    On our Caffeinated Thoughts Radio show Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers discuss President Donald Trump’s choice for the Supreme Court, Judge Neal Gorsuch, with former U.S. Attorney Matt Whitaker. The guys also discussed President Trump’s recent executive order impacting refugees with Whitaker.
    Shane and Brian then discuss the Iowa Senate’s recent floor debate and vote in favor of Senate File 2 which reallocate state taxpayer funding away from abortion providers to federally qualified health centers and family planning organizations who do not provide abortion services. The bill is expected to pass the Iowa House and that Governor Terry Branstad will sign it into law.
    Plus, the U.S. House of Representatives vote to overturn an Obama gun rule. Also Donald Trump vows to make good on his promise to let churches engage in politics. Betsy DeVos’ nomination as Secretary of Education is jeopardy if one more Republican flips before the final confirmation vote on Monday. Then the Trump Administration says that starting new or expanding Israeli settlements in the West Bank “may not be helpful for peace.”

    Shane Vander Hart this week on Caffeinated Thoughts Radio discusses the 5th Commandment with Tim Challies who is a speaker, book reviewer, author and prolific Christian blogger. Challies founded Challies.com in 2002 and has written at it daily since 2003. Shane and Challies discussed how Americans and Canadians (Challies resides in Toronto, ON, CDN) don’t honor their parents very well in their old age and the best ways we can honor our parents as adults.
    Shane and Tim also discussed the forty things that God hates and why that is a difficult concept in our postmodern culture.
    Then Tim Overlin (it’s the Tims show!), the executive director of Personhood Iowa, dropped by the studio to discuss the Iowa Prayer for Life event that begins on Monday, February 6th with reception for pastors and legislators and ends Tuesday, February 7th with lunch and a program that will feature Jason Jones of Movie to Movement and Meagan Weber of And Then There Were None.     On Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week Jenifer Bowen of Iowa Right to Life and Life Right Action joined Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers in studio to discuss the launch of the Coalition of Pro-Life Leaders in Iowa. They discuss what brought it together, what it means for the pro-life community in Iowa, and what they hope to accomplish in the 2017 session of the 87th Iowa General Assembly.
    Mallory Quigley, the communications director for Susan B. Anthony List, called in the second segment to discuss the effort to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level, and their state-by-state and federal efforts to see a late term abortion ban pass.
    President-elect Donald Trump gave his first press conference since winning the election and it was yuge. The guys discuss his comments toward the media, in particular CNN and Buzzfeed.

    On Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers talk to William Jacobson,  founder of Legal Insurrection and a Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Securities Law Clinic at Cornell Law School in Ithaca, NY, about the anti-Israel resolution passed by the U.N. Security Council that the Obama administration failed to veto.
    Then Rev. Michael Ives, Pastor of the Presbyterian Reformed Church of Rhode Island, joins us. Ives is currently working on his PhD at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary and studying the life and ministry of 18th century Scottish theologian Thomas Chalmers. We discuss Chalmers’ view of how poverty should be addressed and what implications that should have on the Church today.
    Plus President Obama orders 35 Russian diplomats home and two facilities closed in response to what he claims was Russia’s attempt to influence the 2016 presidential election. CNN reports that Russia closed the Anglo-American School in response, but the Russian foreign ministry denies that. Russian President Vladimir Putin has states that his nation won’t respond in kind and they will act based on what President-elect Donald Trump’s policies toward Russia when he is sworn into office.
    Also a new polls shows that a majority of Democrats believe that Russia not only hacked into the Democratic National Committee, but that they somehow tampered with the vote tallies in the presidential election even though there is no evidence that shows that.
    Then what happened to people like Michael Wear in the Democratic Party?

    On Caffeinated Thoughts Radio this week Shane Vander Hart and Brian Myers continued the conversation about Calvinism and Limited Atonement from last week. Joining them was Bryan Peters, a student at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.
    In segment two the guys are joined by Chris Ingstad, the new president of Iowans for Tax Relief, who discussed his organization’s purpose and their priorities for the upcoming Iowa legislative session.
    Next Shane and Brian discuss the plea by some celebrities to 37 Republican electors to vote for anyone, but Trump in order to prevent him from getting the necessary 270 electoral votes to win. Then there is the move to make the Electoral College irrelevant by getting enough states to join the National Popular Vote compact. Jim Mower, who lost two congressional races in two districts, has launched a new PAC to try to achieve that goal.
    Then 1000 Muslims demand an Islamic caliphate… on the streets of London.
    And finally, Democrats oppose repealing Obamacare, but some said they are willing to work with Republicans to replace it if it is repealed.

    Brian and Shane also discussed Pastor Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, TX, call to move away from the debate on same-sex marriage. Jeffress was an early supporter of Donald Trump who has also taken a detente position on that issue as well.
    Also, the guys talk about Iowa Governor Terry Branstad’s appointment to be U.S. Ambassador to China and what that means for Iowa.
