    Since June of 2014, Peggy Mason has been the President of the Rideau Institute, an independent think tank with a mandate to help revitalize Canada’s peacekeeping, diplomatic peacemaking and peacebuilding roles in the world, through inclusive multilateralism, strengthening the UN capacity for conflict prevention and peaceful conflict resolution and the progressive enhancement of international law. https://rideauinstitute.ca/governance/
    Todd Sharp is an Integrated Air and Missile Defence Officer at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 33 years, acquiring over 5000 flying hours as an Air Navigator in Search and Rescue and Air Transport, and was Commanding Officer of 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron, in Comox BC. He completed his military career overseas, as the Air and Missile Defence Advisor to the Joint Canadian Delegation to NATO until 2018, and then joined NATO’s International Staff in the Defence Investment Division. He is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, and holds a master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London.
    Sarah Mineiro is a Fellow at the Center for a New American Security and currently works at Anduril Industries as the senior director for space strategy. Sarah has worked within the national security and defense sector for over 15 years. Previously, Sarah was the Staff Lead for the Strategic Forces Subcommittee for the House Armed Service Committee (HASC). She led the Subcommittee’s legislative and oversight activities of all Department of Defense and Military Intelligence Program space programs, U.S. nuclear weapons, missile defense, directed energy, and hypersonic systems. Sarah was the senior legislative advisor to Ranking Member Mac Thornberry on all strategic forces issues. In this role she was the primary drafter and negotiator of the Space Force and Space Command legislation for the House Republicans. https://www.cnas.org/people/sarah-mineiro

    Participant’s Bio:
    Darren Hawco is a retired naval officer with 36 years of service to Canada. The youngest of four boys, Hawco was born in Montreal where he was fortunate enough to grow up in a loving home, attending local primary and secondary schools prior to joining the Canadian Armed Forces through enrollment in the College Militaire Royale de St-Jean (CMR) regular officer training program.
    Ross Fetterly retired in 2017 from the Canadian Forces after a 34-year career as the Royal Canadian Air Force’s director of air comptrollership and business management.  He previously served as the military personnel command comptroller, and in other senior positions with the Department of National Defence Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance).
    A 39 year veteran of uniformed service to Canada, Mark Norman retired from the Royal Canadian Navy in the rank of Vice-Admiral in August of 2019 after a high-profile public legal challenge. He is now applying his energy and passion to new challenges. As a CGAI Fellow, Norman intends to explore naval strategy, maritime affairs, defence policy and procurement with particular interests in the Arctic and the South China Sea.
    Dr. Binyam Solomon is Senior Defence Scientist at Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC). He is also an Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University. Previous appointments include Chief Economist, Department of National Defence and acting Chief Scientist at the Centre for Operational Research and Analysis (DRDC). He has published extensively in economics, statistics, and defence topics. His research interests include political economy, aspects of national security, peacekeeping economics, and time series methods. Dr. Solomon holds a PhD in Defence Economics from the University of York, United Kingdom.

    Jean Chrétien CC, PC, OM, QC, prime minister of Canada 1993–2003, lawyer, author, politician (born 11 January 1934 in Shawinigan, QC). Lawyer and longtime parliamentarian Jean Chrétien was Canada’s 20th prime minister. Early in his political career, Chrétien helped negotiate the patriation of the Canadian constitution as well as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As Prime Minister, he led the federal government to its first surplus in nearly 30 years.

    Participant’s Bio:
    Dr. James Fergusson is a Professor in the Department of Political Studies, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Defence and Security Studies. He teaches a range of courses in the fields of international relations, strategic studies, Canada-US defence relations, and Canadian Foreign and Defence Policy. He recently completed a ten year appointment to the Defence Science Advisory Board, and a six year position as Honorary Colonel of the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Studies. He is currently the Honorary Colonel of 2 Canadian Air Division.
    Timothy Choi is completing his Ph.D. at the University of Calgary's Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies, where his dissertation is entitled, “Maritime Strategies of the North: The Seapower of Smaller Maritime Forces in an Era of Broadened Security.” It asks how the Danish, Norwegian, and Canadian maritime forces developed in response to the adoption and legitimization of the 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone, and whether smaller forces have generalizable differences in such responses compared to larger ones. This has seen him sailing with Danish and Norwegian patrol vessels to gain deeper insights into the tactical level of peacetime naval activities. He is a former Smith Richardson Predoctoral Fellow at Yale University's International Security Studies, where he worked with Professor Paul Kennedy, and is also a Research Fellow at Dalhousie University's Centre for the Study of Security and Development. He serves on the editorial board of and is the photo editor at the Canadian Naval Review.
    Charlotte is the Ottawa Operations Manager and a Fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. She completed a Master in Military History at Queen’s University, during which she started researching on the toxic culture of leadership in the Canadian Armed Forces during the 1990s and its impact on gender integration, which had started in 1989. She continues to study leadership and culture change issues in the military in her free time.
