Biographie

Daniel Jean (https://sciencessociales.uottawa.ca/affaires-publiques-internationales/personnes/jean-daniel) a été conseiller auprès du Premier Ministre du Canada en matière de renseignement et sécurité nationale (2016-2018). Auparavant, il a occupé les fonctions de sous-ministre des Affaires étrangères (2013-2016) et sous-ministre de Patrimoine canadien (2010-2013). De 2007 à 2010, il a occupé divers postes importants de sous-ministre, tout d’abord comme secrétaire délégué au Conseil du Trésor et ensuite sous-secrétaire (Opérations) au Bureau du Conseil Privé. Avant d’être nommé sous-ministre, Daniel a connu une carrière stimulante dans les domaines des relations internationales et des questions de migration au Canada et à l’étranger avec deux affectations en Haïti, deux affectations distinctes aux Etats Unis, d’abord à Buffalo et Washington et une à Hong Kong. Il a reçu une Prime d’excellence de la Fonction publique et un Prix de l’Association professionnelle des Agents du Service extérieur pour ses efforts suite au coup d’Etat ayant déposé le premier gouvernement démocratiquement élu en Haïti en 1991. Daniel est diplômé de l’Université d’Etat de New York à Buffalo avec un M.B.A.. Il a complété ses études de premier cycle à l’Université d’Ottawa où il a complété un B.A. en Sciences Sociales avec une spécialisation en Relations internationales et une concentration en Economie. Il agit présentement à titre bénévole comme président du conseil d’administration de Centraide Outaouais.

Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé est Professeure Agrégée au département de politiques et d’études internationales à l’Université Bishop’s et directrice adjointe du Réseau de recherche sur les opérations de la paix.

Thomas Juneau est professeur adjoint à l'École supérieure d'affaires publiques et internationales à l'Université d'Ottawa. Ses intérêts de recherche portent principalement sur le Moyen-Orient, en particulier sur l'Iran et le Yémen.

Guest Biographies:

Dr. Victor Asal is the Director of the Centre for Policy Research and a policy Professor at the University of Albany. Dr. Asal is also involved with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence. Dr. Asal’s research is focused on the various types of violence by nonstate organizational actors and the causes that lead to political discrimination by states against different groups such as sexual minorities, women and ethnic groups.

Dr. Barbara Perry is the Director of the Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism and a Professor in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Dr. Perry has vast knowledge in the areas of right-wing extremism and hate crime and has written extensively on these areas. She has also published books on the Native American victimization and social control, including The Silent Victims: Native American Victims of Hate Crime, and Policing Race and Place: Under- and Over-enforcement in Indian Country. Dr. Perry continues to focus on the areas of hate crime and right wing extremism, continuing to contribute to the limited scholarship in these areas in Canada.
