP 66 - Attack Of The Killer Kiwis
Episode 66 - Attack Of The Killer Kiwis
What do you think of when you hear someone say New Zealand? Beautiful, picturesque landscapes? Interesting, diverse cultures? Awesome accents? Epic movies about mythical creatures on quests to defeat evil, and save the earth..... the middle part anyway? Yeah, just like everyone else, we think of those things too, but we also think about one more thing. Amazing, gory, hilarious, splatterfest horror-comedy. New Zealand has been proving for a long time that they do it just as well, if not better than, everybody. This week we grabbed some Fruitallica Double IPA, a collaboration between three breweries, Stone, Beavertown, and Garage Project. Then we invited our buddy Tank over to talk about a couple of the Kiwi’s finest blood baths.
