Acquisitions are crucible moments for leaders. They test the leader's ability to identify, gain and protect the value of organisations. For some leaders, acquisitions are exciting adventures beyond the rigour of keeping businesses on track. For other leaders, acquisitions are grand annoyances, a distraction from what is important. Whatever your perspective, acquisitions need to be taken seriously. They can be great opportunities that take your business to the next level. Acquisitions can also be expensive misadventures that dramatically destroy value.

In the words of Robert F. Smith “With the exception of warfare, [Mergers and Acquisitions] is how assets are transferred on this planet”. If you really think about that statement, it means any leader in pursuit of significance will need to understand how acquisitions work.
