  • A Conversation with Staci Frenes
Singer/songwriter and self-taught musician Staci Frenes has immersed herself in writing to uncover and make sense of the mysteries and chaos of life. From the tender age of 12, music has been the unmistakable key to her salvation and self-discovery. Not a matter of happenstance or something she just fell into, but one deliberate decision after another to cultivate songs and stories into something strong and beautiful and brave.
It’s rarely been easy. Being an independent artist is an all-guts, no-glory proposition. With every new effort comes the challenge of connecting and marketing and improving your craft. But eight records in, this UC-Berkeley graduate and former English teacher has enjoyed successes she hadn’t dared to dream.

  • The Catch Episode #32 with Marshall Snider of Bridgetown Inc.
BridgeTown Inc. is an impactful movement propelled by the mission of loving people because people matter.
"Every organization has a story, and we are no exception. What we did not start with, however, was a five or ten year plan. The summer of 2003 saw a move from the country to the city with a sweet expectation, and a little trepidation to see what was in store. One year. That’s what we took.
One year to listen… Listen to the pulse and hum of the beautiful city of Portland, Listen to her people & Listen to the echoes of our hearts
It didn’t take long before the imprinting took place – a deep and restless love. A concern for people in the margins… and for people in corner offices and in suits. A love for people. In 2004, we gathered a few friends together to sweep some dirty streets, and found a deep and gratifying satisfaction in the many conversations around the “Why” of our actions. No, we were not correcting previously deviant behaviors through physical labor – we just thought the streets look nicer if they are clean. And it is true.
Soon after that, a quiet voice made some noise in our hearts. Wash feet. No reason. It would be easy to leap here to having answers before the questions are even uttered, but we had learned by now, that when one listens, there is often something spoken. The real trick is to lean in… So lean we did, and Night Strike was born.
Each week from then until now, you will find us. Setting the table for others to listen. To love, to be loved, to be known. A calling back. A calling forward. Dynamic, moving, telling and retelling, and listening and hearing.
There is so much more to this story as the BridgeTown story remains to be fully unfolded. What’s important is that we choose to be a part of that story."

  • The Catch Episode #30 with Ralph and Sherrie Buffa
Ralph and Sherrie Buffa have lived for almost 45 years in a house they designed and built in the redwoods off of Skyline Blvd. south of San Francisco. When Marti and John got married, they rented a tiny one bedroom cabin probably 200 yards from the Buffa’s as the crow flies, but you would have to have been a crow to go that way because of the steep terrain that made you have to take the long and winding road to get there. Ralph and Sherrie had just become Christians when the four of them met so when John and Marti each started their own discipleship groups, Sherrie joined Marti’s group and Ralph joined John’s. They both studied the New Covenant passage out of 2 Corinthians and will be talking together with John and Marti about how that first study has affected their lives ever since.
