Hey Cannon Cruisers fans! Randy here! Start spreading the news... This week, JD and I check out Joe Dante's Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, with Christopher Lee joining the chaos. Gizmo's arrival in a high-tech New York skyscraper leads to another outbreak of Gremlins, only this time the creatures have an entire building full of new ways to cause trouble.
JD and I talk about how Gremlins 2 turns a sequel into a satire of sequels themselves, repeating pieces of the original while deliberately pushing everything further. The cartoon influence comes up often, especially once the movie starts treating its Gremlins more like animated characters than horror monsters. We also get into Joe Dante's willingness to interrupt the movie for a joke, including the different fourth-wall gags created for theatrical and home-video versions.
Watch out, they bite!
