This month's podcast sees us visit some classic songs from the Great American Songbook, songs from Ella Fitzgerald and Andre Previn as well a couple of impressive visits to the Piano Bar.

Welcome to our first podcast of 2024. This month's podcast has a mix of songs you are bound to recognise from The Great American Songbook. The album of the month goes back some years as we pay a tribute to someone who contributed to the New York music nightlife for over 40 years and should not be forgotten.

There is a definite theme to this month's visit to The Cabaret Room, with a collection of what I would guess are unfamiliar seasonal songs from the likes of Michael Feinstein, Joyce Breach and Billy Stritch, to even a song called I Don't Believe in Christmas.

Winner of the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, Samara Joy is in London this month as well as fellow American entertainer Billy Stritch at the Crazy Coqs and its a first time visit to the show from jazz vocalist J.D Walter who will be a

new name to many.

October looks like a busy/wide ranging month for cabaret/jazz here in London and New York, especially as vocal group the New York Voices are at Ronnie's and the unique Steve Ross at The Pheasantry, plus a new voice Samara Joy should have a full house at Dizzys in New York. All that plus Album of the month from an extraordinary singer Judy Niemack and two very contrasting pianists

in The Piano Bar, Fred Hirsch and Cy Walter.

This months Cabaret Room features some names which may be new to you, including Cheyanne Jackson and Georgio Mancio, plus a voice from the past Matt Dennis as well as piano jazz from the Bill Charlap Trio and a brand new album of all new songs from New York singer/songwriters Anja Turner and Robert Grusecki.

This months Cabaret room features a 23 year old artist by the name of Samara Joy. We also feature one of the oldest artists Sheila Jordan who is still singing and performing at the fabulous age of 95!

We also have tracks from likes of Catherine Russell and it goes without saying we have to honour the late Tony Bennett.

In this months Cabaret Room Sondheim followers should be pleased as Broadway star Melissa Errico sings two of her classic songs, jazz pianist Monty Alexander livens up the pace with a Anthony Newley gem and singers Liz & Ann Calloway go "live".

We also feature a track from the fabulous Thelma Ruby, as she celebrating her 98th birthday!

In this month's Cabaret Room, Laurie asks "Have you heard of the singers Marcus Goldhaber, Angela Verbruggue or Karen Oberlin ?" Some of the many artists UK radio fails to play. Fear not though, as you can hear them right here on The Cabaret Room.

This months podcast also features a new re-issue from jazz singer Stacy Kent that is just a delight.

This months Cabaret Room is very different to all the previous podcasts in that it features just two performers and is all about their unique musical partnership.  Jazz singer Claire Martin has just released a new album I Watch You Sleep with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra that is dedicated to the late singer/composer Richard Rodney Bennett.

There is also (for the first time) an interview with both of them about cabaret music and what it means to them.
