Is This Thing On?

Camaro ZL1 1LE Gets An Auto

In the past, the only way to get a 1LE Camaro, including the ZL1 1LE Camaro, was in manual transmission form. Well, everything you have known has now changed. Beginning the end of February 2019 you will be able to get the 10-speed automatic in the Camaro ZL1 1LE.

During development, Chevy engineers pushed the limits of the automatic transmission to be more than one half second faster than the standard manual on General Motors’ 2.9-mile Milford Road Course. In fact, on longer tracks like the Nürburgring where you can take advantage of the lightning-quick shifts and all 10 gears, drivers can expect to shave off several seconds from their previous lap times with the six-speed manual ZL1 1LE.

“This transmission is optimized for speed,” said Camaro Chief Engineer Mark Dickens. “With unique Track Mode calibrations and 10 gears, you are always in the perfect gear when rolling on or off the throttle. You may not be a professional race car driver, but now you can shift like one.”

The ZL1 1LE Track Performance Package has an MSRP of $7,500 and the available 10-speed automatic transmission an MSRP of $1,595.

200 Episodes of Camaro Fun

Jason made it back to master control studio (he calls studio north) this week! Welcome, Jason back to the studio. This is our 200th episode for the Camaro Show and looks back just a little bit.

Barrett-Jackson’s annual auction in Scottsdale, Arizona was last week. They auctioned off four of the original Transformers Camaro cars as a complete set for $500,000.00. All proceed are being donated to Operation Homefront.

Another example of airbag deployment was written about this week. This time a Camaro ZL1 doing an autocross event in which the airbags deployed for what appears to be an extremely minor incident.

Camaro Superfest 2019

Camaro Superfest is a weekend activity featuring the nation’s largest, longest-running, and friendliest all-Camaro car show. The vehicle that brought back the beloved moniker, IROC-Z and the all-new www.internationalraceofchampions.com is now available for purchase. Almost every aspect of the new IROC Motorsports Racing, Vehicles and Parts were developed on this vehicle. It currently has less than 13,000 miles on the odometer.

General Motors released their fourth-quarter sales figures this week. Camaro ended the year of 2018 on the side. Our friends over at Torque News talk about the sales of not only the Camaro for the year but also Mustang and Challenger.

Chevrolet will offer four “one-of-a-kind” Bumblebee Camaros as seen in the “Transformers” movies ‒ the original Camaro Bumblebee (Lot #3009) as seen in the first “Transformers” in 2007 and then modified for the follow-up movie, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen;” the 2010 Camaro (Lot #3009.1) as seen in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon;” the 2013 Camaro (Lot #3009.2) as seen in “Transformers: Age of Extinction;” and the 2016 Camaro (Lot #3009.3) as seen in “Transformers: The Last Knight.” The entire hammer price from the sale of these four Camaros – which will sell together as a group – will benefit Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families.
