    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Shane Vander Hart talks to Brad Johnson, a 25-year veteran of the CIA, about his time in the Agency (what he could talk about anyway), and his thoughts on the media and members of the intelligence community leaking classified information.
    Shannon Joy joined Shane in the 2nd segement. Shannon Joy, who hosts the Shannon Joy Show on several radio stations in upstate New York, has been active in the fight against Common Core. She warned about the dangers of charter schools, as well as, the data collection that has become so pervasive in schools.
    Shane and Ron discussed the Iowa GOP Chair Jeff Kaufmann’s unprovoked attack of U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) at a rally for President Donald Trump in Cedar Rapids this week. Also, we listen to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) make an impassioned defense of the First Amendment during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this week.

    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers discuss Wednesday’s attack on Republican members of Congress and staffers in Alexandria, VA.
    We then are joined by Drew Zahn, the communications director for The FAMiLY Leader, who discussed our growing lack of civility in the political sphere. He shared about the upcoming Family Leadership Summit that is coming up on July 15 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center.
    The guys discuss the Southern Baptist Convention’s resolution denouncing the alt-right movement at their annual meeting this week. Also, they discussed The New York Times’ editorial board’s recent work of fiction.

    On Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week Shane Vander Hart discussed former FBI James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee this week sharing some of the key moments of the day
    Jenna Ellis, a law professor at Colorado Christian University and fellow at the Centennial Institute, joined Shane to share her analysis of “Comey Day” and if this will impact the Trump administration.
    Shane also discussed U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) outrageous remarks during the confirmation hearing for Russell Vought, President Trump’s choice for Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and the Budget, and what signals for Christians in public service in the future.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 6-3-17 (Paris Agreement & David Howell)
    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Brian Myers rejoins Shane Vander Hart as co-host. They discuss President Donald Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. They also reacted to some of the liberal reaction to Trump’s decision.
    Then, David Howell joined Caffeinated Thoughts Radio to discuss the work he is doing with Prison Evangelism reaching those in prison with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his book How to Be a Child of God. Howell has sent thousands of these books out and notes how open those in prison are to the Gospel.
    They guys then discuss the economy and the decrease we have seen with May’s unemployment numbers. Also, they discuss a draft rule, submitted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, that will expand conscience protections for religious organizations and business owners under Obamacare’s contraceptives mandate. Then, they discuss legal action taking place over President Trump’s travel ban.

    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, heard on 99.3fm The Truth, guest hosts Tim Overlin of Personhood Iowa and Kelvey Vander Hart join Shane Vander Hart.
    During the first segment, our guest is Star Parker, founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) in Washington, DC, a nationally syndicated columnist, and pro-life advocate. Paker discussed the importance of pregnancy centers, as well as, the personhood of the unborn babies we defend.
    Parker will speak in Iowa soon. He is keynoting a fundraiser for Hope for Life Pregnancy Center in Charles City, IA. The dessert reception is June 11 at 7:00p at the Youth Enrichment Center on the Floyd County Fairgrounds.
    During the second segment, our guest is JD Rucker, who co-founded The Federalist Party. He discussed why another political party is needed and how their strategy is different than other smaller “third” parties like the Constitution Party or Libertarian Party.
    In the third segment, Kelvey discusses the Professor Watch List started by Turning Point USA. Also, Iowa has a new governor! We discuss Governor Kim Reynolds’ decision about appointing a new Lieutenant Governor. We also discuss the Manchester bombing this week.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 5-20-17 (Matt Whitaker & Jessica Dunker)

    This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Jenifer Bowen of Life Right Action joined Shane Vander Hart as a guest co-host. Shane and Jenifer in the first segment talk to Matt Whitaker, a former U.S. Attorney under President George W. Bush, about the Comey memo and Robert Mueller’s appointment as special counsel for the Russia investigation. They later discussed Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller’s opinion that Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds will not have the authority to appoint a new Lieutenant Governor when she is sworn in as Governor upon Governor Terry Branstad’s resignation when confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to China.
    Jessica Dunker, the president and CEO of the Iowa Resturant Association, joins Jenifer and Shane during the second segment. She informs our listeners about what her organization does and the issues they work on, such as, a bill that prevented cities and counties from determining their minimum wage and other regulations that would make it burdensome for different restaurant chains in Iowa. Dunker also explained her organization’s view of the minimum wage explaining that there isn’t anyone in any of the restaurants they serve who currently only earns the minimum wage. She also discussed Iowa’s tip wage and how servers benefit.
    In the third segment, Jenifer discussed a new initiative Life Right Action launched on Mother’s Day – iwasunplanned.com. A website where those who were or whose child were the product of an unplanned pregnancy can share their stories.
    Also, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland announced they are closing four more clinics in Iowa making that a total of 20 closed since 2010.
    Then, why are the Turkish president’s bodyguards beating American protestors during a lawful protest and what is the United States going to do about it?

