In this episode we have the pleasure of having our friend Ayebatonye on the podcast with us. Ayebatonye is a DJ and interdisciplinary artist based in Sydney. In this conversation, we talk about the allowances that black people give to white and non black POC in conversations about racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. We talk about why we shouldn't centre white voices in our conversations and being critical of the voices and authors popular culture often props up. We talk about black people who have chosen to disengage from the movement and discuss why self preservation can be a valid choice to make for your own sake.

In this episode, we continue the conversation which we begun last week about the complexity in the relationship between black women and black men. We have our friends (and sisters) Dara and Judy on to discuss how differences between the way society sees black women compared to black men. We look at how black men can be the cause of a lot of the sexism and misogyny directed at black women. We explore why being "strong" is not the compliment it's made out to be for black women. We discuss how being pro-black is not always a given in black people who date other black people. We explore the complexity in raising biracial children and how critical it is to understand the impact of parental attitudes can have on their identy.

In this episode we are joined by our friends Osazee and Alieu who give us their perspective as black men who date outside of their race.  We discuss interracial dating and the judgement that comes from the African community and particularly African women. We ask whether you can be "pro-black" and date outside your race and whether dating non-black women says something about how you view yourself as a black man. 

WE'RE BACK! Welcome to season 3 of the Champagne Breakfast Podcast. This season we are going to be getting more real and personal then ever before. Starting with this week's episode which explores how personal journies with coming to terms with our physical appearance and how that impacts our desirability. We talk about how we have come to form the opinions and perspectives we have about our bodies based on our experiences. We ask ourselves how much of an hinderance (or not) our appearance have been in how we relate to others especially men we may be interested in.

In this week's episode we chat to some good friends of ours, Rob and Denise, about their modern love story which features tinder, a sexist tango instructor and hunger pains. We compare and contrast online/app dating experiences, and how the taboo surrounding this method of dating is slowly lifting. Then we ask about the tough conversations and individual realisations they've had over their time dating since Rob is white and Denise is black. We ask questions about how necessary it is to have a partner that can relate to you on the same level on issues of race and injustice.

After a week of what seems like blow after blow to black women worldwide we express how fed up we are at the seemingly constant disrespect black women face. We talk about stereotypes and typecasts that often plague black women and obstruct the path to creating an individual self identity. We talk about the role black men play and should play in uplifting and supporting black women. We, as black women, are tired of showing up for people who do not show up for us in turn. 

In this week's episode we welcome Jade back to talk in more details about the Church's response to the current Black Lives Matter movement, discussions on systematic racism and police brutality. We share our opinions on whether we think the response has been thorough enough or whether it is performative in nature. At the centre of it, we analyse whether the church has a problem with discussing race in a genuine and serious way. Then we ask ourselves critical questions about the church we know, love and have attended for many years. 

It's the one year aniiversary of The Champagne Breakfast Podcast! To celebrate we gather with the other half of Champagne Breakfast. We discuss the expectation vs reality of 2020 so far. Then we change course and reflect on the big issue facing the world right now with the resurgence of the #Blacklivesmatter movement. We ask ourselves whether silence makes you complicit and the importance of advocacy and allyship at this time. 

This week's episode is a continuation of last week's discussion around the hoe phase. We invite our friend Tolu to weigh in from a man's perspective, as we take a look at what constitute's a male hoe phase. We also discuss the impact of a body count, why a hoe phase may be necessary and how old is too old.

Is the "hoe phase" a rite of passage? In today's episode we discuss why this sentiment may be problematic, our own internalised biases when it comes to women exploring and expressing their sexuality & the different attitudes men and women have towards the hoe phase.
