  • How I Became An Interior Designer with Christine Markatos Lowe | S27E4
Our next guest started down the path of fine art and sculpting. A mentor later directed her down a path to interior design. Hailing from the east coast, Christine Markatos Lowe (Christine Markatos Design) joins Nick May on The Chaise Lounge today.

Having earned an MSA in sculpture, Christine’s professor suggested she become an interior designer. She worked for prominent architecture firms and learned the business before she started her own firm in 2005. Based in Los Angeles, Christine Markatos Design specializes in custom residential design with a modern, yet classical influence.

Learn more about Christine Markatos Design by visiting their website at www.markatosdesign.com.

So I feel like everybody is in the same place and in some ways, I haven’t thought about this before, but maybe it’s almost more equalizing because if you’re working and you’re at home you’re no different than somebody who’s not working and at home. Suddenly everybody is on this same playing field.

  • Sports, Networking and Interior Design with Bre Hance | S27E2
From college athlete to sports broadcasting to interior design - this week’s guest seems to have done it all. Today on The Chaise Lounge, Nick May is joined by Bre Hance of InHance Interiors.

Having played basketball from a young age and through college, a lot of Bre’s life had revolved around sports. She had been a sports reporter for her school and she had to stop because she couldn’t bring herself to critique the quarterback, who was her friend. She was thrown into interior design by way of her husband’s development company and now specializes in high end residential design/build. Being a social butterfly has helped grow her network consisting of people who know her, like her and trust her.

Learn more about InHance Interiors by visiting www.inhanceinteriors.com. Also be sure to check her out on Instagram @inhance_interiors.

It’s about how many people know you, like you and trust you. It’s something that has really stuck with me because it’s been instrumental in my growth. Even now, referral business and the things that I’m doing, it kind of just starts to take off and just snowball. It’s been awesome for me.

  • Hospitality Design with Christopher Ritchie | S27E1
Our next guest grew up in the great outdoors of Montana and Wyoming before taking a path down interior design. On today’s season premiere of The Chaise Lounge, Nick May sits down with Chris Ritchie of Christopher Zoltan Design.

Chris Ritchie has a tight relationship with design. His mother was the designer for Yellowstone National Park and later had him help in her Atlanta firm. After his mother passed, he paved his own path to interior design and now has a successful design firm. Christopher Zoltan Design, based in Washington DC, specializes in hospitality and furniture design. Chris’ eye for furniture helped him get in the door of well-known hotel brands such as MGM Grand, Bellagio and Hollywood.

It’s not about me I always tell my team. It’s about us. And when the client feels that, they come into our very cool office, they feel like it’s a whole team. They get the project, they get what’s going on, they understand it. It’s not just me pitching it. So I think that’s what’s really important with all of us.

And I think because I did so many different types of clients in New York even with that my network just expanded a lot. So how do you do it? You know it’s weird. I guess you just have to be really courageous and just go for it. You just go and talk to as many people as you can.

People don’t realize how things have changed. When I first got into the business you used to be able to order fabrics without a problem because most of those vendors would keep that fabric on their shelves. And now if you needed to order something that’s not a hot seller, you have to wait for it to be made.

  • Here’s an Idea: High Point Market Year Round | S26E16
High Point Market year round? We think YES! On today’s episode of The Chaise Lounge, Nick May is joined by Carol Gregg, Gary Inman and Dudley Moore, Jr. They are some of the people involved in making High Point By Design happen.

With just bi-annual week-long events, there is a group of people that think the High Point Market should be open year round. They’re calling it High Point By Design. Here’s what they have to say.

Learn more about High Point By Design by visiting www.hpxd.org and be sure to check out their Instagram @highpointxdesign.

I think there will be consumers that will want to come and shop High Point and they’ll realize they need an export to help them do that. They can’t possibly do it on their own. So I think for those of us in the region there are probably going to be referrals and I would like to come and help someone shop High Point. I kind of know it like the back of my hand after 50 trips down there.

  • Sustainable and Holistic Interior Design with Marcy Garcia | S26E13
Living a healthy life includes living in a space you love. With our next guest, sustainability and mindfulness come together to do just that. Today, Marcy Garcia (MG Design Lab) joins Nick May on The Chaise Lounge.

Based in Miami, MG Design Lab takes your health into account when designing your environment. Her own struggle with infertility made her realize that there are chemicals and products in design that are not the best to share a space with. A native of Columbia, she came to San Francisco and never went back. She decided that design was the career change she needed, and after a brief employment at a design firm moved to Miami and started her own firm. Marcy admits she still has knowledge to be gained in business.

To learn more about what Marcy is doing, visit her website www.themgdesignlab.com and follow her on Instagram @themglab.

Check out what Nick and Walls By Design are doing at www.wallsbydesign.com.

I know that i’m not good at certain aspects of the business. Now that I'm more interested in being a business owner than just a designer, I just need to hire a mentor. I need to hire a coach. I need to hire people that give me that knowledge.
