The Javett Art Centre in Pretoria with this weekend Saturday 20 November hosting Albert Luthuli Day featuring dance, marimba band, and jazz performances, discussions, education and visual art exhibitions.

Including the November exhibitions and public programmes, Javett-UP houses amongst others, the Javett Foundation’s collection of 20th century South African art, which contains a number of significant works: the AngloGold Ashanti Collection and the Mapungubwe Gold, an archaeological collection which is historically and culturally important for South Africa, the southern African region and the world, and featuring the golden rhino.

The musical Shaka Zulu: The Gaping Wound recently opened at The South African State Theatre.The musical is written by playwright Bongani Linda and retold by and directed by award-winning actor and theatre maker Meshack Mavuso-Magabane. The musical is a celebration of the life and legacy of Shaka kaSenzangakhona, the founder of the Zulu Kingdom from 1816 to 1828.

The University of Johannesburg Art Gallery is presenting The Blind Alphabet – Sculpture and Sound from 27 October to 24 November. This is a hybrid event comprising a physical exhibition with walkabouts as well as an online component with a Zoom webinar on YouTube and the UJ Gallery’s Facebook page.

” The Blind Alphabet, an English dictionary written in Braille, is intended as a way to get blind people to help sighted exhibition visitors to discover the meaning of the wooden sculptures, contained in mesh caskets intended for interpretation by visually impaired visitors.”
