On today’s episode of The Chaise Lounge, Nick May has a conversation with Genevieve Trousdale of Circaphiles. Nick and Genevieve share a passion for helping others and bringing value to their industries.

I’ve always nurtured my relationships with my vendors because I can’t do my job without them and this console table is not going to have as pretty as a finish if I rely on somebody else so it’s really important to build a relationship and nurture it.

  • Kendall Wilkinson: Hiring a COO for Interior Design | S27E13
To the public eye, you might seem like an overnight success. For our next guest, her overnight success came after over 20 years of hard work. This week on The Chaise Lounge, Nick May is joined by Kendall Wilkinson of Kendall Wilkinson Design.

Kendall grew up in California where she started her career in the film business. She decided to take a break and vacationed in Paris where she fell in love with architecture. She decided to change career paths and studied interior design. She started her company after a short stint in her mother’s design firm. Kendall Wilkinson Design is a full service design firm. She has also delved into indoor and outdoor fabrics inspired by her travels to such places as Paris and Mexico. Kendall hired a COO so that she can focus on design and have more freedom in her business and life. Let’s see how a COO can help you as well!

If you’re going to have a partner, you want to make sure you have a partner who does the exact opposite as you do, but you are coming from the same level of wanting to get to the end result but you’re both going about it in a different way because of the skills one has versus the other.

  • Sustainable Interior Design with Sarah Walker | S27E12
One way to think of Covid in a positive mindset is that it certainly has made people more aware of their physical and mental health. On this week’s episode of The Chaise Lounge, Sarah Walker of The Curated House joins Nick May where they talk about sustainable interior design.

Furniture and other décor items are not manufactured with health in mind. They are made with toxins that give us higher chances of being diagnosed with a serious disease. That is where Sarah comes in to save the day!

Learn more about The Curated House by visiting their website www.thecuratedhouse.com. Be sure to see what Sarah is up to on her Instagram @thecuratedhouse. Take a look at her course on sustainable design www.dwellingwelldesignacademy.com.

You need to address your built environment as a radical act of self care as a way of investing in your health and well being. That’s really what it is. It’s either going to positively contribute to living in your optimal state of well being or it’s going to hijack your health with those hidden toxins.

Going to school to further your education while raising your children is an admirable act. This week’s guest, Jackie Armour with JMA Interior Design, joins Nick May on The Chaise Lounge. It was Jackie’s life mission to graduate, earning a degree in architecture.

From Delray Beach, Florida, Jackie went to school at the University of Florida. She started her business by winning a contest which entitled her to be on the front page of the local newspaper. NIck and Jackie discuss how things have changed in business, marketing, and being open-minded and flexible to get a design project completed. With 25 years in business, JMA Interior Design specializes in new construction.

New construction really allows you to be a lot more creative. And of course depending on who the architect is, but we have so much more flexibility in terms of checking the footprint of the house. We get heavily involved.

  • Coast to Coast Design Co-Host Lisa Davenport | S27E8
Many memories are made with our grandparents that we carry into adulthood. They teach us important lessons and make us laugh. Joining Nick May on The Chaise Lounge this week is Lisa Davenport of LDD Interiors.

Lisa co-hosts the Coast to Coast Design podcast with fellow friend and designer Garrison Hullinger. Nick’s friendship with both Lisa and Garrison came from the power of podcasting and being in the interior design world.

LDD Interiors incorporates the client’s personality and history into their designs. With offices in Connecticut and Naples, Florida, Lisa is helping Nick’s own parents move down to Florida and design their new space. Now that’s a strong friendship!

If we can’t laugh at some of our mistakes, we should learn from our mistakes. But if we can’t laugh at some of them, get out of the business. Get out. Life is too short not to laugh at some of this stuff.

  • Designer Advantage and Hiring with Amy Kartheiser | S27E5
Some guests on panel episodes have the energy that we like to look for. Our next guest was on a panel in Season 26 and we decided to bring her back. Amy Kartheiser (Amy Kartheiser Design) returns to The Chaise Lounge with Nick May.

Amy got into interior design after years of working in a sales position that taught her a lot about business. She later bought her own loft and skipped out on work to go with her mom to the markets and pick out items for her place. She realized she liked designing so much that she started her own firm.

Amy also shares her passion for suicide prevention and her charity Under the Same Sky she founded inspired by her family’s personal experience with suicide. Under the Same Sky launches November 21st.

To me that’s like A number 1 when you’re running a business is customer service and that job really taught me everything - not everything I needed to know about running a design business, but taught me what the important points are in running a business. So I’m forever grateful for it.
