ABC's Alex Stone - Today Pfizer officially asked the FDA to approve their COVID-19 vaccine for children 5 to 11 years old. The process will now begin, like previous approvals, which includes non-binding panels of doctors meeting to discuss the vaccine in children. They will make recommendations to the FDA and CDC. It will likely mean younger children will be able to get vaccinated within a few weeks – possibly right around Halloween. The FDA’s panel will meet on October 26th.  Pfizer will be a two shot regimen but the amount of mRNA going into their bodies will 1/3 the dose of adults.

ABC's Andy Field - Today, after weeks of brinkmanship, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Democrats and Republicans have reached a deal to avert the U.S. defaulting on its debt for the first time through a temporary increase in the debt ceiling through early December. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell followed Schumer and confirmed a deal is close to a vote -- with the GOP leader claiming credit for saving the American people from default and the Democrats from themselves.  "The Senate is moving toward the plan I laid out last night to spare the American people a manufactured crisis," he said.

California will streamline and extend its assisted death law under a bill signed Tuesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom that reduces the time until terminal patients can choose to be given fatal drugs.

Starting January 1, the waiting period required between the time a patient makes separate oral requests for medication will drop to 48 hours, down from the current minimum 15 days. Earlier this year, New Mexico also reduced its waiting period to 48 hours.