    This week Shane Vander Hart on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio hosted Pastor Phil Winfield who is the senior pastor of Grace Church in Des Moines. Pastor Winfield discussed Grace Church’s Des Moines Bible Initiative which is an idea born out of a ministry to indigenous peoples who lived in the Andes Mountains. They want to personally give a Bible to anyone in Des Moines who would like one.
    Shane then discussed the drama surrounding President Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey and the President’s uncanny knack of sabotaging White House communications efforts. Our producer Ron Carlson and Shane discussed Congressman Rod Blum’s decision to walk out of an interview with KCRG TV 9 before a town hall in Dubuque, IA. Also, they discussed Attorney General Jeff Sessions decision to order U.S. attorneys to charge defendants with the most serious, provable crimes carrying the most severe penalties that include drug offenses that carry mandatory sentencing minimums.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 5-6-17 (Guests: Terry Schilling & Kristin Held)
    On Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week, Shane Vander Hart, joined by his daughter Kelvey who is back home from college on Summer break, discussed the Equality Act with Terry Schilling, the executive director of American Principles Project.  Schilling believes such legislation would end religious liberty as we know it.
    Schilling also discussed a Townhall.com piece he wrote calling on the U.S. Senate to end the filibuster.
    Shane and Kelvey then spoke to Dr. Kristin Held, a practicing ophthalmologist, ophthalmic surgeon, and a clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Texas in San Antonio. She discussed what insurance companies and hospitals do to raise the cost of health care. She said that the insurance company lobby and hospital lobby were the biggest winners in the American Health Care Act that barely passed the U.S. House this week.
    Shane and Kelvey then discussed a Staples store that refused to print a flyer for a Christian-based government class. Then President Donald Trump took to Twitter this week in response to Hillary Clinton blaming her loss on the FBI. They also discussed President Trump’s latest executive order promoting free speech and religious liberty. Also in segment three, Shane points out the impact Obamacare has made on the individual insurance market in Iowa.
    Finally, Shane reminded viewers that Caffeinated Thoughts Radio could only stay on the air through the generosity of our sponsors.     This week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio, Vince Gebhart, an old friend of Brian Myers, joined Brian in the studio and Joel Kurtinitis filled in for Shane Vander Hart who was on a college visit with his youngest daughter Lily.
    Brian, Vince, and Joel discussed a recent op/ed, “Looking for the Real Bastards in South Sudan,” in Breitbart News with the author, Faith McDonnell who is the Director of Religious Liberty Programs and the Church Alliance for a New Sudan, at the Institute on Religion & Democracy.
    Dr. Calvin Beisner, founder and national spokesman for the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, joined the program. Beisner recently keynoted a series of forums in Illinois hosted by the Illinois Family Institute called Climate Change and the Christian. Climate Change advocates protested his speech in Rockford, IL because he doesn’t toe the progressive line about Climate Change.
    Plus, the U.S. Department of Justice under the Trump Administration has not dropped their lawsuit against the Little Sisters of the Poor for their refusal to include contraceptives in their health insurance coverage. Also, DNC Chair Tom Perez said his party would only support candidates who back abortion rights for women.
    Then, a transgender Baptist pastor spoke to the Alliance of Baptists. Say what?
    Brian, Vince, and Joel also discuss Trump’s tax reform plan and his softening position on NAFTA.

  • Caffeinated Thoughts Radio 4-22-17 (Jake Porter, John Thompson & Andy Foster)
    Shane Vander Hart flew solo this week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio but had a show packed full of guests. What do Jake Porter, the former Libertarian candidate for Governor and current executive director of the Libertarian Party of Iowa, and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad have in common? They both use Blackberry phones. That’s probably about it.
    Beyond being teased by Shane for using a Blackberry, they discussed the change of status for the Libertarian Party of Iowa and what that means for the future.
    John Thompson, Iowa Republican State Central Committee Member and candidate for State Treasurer, stopped by the studio to talk to Shane about his background, his campaign, and challenges he sees the Republican Party of Iowa possibly having the next two election cycles.
    Andy Foster also called in to discuss his perspective on the tension on the Korean Peninsula.  Foster served five years in South Korea, stationed there with the U.S. Army. He explained the danger South Korea (the Republic of Korea) faces if the United States enters into a conflict with the North Koreans.
