Dr. Holly Swyers was my professor at Lake Forest College of Sociology & Anthropology (SOAN). Our relationship developed when I decided to double major in American Studies & SOAN and I would have to take a number of required classes taught by them. It was the beginning of so many conversations and discussions. This one is no different talking about identity and education.

Their Bio:

Holly Swyers earned her PhD in anthropology at the University of Chicago for her work on how American high school culture sets the terms and conditions by which young people understand their connection to the American nation-state. Her work was inspired by her experiences working for the Center for Collaborative Education in New York City in the 1990s. Her later work has continued to focus on U.S. culture. She researched the way community is formed and maintained in the U.S. for her book Wrigley Regulars: Finding Community in the Bleachers, published in 2010. In recent years, she has led "The Adulthood Project," a team-based ethnographic project investigating American adulthood. This project seeks to contextualize apparent trends in education, career building, and marriage and family life within U.S. history, tracing changes in the experience of race, class, and gender and contrasting them with the continuity of "productive citizenship" as the measure of adulthood. She also created the “Beyond Political Divides” project, an exploration of ideas from people across the U.S. political spectrum. Now a full professor at Lake Forest College in Illinois, Swyers is developing a project to explore the changing landscape of U.S. families.

Farron and I met at a dreaming session of a school that could and would be founded on liberation. Farron, a facilitator and consultant talks all the isms, fat phobia, and how hair has been a journey in conjunction with their gender identity. Enjoy! 

Their Bio: 

I am a facilitator, organizer of wealth redistribution, movement builder, and have been committed to social justice since the age of 16. I am a fat, black, queer, trans-non binary (afab), who grew up working class poor. 

I believed that I had to compartmentalize myself if I wanted to be in certain spaces, but every time I left parts of myself it felt like a painful denial of my whole self- it felt like I wasn’t acknowledging that the reason why I am able to create, vision, collaborate, and execute is because of ALL of my identities, not despite it. 

I am continuously practicing to bring my whole self at all times, that’s my commitment and i can support you in doing the same. My offerings are rooted in my expertise in facilitation and movement work for the last 18 years.

Hailing from Montserrat, West Indies, Jadine migrated to the U.S. at the age of 8. Though she swiftly integrated into her new home, she brought much of her island culture with her. With a great love for costume design and production, she is actively involved in international carnivals and the Caribbean music scene. Her keen eye for detail and quality led her to Barneys New York, where she spent many years advising a wide range of clients. Jadine’s experience in the luxury goods market, coupled with her unique sense of style, made Dove and Donkey the perfect collaboration.
