A sculpture that commemorates the role and sacrifices that the South African health workers are making to help South Africa get through the Covid-19 pandemic has been donated and installed at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg, where it was unveiled next week Wednesday.

Says Children with health conditions often experience feelings of loneliness and anxiety and the interactive sculpture donation will delight the senses of the young patients during their healing journey.

Mallory Montgomery, an art therapist at Henry Ford Health System says Art is healing because it forces you to forge a connection between your mind and your body. Unlike exercise, which works your body, or meditation, which clears your mind, art-making accesses both mind and body to promote healing.

 The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts (CCA) will host this year’s Durban International Film Festival which will be held on the 22nd of July  to the 1st of  August 2021. The festival will screen over 130 selected films, most of them premiere screenings in this region; host seminars and workshops and include screenings of student films.

South African contemporary artists Ayanda Mabulu and Turiya Magadlela recently made waves at the Art in Paris recent auction. The auction was an exhibition of an impressive collection of 232 artworks by 142 artists from 26 countries on the continent.

Mabulu’s (South Africa 1981-), Nontsundu, 2018  was sold for  €23 035 and Magadlela’s (South Africa 1978-), Walking Spirits IV, V and VI, triptych (from the Inequalities series), 2018/2019 | sold for  €20 325, breaking the highest international sales record for each artist to date since the beginning of their professional career.
