What if I told you California just introduced a bill that could make it a felony to expose fraud, just for posting what you find online? That would be crazy! Clarification: I state in this episode that to violate AB 2624 results in a felony - but to clarify, per the bill text, an initial violation results in a $10,000 fine and one year imprisonment, while the threshold for a felony requires subsequent bodily injury. The direct text of AB2624 reads, "(2)A violation of this subdivision is punishable by a fine of up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) per violation, imprisonment of either up to one year in a county jail or pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 of the Penal Code, or by both that fine and imprisonment. (3)A violation of this subdivision that leads to the bodily injury of a designated immigration support services provider, employee, or volunteer, or other individuals residing at the same home address, is a felony punishable by a fine of up to fifty thousand dollars ($50,000), imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 of the Penal Code, or by both that fine and imprisonment."
