LaNitra M. Berger is an award-winning scholar, educator, and social justice advocate working towards making higher education accessible to low-income, first-generation, and minority students. Her scholarly interests are in art and social activism in the African and Jewish diasporas. For over 15 years, her work as an educator focuses on creating and expanding education abroad opportunities for underrepresented students, particularly in international education. As a social justice advocate, she supports student activism through her teaching, advising, public speaking, and research. Who was in South Africa on 22 June to hold a lecture at the JCAF about “When Do Black Lives Matter? Irma Stern's Representations of Black Women in the Global South”

Latitudes online, a platform for art collectors to explore and buy contemporary art from Africa recently launched their first annual prize for women identifying artists, the ANNA Award. Two female-centric South African brands have joined forces to create an exciting new art award. The aim of the award is to discover, recognize and nurture a new generation of women artists in South Africa. For both ANNA and Latitudes, it is crucial that the ANNA Award is as inclusive as possible. As such, no formal art training is required in order to apply, there are no age restrictions for applicants, and the competition is open to women artists

working in any medium. “We're trying to reach as many artists as possible at the moment, to give them the opportunity to win the R100,000 cash prize and one-month residency”.

Directed by Eh!woza’s Sam Flans with camera work by Alfa Fipaza, narrated by Pearl Thusi and with commentary by advocacy campaign Youth Capital.

Made In SA – Due to financial difficulties at her law firm brought on by Covid, Hlamarisa Ndaba (33) founded her interior design business. Hlamarisa, who was born in Giyani, completed an LLB degree at the University of Limpopo and a postgraduate program in telecommunications at Wits. With an LLB and admission to the legal profession, you are eligible to practice in any area to which you were exposed throughout your training as a candidate attorney. She then attained admission to the bar on August 5, 2013, and on February 1, 2014, she began her legal practice. She is still engaged in legal practice today.

To evoke the spirit of Youth Month, the South African State Theatre (SAST) will be hosting the 14th annual Youth Expression Festival (YEF) which is set to feature young creatives whose works make vigorous commentary on topical affairs that impact the contemporary youth. Racism, corruption, mental health, cultural heritage, and xenophobia are some of the urgent themes ensuing from the works that will be presented at the festival from 15 June to 01 July 2022.
