The Casual Hour

Johnny’s dealing with a stomach bug, so it’s just Bobby and Chase for this one. Bobby’s back from a Mexican vacation and played a lot of Switch indie ports on the plane. Chase continues to waste his life with Destiny, but at least things are new with the Festival of the Lost event. And we cover a bevy of news from around the industry, including an achievement that’s just being earned five years after a game’s release. All that and more on this edition of The Casual Hour!

We’re previewing the games of September, but before that, we’ve got some Nintendo Nindies news to cover, including the uncrowned game of 2018, Into The Breach, which surprise released on the day of this recording! Outside of those topics, Johnny and Bobby wax poetically about some game called Cyberpunk something or other. Who cares, really? (Can you tell Chase writes these episode descriptions?) We break down the coming releases of August while pondering the eternal question: Bobby’s back and that’s big news, but not as big as our new and improved news segment. Once each month, we’ll review a few of the news items that caught our eye the previous four weeks and give you our ice cold takes on them. Also, we’ve been playing some video games. Johnny has boarded the Into The Breach hype train, Bobby’s deep in Switch demos and Chase dives into the newly stealth released Bad North. All that and Cracker Barrel stories on this edition of The Casual Hour!

This time it’s Bobby who’s missing in action, so Chase and Johnny decide to take this time to discuss their new obsession: Dead Cells. From strategies to comparisons to impressions we dive deep on this new roguelike experience. Other than Dead Cells, Johnny’s been making headway in Pokemon Ultra Sun, and getting beaten by his own son in Hole.io while Chase breaks through on Holedown, is disappointed by Galak-Z Variant S and finally gets his hands on Into The Breach now that it’s out on Mac. When the Johnny’s away, the mice will play…play Destiny that is. Chase and Bobby take advantage of the absence to talk about our thoughts on the upcoming Forsaken expansion. Guns in new slots, new weapon types, randomized loot, brand new exotics: We cover it all. Meanwhile, Bobby’s putting the finishing touches on Pokemon Pearl, Chase has finished Pokemon Ultra Moon and we both have played Dead Cells, but we’ll wait for Johnny before we get too in depth on that. All that and the low down on Holedown on this edition of The Casual Hour!

We break down the coming releases of August while pondering the eternal question: How many 2D Dark Souls style games can there be in one month? Outside of that discussion, Johnny’s ready for a second round of No Man’s Sky, Bobby continues to plow through Pokemon and Chase has mercifully finished Super Robot Wars X and moved onto other equally as long winded RPGs. All that and more on this edition of The Casual Hour.

Apparently, last week’s episode didn’t get Pokemon completely out of our system, as we spend a third of this week’s podcast talking about the franchise as well. Once that’s finished, Johnny talks Overcooked co-op while Bobby and Chase take some time for Captain Toad on the Switch. Then it’s time for our mid-year check in. What’s everybody’s current top five before the big fall games drop? Find out on this edition of The Casual Hour!
