On this edition of The Cancer Warrior, Mel sits down with Amber Masso the National Program Director of The American Childhood Cancer Organization. Amber, a 7 yr lymphoma survivor, was diagnosed right before her sophomore year in college. She talks about the importance of childhood cancer awareness and advocacy for parents, the child who has cancer, and the child's schoolmates and teachers.

On this edition of The Cancer Warrior, Mel talks with Craig Rodgers. Craig is one amazing survivor. More than one doctor said he wouldn't survive his cancer let alone brain surgery to remove his tumor which was wrapped around the left side of the motor strip of his brain. He had to search out a doctor to perform surgery to remove his tumor, making him only the 51st person in the world to have this particular brain surgery done. During one night of desperation Craig wanted to take his own life. A friend of his suggested he try cannabinoids to ease his pain. Craig has been an advocate for cannabis ever since. Mel sits down with Olympic Gold Medalist Shannon Miller. Shannon, the most decorated gymnast in American history was diagnosed with a malignant germ cell tumor, a form of ovarian cancer. Shannon's doctor found the tumor during a routine check up, which Shannon almost cancelled! A staunch health and fitness advocate, Shannon shares her story and tells how she is dedicated to empowering women to make their health a priority through education and awareness.

Mel sits down with 2 time cancer survivor Tim Buckland a 2 time testicular cancer survivor from Canada. Tim was diagnosed the first time in 2003 when he was 18 and at the time there were not a lot of resources for young adult cancer survivors in Canada. Tim talks about his experiences with cancer, including holding a Master of Science degree where he studied breast cancer protein modifications. Now Tim works for the Canadian Cancer Society helping to set up Relay for Life events around the country, and speaks to other young adult cancer survivors. EpicHappens spawned in 2009 between Marrisa Bennett and Matt Hodges when well, epic was indeed happening all around them. The idea was to start a sports promotion company in hopes to help young local talent in the ski/board world get recognized by a larger company who may be able to pick them up, therefore do what they love for a living. Chris Geiger was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and was given 3 months to live. That was 20 years ago. Now Chris is a prolific writer and public speaker. Chris sits down with Mel and talks about his diagnosis and the inspiration for his new book The Cancer Survivors Club, a book of stories from other cancer survivors. When Chris was diagnosed he looked for books written by other survivors but found only books written by celebrities, and nothing written about what got them through their treatment. Chris' book is filled with stories to inspire and encourage anyone affected by this disease.

Lauren Terrazzano was a Newsday reporter, and loved her work, writing about many social issues that most journalists overlook. But Lauren's biggest story came when she was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 36. She decided to put a human face on this often-misunderstood disease by chronicling her personal battle with lung cancer in her New York Newsday column “Life, with Cancer.” Lauren pulled no punches when it came to the disease and sadly 8 months after her diagnosis she passed away. Mel sits down with Lauren's father Frank Terrazzano. Lauren always wanted to write a book, and since passed before she was able to Frank co-authored a book with Paul Lonardo about Lauren's cancer in "Life, with Cancer" The book honors Lauren's life and tells the story about this amazing woman. Mel sits down with her good friend Stacy to talk about being your own best advocate. Stacy's friend Kay was diagnosed with an extremely rare lung cancer called small cell non differential lung cancer. Not many people have had a cancer so rare, and sadly Kay passed away. Stacy talks about the importance of being a friend and caregiver, getting a second opinion and being your own best advocate.
