Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg told Yahoo News that systemic racism in the design and location of highways in American cities and suburbs continues to adversely affect low-income neighborhoods and communities of color. Responding to criticism from conservatives, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, regarding comments he made on Monday, Buttigieg said in a Tuesday interview that racism and segregation in road building are not ancient history or a figment of liberals’ imagination, as some on the right contend.

“There are many well-documented examples of this happening, from the ’20s and ’30s, ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and sometimes we have to be on the lookout for issues that are happening in our time,” he said. “But for me, the issue is not: In what year did somebody create this problem? The issue is: Is that problem affecting people today in 2021?”

Out country singer TJ Osborne kissed his boyfriend, Abi Ventura, after winning a Country Music Award, marking a first for the longstanding award show.

One half of the Brothers Osborne, the country music star came out in February and instantly became the highest-profile out performers in the genre. The two won for Vocal Duo of the Year.

“It’s been a crazy roller coaster of a year for us in so many ways, especially for me emotionally,” Osborne told the audience as he accepted the award. “And to have you all support me, it really does feel like love wins tonight. Thank you.”

His words were met with a standing ovation.

Brothers Osborne performed their song, “Younger Me” during the ceremony. Osborne wrote the song about his struggles as a young man to accept his sexuality and learn to embrace it.

California governor Gavin Newsom had an adverse reaction to getting the Covid booster and a flu shot within days of each other, leaving him with muscle weakness and fatigue, claim sources in the family's inner circle.

The governor was last seen in public on October 27, after receiving a COVID-19 booster shot in Oakland. He had gotten a flu shot on October 22.

Newsom finally appeared in a photo attending Ivy Getty's star-studded wedding this past weekend after disappearing from the public eye for nearly two weeks. 

Newsom is a long-time friend of the billionaire oil tycoon Getty family, who have financially backed his political campaigns.

Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager who fatally shot two people last year during unrest in Kenosha, Wis., offered his first extended public defense in the bitterly divisive case on Wednesday, at one point breaking down on the witness stand.

Rittenhouse’s sometimes emotional testimony punctuated the most dramatic day of the homicide trial so far, which also included heated moments from Judge Bruce Schroeder, who repeatedly castigated the prosecutor for running afoul of his rulings. The trial is in its home stretch, and the days of testimony so far have appeared to tilt in Rittenhouse’s favor.

Rittenhouse, 18, is charged with homicide and attempted homicide for shooting three people, killing two of them, during the mayhem consuming Kenosha after a police shooting in August 2020. He has pleaded not guilty.

People Magazine has named actor Paul Rudd as its Sexiest Man Alive

Rudd, known for his starring roles in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” films, “This is 40” and “Clueless,” was revealed as this year’s winner Tuesday night on CBS’ ”The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

The actor tells the magazine in an issue out Friday that some will be surprised by him receiving the honor.

“I do have an awareness, enough to know that when people hear that I’d be picked for this, they would say, ‘What?’” he said. “This is not false humility. There are so many people that should get this before me.”

But of course, Rudd won’t turn down the honor. He jokingly hopes the new title will grant him an invitation to “those sexy dinners” with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Michael B. Jordan — all recent winners.

Travis Scott has a past, but that isn’t the present. 

Travis Scott concerts are known for being raucous and rowdy. But the 2021 Astroworld Festival, where he was set to close out the first night of performances, went beyond expected levels of rowdiness when it took a deadly turn. Footage from the day of his performance showed a throng of fans shoving their way through a VIP entrance, destroying it in the process. The massive crowd that formed before his show grew to around 50,000 people. "I wanna see some ragers, man," Scott said at one point during his Astroworld set, according to Reuters. "Who wanna rage?" Scott is hardly alone in the entertainment world in the way that he energizes crowds, but his style and history have taken on new focus after the mass casualty event at his music festival in Texas.

When Daphna Cardinale became pregnant with her second daughter in January 2019, she was overjoyed. But when the girl was born that September, Daphna and her husband, Alexander, were shocked.

According to a lawsuit the Cardinales filed Monday, the fertility clinic that facilitated the in vitro pregnancy implanted another couple’s embryo into Daphna. Their own embryo, the Cardinales learned, was implanted into the mother of the child to whom Daphna gave birth.“We had no idea at the time that this greatest potential for joy would bring us such enduring pain and trauma,” Daphna said at a news conference on Monday.

The couple is suing the clinic and its owner, obstetrician Eliran Mor, for monetary damages. Their claims against Mor and his company include breach of contract, medical malpractice and infliction of emotional distress on the couple.
