    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers spoke with Kimberly Arms Shirk, author of Remote Fears and Silver Linings. Shirk was a reporter and photographer for ABC WOI-TV 5 in 1997 when she was electrocuted in an accident with one of the station’s remote vans covering a story in Des Moines. This weekend marks 20 years since the accident and Shirk discussed with Brian and Shane what she learned through the numerous surgeries, her recovery, and the time since. 
    The guys also discuss the Nashville Statement and liberal reaction to it. Shane and Brian also talk about Apple’s investment in Iowa, what it means economically, and the impact it could make on public policy down the road. Plus, 15 Ivy League Professors give incoming college freshmen some incredibly solid advice. The guys also talk about Hurricane Harvey and the response to it.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 8-26-17 (Matt Johnson & Steve Myers)
    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Brian Myers and Shane Vander Hart rehash the Civil War and Confederate monuments with Matt Johnson who is a senior instructor in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Northwest Missouri State University. They discuss the purpose of many Confederate memorials that were raised after Reconstruction and during the Civil Rights Era.
    Steve Myers of CyHawk Thoughts called in to discuss Iowa Hawkeye and Iowa State Cyclones football with the guys.
    During the third segment, the guys then discuss President Trump’s new direction in Afghanistan. Also, Canada finds itself with a migrant and asylum seeker problem. Then, Paula White goes to bat for President Trump. The Southern Poverty Law Center is being sued for their hate map. Finally, the 9th Circuit Court finds silent prayer on a public school football field unconstitutional.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts 8-12-17 (Roger Gannam & Bruce Klingner)

    On Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week Shane Vander Hart during our first segment talked to Roger Gannam, the Assistant Vice President of Legal Affairs for Liberty Counsel, about transgendered persons in the military. The discussed former President Barack Obama’s policy, why it should be reversed, and what President Donald Trump will need to do put a reversal of that policy into effect.
    During the second segment, Shane spoke with Bruce Klingner, a Senior Research Fellow for Northeast Asia at the Heritage Foundation. Prior to Heritage, Klingner spent 20 years with the CIA and DIA including service as the Deputy Division Chief for North Korea at the CIA. Klingner shares his thoughts about North Korea’s nuclear program, their recent threat against Guam, and how close the United States may be to military action.
    During the third segment, Shane, and our producer Ron Carlson discusses a recent poll showing that over half of Republicans would support postponing the 2020 election over voter fraud concerns. Also, the state of Iowa is being sued again for a workplace “fraught with harassment” at the Iowa Department of Revenue. This follows a former Senate Republican staffer successfully suing the state of Iowa and the Senate Republican caucus for wrongful termination after the former communications director submitted a sexual harassment claim.

    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Shane Vander Hart spoke with Jake Porter who is, currently, the only Libertarian running for Governor of Iowa. Porter shares what a Libertarian governor would mean for the state and how he would address Iowa’s fiscal challenges.
    Then, Dr. Christopher Peters called in to discuss his 2nd bid to try to unseat Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa) in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District. He is currently the only Republican in the field. Shane and Dr. Peters discuss the failed attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare in depth.
    Then Shane looks at why the Senate could not pass even a “skinny” repeal of Obamacare (whatever that means). Also, the White House appears to be in disarray. Will Attorney General Jeff Sessions stay or go? Also, who is this new White House Communications Director?

    We recorded this week’s Caffeinated Thoughts Radio at the Family Leadership Summit held last weekend in Des Moines. During the first segment, Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers talk to Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett who is challenging Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds in the 2018 Iowa Republican Primary. He discusses why he is running for Governor and what his plans are if he wins.
    Then the guys are joined by Jason and David Benham for the second segment.  The Benham Brothers were keynote speakers at the Family Leadership Summit. The Benham Brothers were going to be hosts of a new show on HGTV until LGBT activists pressured the network into dropping their show because they had been vocal supporters of traditional marriage in North Carolina.
    During the 3rd segment, Mark Rader who is the National Director of Student Recruitment with Summit Ministries discussed camps they run during the summer and how their worldview training benefits teenagers and young adults.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 7-15-17 (Doug Douma & Mike Ericson)

    Brian Myers and Shane Vander Hart on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week were joined by Doug Douma and Rev. Mike Ericson to discuss the life and work of Christian philosopher Gordon H. Clark.
    Douma holds an engineering degree from the University of Michigan, an M.B.A. from Wake Forest University, and an MDiv from Sangre de Cristo Seminary. He is a licensed minister in the Reformed Presbyterian Church – Hanover Presbytery and author of The Presbyterian Philosopher: The Authorized Biography of Gordon H. Clark. He joined us from just outside of Asheville, North Carolina.
    Ericson holds postgraduate degrees in philosophy and theology from Baylor University and Reformed Theological Seminary and is pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Reformed Church in Johnston, IA.
    Later in the show, Shane and Brian discuss the controversy surrounding Donald Trump Jr. over his June meeting with a Russian attorney who offered damaging material on Hillary Clinton. The guys also discuss the Senate Health Care Reform bill. Also, former Vice President Al Gore blows a gasket in Austrailia.

    In the first segment, Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers spoke to Dalfonzo, who is the editor of BreakPoint.org, about her new book, One by One: Welcoming the Singles In Your Church. They discussed mixed messages the Church sends singles, how the courtship culture made it difficult for singles, and what the Church can do to change.
    In the second segment, Pullmann, who is the managing editor for The Federalist and an education research fellow for The Heartland Institute, discussed her new book, Education Invasion: How Common Core Fights Parents for Control of American Children. She discussed how Common Core was introduced into American schools and what she learned by observing schools that implemented it early.
    In the third segment the guys discuss Defense Secretary James Mattis’ decision to delay allowing transgendered persons into the military. Also CNN doxes an anonymous Reddit user over a silly meme. Then, our federal yearly spending will top $4 Trillion for the first time.
    Then our “You can’t make this stuff up” feature returns and of course we have our Top Trump Tweet of the Week segment. Which tweet did we choose?

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 7-1-17 (Guest: Chris Jacobs)

    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Chris Jacobs, who is the founder of the Juniper Research Group and Senior Healthcare Policy Analyst with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, joins us to discuss the Senate’s healthcare reform bill.
    Then Shane and Chris Rohloff, who is filling in for Ron Carlson, discuss the Supreme Court’s decision in Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia v. Corner and how it impacts religious liberty. They decided for next term they will hear Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. A case that could determine whether or not LGBT rights trump the religious conscience rights of wedding service providers who do not want to serve same-sex wedding ceremonies.
    Plus, the Iowa Supreme Court effectively banned weapons from all county courthouses and justice centers. This supervisory ruling is in conflict with a new law that goes into effect today. Also, some counties are pushing back against the order.
